~ Message ~ MISSION STATEMENT We, the Seventh-day Adventist Church exist to preach the gospel to prepare the people in Peninsular Malaysia for Jesus Christ s second coming, by ministering to their physical, mental, social and spiritual needs through in-reach and outreach programmes of the Church. VISION STATEMENT To prepare our members for Jesus soon return and with united spirit evangelize the whole of Peninsular Malaysia. Many years ago, I attended a dialogue session between the district police officer with the community where I stayed. The police officer urged the residents to install lights outside the house and turn it on at night, particularly at the back lanes. Studies shown that thieves or burglars chose to stay away from the houses with lights on outside. Darkness symbolizes sin. Darkness cannot coexist with light unless the light is off. The Bible prophesizes that sins are prevalent at end times. The situation of the society is getting from bad to worse. The leaders of the country are calling people to help in fighting the arising crimes. What part can a Bible-based Christian play in this campaign? Are we called to do this? Yes! Jesus told us to be the salt and light of the world and take up this responsibility. The work of the people of God in the world is to restrain evil, to elevate, to purify, and to ennoble mankind. The principles of kindness and love and benevolence are to uproot every fiber of the selfishness that has permeated all society and corrupted the church If men and women will open their hearts to the heavenly influence of truth and love, these principles will flow forth again, like streams in the desert, refreshing all, and causing freshness to appear where now are barrenness and dearth. The influence of those who keep the way of the Lord will be as far-reaching as eternity. They will carry with them the cheerfulness of heavenly peace as an abiding, refreshing, enlightening power. -- RH 1899 Aug 22. When we treasure God s word in our hearts and choose to live by every word that comes from the mouth of God, our lives would be transformed by His grace and we would be more and more like Jesus. Christians fight crimes not by demonstration, talks or writing, but by living a Christ-likeness life, as a salt and light to the world. May we all choose this day to live a pure and noble life; continue to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God daily. In so doing, we are living a heavenly life in this sinful world. Vision 2 Carry each other s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2, NIV.

~ Good News from PEM Churches ~ KLANG ADVENTIST COMMUNITY OFFICIAL OPENING SHARED BY MRS JANE YAP: On Apr 4 at Taman Chi Liung, Klang, the heat did not dissuade the crowd from congregating during the opening of the Klang Adventist Community Health Centre or KACC for short. The centre, formed in collaboration with Malaysia Health Promotion Board (LPKM) is dedicated for the common people within Klang vicinity. This centre is for you, people around this community; we are passionate about helping Malaysians live a healthier lifestyle, I said during my speech. Pr Leong Fai (in coat), PEM s president did the honour of cutting the ribbon assisted by Ms Florence Devany, the newly appointed leader of the Klang Health Centre. SHOWCASE OF ADVENTIST LIFESTYLE SHARED BY MRS JANE YAP: For two days, the lifestyle of the Seventhday Adventists in Kuala Lumpur was displayed during the Health Show at the Exhibition Hall of Mid Valley Mega Mall, one of the largest shopping mall in Malaysia on Apr 30 and May 2 respectively. Comprising of 20 volunteers, they catered to almost 350 people who experienced first-hand the lifestyle and longevity appraisal tests, seen by health counsellors and witnessed live demonstrations on healthy cooking, hydrotherapy, massage, live food exhibits, CHAROBIX demonstration, and the effects of smoking and driving under the influence of alcohol. There was also a display of health and religious books as well as children s corner; not forgetting the distribution of health tracts as well as the Adventist Review magazine to those who attended. The guest-of-honour, YB Manoharan, who came in late due to a prior appointment, extended his appreciation to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in making the effort to champion the health of the people. He added that we need more centres, especially in supporting the government with its No Smoking programme, among other programmes. The KACC project, in collaboration with LPKM, entitled Prevention Against Hypertension through Lifestyle Changes was the key programme` of the centre; this included BP Screening, Health Lectures, Health Counselling, Exercise programme, Massage, Cooking Classes offered free of charge for the public. Most of the people who came expressed their willingness to visit our 3 satellite churches-turnedcommunity health centres in order to attend their regular health activities such as cooking demonstration, health camp, health lectures, etc.; many of them enrolled the Pathway to Health courses and some people enrolled to our Breathe Free classes which will start in July of this year. Pr Tan Meng Cheng, the church pastor of Petaling Jaya Chinese Church who co-hosted the event, was convinced that the experience was the best way to draw people to our church. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8, NIV. Vision 3

