1 EOA/WRA LOCAL CHURCH PROFILE FOR CHURCHES SEEKING NEW LEADERSHIP The covenantal relationship between a church and those called by that church to serve as pastors and teachers and in other ministerial positions is strengthened when vital information is openly shared by covenantal partners. To that end, we attest that, to the best of our abilities, we have provided information in this profile that accurately represents our church. We have not knowingly withheld any information that would be helpful to candidates. As the committee charged with the responsibility for identifying and recommending a suitable new minister for our church, we have been authorized to share the information herein with potential candidates We understand that a candidate may wish to secure further knowledge, information, and opinion about our church. We encourage a candidate to do so, recognizing that an open exchange of relevant information builds the foundation for continuing and healthy relationships between calling bodies and persons seeking a ministry position. 2 Position to be filled: Pastor (Three-quarter time) The Church We are a community church with a one hundred years history of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. This allows the church to serve this community in his love. Our vision is to become a Beacon of light in the Shaker Heights neighborhood where all ages, races or genders can grow in faith and receive spiritual support and guidance. Curriculums with teaching programs will lead people into a deeper spiritual experience. Our mission we must embrace the commitment to bring believers to spiritual maturity through: Fellowship with other Christians Learning and living Christ s teaching Outreach and service to the community Worshipping him and him alone Service in his name We live out our Vision and Mission through the following spiritual formation, education, missions and outreach opportunities: We plan to live out our vision and mission by growing from the inside out and continuing to teach the gospel and encourage independent study that will lead to spiritual growth and strengthen our current educational ministries (Bible Study, Adult and youth Sunday School, Vacation Bible study and a weekly prayer service). We plan to begin training sessions for people who wish to hold office or want to know more about the responsibilities of the leaders of the church. We welcome new members and encourage them to become active in the life of the church. Those who join us who are seasoned Christians, we strive to get them involved immediately. For new Christians, we will walk with them as they begin their journey into living for Christ and assist them to discover their gifts and find ways that they too can become involved in the congregation. The church has been active in supporting our outreach ministry to the community through our work with Family Promise and the monthly meal program. We are exploring new ministries that will include age specific ministries that hopefully will attract younger people, beginning with health informational workshop, developing a comprehensive ministry to persons with disabilities and conduct internet/social media classes for seniors and other activities that will meet the needs of the community. We hope to strengthen our social media presence. This initiative will be led by our youth and young adults.

3 What is God calling your church to do/become over the next few years? We are a church called by God to spread the gospel according to His purpose. We want to be a living example that shines the light of the gospel in the community and beyond. Our church is being called to build Christ s church from the inside out. A healthy church is a growing church. We will seek a leader who will bring innovative approaches to increase weekly attendance and expand membership. One who can reach young families, children and youth. The pastor, along with the church leadership will mobilize, train and oversee the involvement of a large percentage of the congregation in such ministries. As a congregation we are called to be fiscally responsible and to continually improve our financial management systems and processes. Describe how the church expects the person you are seeking to help your church reach these goals: Spreading the gospel through the church and to the community will be accomplished by preaching and teaching the doctrine of salvation to the masses. Visits within the community enables the congregation and the pastor to become an active part of the community providing for the needs of the constituency; meeting aspects of care in physical, emotional and doctrinal provisions. Expanding membership is met by exposing the qualities provided by the church that meets the individual and family needs through training and opportunities for growth and development.

4 Our Statement on Ministry Write a statement that will help a candidate better understand the relationship of clergy and lay leadership in the life of your congregation. East View United Church of Christ has a history of collaborative and supportive relationships between the Pastor and lay leadership. The leadership looks to the Senior Pastor for direction and open communication is encouraged among clergy and congregates. Church members openly express their opinions as well as requests for programs and events. Ministries such as the adult choir, Christian education and lunch program plan their yearly and monthly programs and events and clergy are expected to support and attend. Our congregation possesses a mutual respect for the leadership and their abilities to function efficiently and effectively as the Pastor. The Pastor is ex-officio on all committees and is to be consulted before any programs are placed on the calendar and prior to any people being invited to the church or recommended for office. This expectation is stated and written into the churches by-laws policy and we are continuing to work on efforts that ensure everyone is adhering to this expectation. Recognizing that communication is the key to a successful ministry, the church is accustomed to an open door policy. There is a hope and expectation that the lay leaders and congregation will be able to discuss current and potential new ministries with the Senior Pastor. Realizing that the new pastor will be a three quarter time employee, the Associate Pastor and ministerial team will continue to assist throughout the transitional phase. The ministerial team recognizes the value of teamwork and building upon the skill set of each clergy member while focusing on the common collective goal to guide church members by faithfully teaching the word of God. The church is eager to experience the energy of a new Pastor. The church is primed and ready to strengthen current ministries while also venturing into new endeavors. A new Pastor will come with fresh eyes and new innovative ideas. The current leadership and congregation are open to the will of God and building up the House of God called East View UCC.

7 Article XII Officers Section 2: Pastor The Pastor A. The person considered to pastor the church shall be duly ordained Minister of the United Church of Christ, partner denominations B. Method of Call: The congregation shall call a Minister for the church as the need arises. A search committee, elected by the congregation, will be empowered to review profiles and recommend to the congregation a person to be considered as the pastor. The pastor shall be chosen by a two-thirds vote of the member s present at a meeting specifically called for this purpose. Approval of the pastor also approves the Call Agreement which was determined by the Trustees recommended by the Church Council and voted on by the congregation. C. Termination Clause: (A) The Pastor must provide a 90 day notice if they plan to resign as senior pastor (B) The church can terminate a Pastors service by a two-thirds vote of the congregation. D. Duties of the Pastor (a) It shall be the duty of the Pastor to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to coordinate worship services, to administer the sacraments and to promote the welfare of the church. (b) The Pastor shall oversee the activities of the church in cooperation with the Boards and Committees. (c) The Pastor shall visit the sick and shut in or empower a committee who holds their responsibility. (d) The Pastor shall appoint ad-hoc committees as needed. (e) The Pastor shall be an Ex-Officio member of all Boards and Committees with the authority to call meetings when deemed necessary. (f) The Pastor has authority to hire and discipline and discharge church employees, but must report all such actions promptly to the Moderator. The Pastor shall report all personnel actions to the Church Council at its next meeting.
