We believe that God put the wiggle in children, and all are welcome in worship regardless of their ability to sit still. If you d like to step out of the sanctuary with your child, please feel free to visit the chapel (to the right of the sanctuary) where the service is streaming. Johnny and Wes are sons of Gus and Carroll Walton. First Church does not meet during the summer. Children in Kindergarten and above are encouraged to participate in the full worship service, while care for younger children is available in the nursery. Today s 11:00 a.m. service is televised over WAXN, Channel 64, and streamed live at Call to Confession Prayer of Confession Confession The Reverend Erika Funk All: We name you Christ, and in the next breath we explain what we think that means. We offer our hearts and lives on our terms. We are full of human thoughts, and we leave little room for your thoughts. In your mercy, forgive us. Correct us. Turn us around, teach us your ways, and lead us as we let go of all that we have grasped so tightly so that we may pick up the cross and follow you. One: In silent prayer, let us confess to God the things we choose not to speak aloud. Assurance of Pardon One: Friends, believe the good news. All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. *Response (Hymn No. 581) gloria patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. Sacrament of Baptism Hymn No. 188 Sacrament of Baptism John Andrew Walton Wesley Cree Walton jesus loves me Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong. They are weak but he is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so. *Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Children in kindergarten and above are encouraged to stay in worship. Younger children may go to the nursery. 5 *Hymn No. 331 God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand 1 God of the ages, whose almighty hand leads forth in beauty all the starry band of shining worlds in splendor through the skies, our grateful songs before thy throne arise. 2 Thy love divine hath led us in the past. In this free land by thee our lot is cast. Be thou our ruler, guardian, guide, and stay: thy word our law, thy paths our chosen way. 3 From war s alarms, from deadly pestilence, be thy strong arm our ever sure defense. Thy true religion in our hearts increase. Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace. 4 Refresh thy people on their toilsome way. Lead us from night to never-ending day. Fill all our lives with love and grace divine, and glory, laud, and praise be ever thine. *Hymn No. 459 O Word of God Incarnate 1 O Word of God incarnate, O Wisdom from on high, O Truth unchanged, unchanging, O Light of our dark sky: we praise you for the radiance that from the hallowed page, a lantern to our footsteps, shines on from age to age. 2 The church from you, dear Savior, received this gift divine; and still that light is lifted on all the earth to shine. It is the chart and compass that, all life s voyage through, amid the rocks and quicksands still guides, O Christ, to you. 3 O make your church, dear Savior, a lamp of purest gold to bear before the nations your true light, as of old; O teach your wandering pilgrims by this our path to trace, till, clouds and storms thus ended, we see you face to face. *Hymn No. 2 Come, Thou Almighty King 1 Come, thou almighty King, help us thy name to sing; help us to praise: Father, all glorious, o er all victorious, come, and reign over us, Ancient of Days. 2 Come, thou incarnate Word, merciful, mighty Lord, our prayer attend. Come, and thy people bless, and give thy word success; Spirit of holiness, on us descend. 3 Come, holy Comforter, thy sacred witness bear in this glad hour. Thou who almighty art, now rule in every heart, and ne er from us depart, Spirit of power. 4 To thee, great One in Three, eternal praises be, hence evermore! Thy sovereign majesty may we in glory see, and to eternity love and adore.