~ Good News from PEM Churches ~ ZOMI MYANMAR REFUGEE DINNER SHARED BY CORINA LING (SEATED IN FRONT, LEFT): Wow! So much food! said one of the volunteers with delight as they were serving out the food during the Myanmar Refugee Dinner Outreach on Feb 28 at the ZOMI Tribe Myanmar Refugee Centre in downtown KL. This dinner, organized by the Philanthropic Ministry of the PEM was held in conjunction with the Myanmar Refugee Dental Outreach, a Health Ministry Project. CHILD DEDICATION SHARED BY MR PETER GOVINDASAMY OF USJ ENGLISH CHURCH: On Apr 24, we had a rare opportunity to witness the dedication of 10 children to the Lord! Acknowledging the need of God's help in the up-bringing of their children, eight parents came into the presence of God to dedicate their children to Him. The service was conducted by Pr Petrik Andrews, the Family Ministries Director of PEM. We thank God for His blessings upon the USJ English Church. "Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is His reward". Psalms 127:3. The food was generously prepared by Seventh-day Adventist members namely Angeline Yeoh, Goh Cheng Siew, Gooi Hui Min, Jean Goh, Judy Reid, Kinora Sia and Tan Cheng Chee. Jean Goh also roped in her friends who were enthusiastic in helping to prepare the food namely Jane Lee, Lily Goh, Magdeleine Chong, Stephanie Loo and Teresa. May the good Lord richly bless them for their kind generosity! Our Myanmar brothers and sisters are indeed grateful for the musical programme as well as the variety of food. They have suggested that a similar event be held in the afternoon so that more people can attend as most of them depended on public transport. Before the long awaited dinner, our Myanmar friends were given a Spiritual Treat via a cantata of songs, violin instrumental and testimonies prepared by a 13-member group from the Kuala Lumpur English Church namely Calista Chui, Eden Langora, Gemma Bayona, Johnny Lusin, Joy, Marilyn, Mercy Pacita, Norma, Rawive, Shirelyn, Victoria and Wung Zhen Yew. Praise God for His blessings. PATHFINDER CLUB SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: On Mar 15 (Mon), about 20 Pathfinders from the Johor Bahru Pathfiinder Club, organized a trip to JARO in Johor Bahru. It is an association where the handicapped people were given some kind of employment. We saw some of them doing book binding, others doing sewing, still others making baskets and other furniture using rattan. The trip ended with light refreshments brought by some mothers whose children are in the Pathfinder Club. Vision 4 Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge. Proverbs 23:12, NIV.

MY EXPERIENCE IN THE NUTRITION AND HEALTH COURSE SHARED BY MS ROSALIND CHAN OF PUCHONG CHINESE CHURCH: Back at my workplace, a few of my colleagues were trying out different ways to lose weight. Some subsist on eating food supplements or herbal drinks, others just on papaya and papaya alone. One of them even shared with me a technique that in order not to overeat at mealtimes, drink lots of water just before your meal so that you would not feel so hungry; so I thought to myself I am sure there is a better way to live healthily and maintain an optimum ~ Testimony ~ break down the barriers and enable you to reach their hearts. Consider this matter earnestly. Testimonies Vol 9, pg 127. I was so happy when the Adventist Community Health Centre (ACC) announced that they were going to launch the first class in Nutrition Certificate. All at once, I made up my mind and sign up for it as I thought that we should always aim to improve ourselves physically, intellectually and spiritually. The course requires minimal attendance of classroom sessions and healthy food of my coursemates was really fun and enjoyable. Of course, with the Final exam drawing near and the final assignment in preparing a presentation on any of the 8 principles of Healthy Living, tensions were high, but it was a sure sign that the final lap was almost over. The course itself has helped me in many ways, for example, reading food labels so that we can make a wise decision what kind of food we put into our mouths. Now, my all time favourite Twisties ( junk food ) is out of the window, not by force but under the conviction heralded by apostle Paul - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a LIVING SACRIFICE, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. Romans 12:1. Ms Rosalind Chan (left) with her course-mates and tutors enjoying their own creations. weight. I was also reading Christian Service on Medical Missionary Work and it said: In His service, healing and teaching are linked closely together. Today they are not to be separated. Testimonies Vol 9, pp To be an effective witness, we ought to learn from our Master. Relieve the physical necessities of your fellowmen, and their gratitude will and much of it was at our own pace in studying the materials provided. The tutors were very helpful and they were able to help me understand the studying materials whenever I have difficulty. One of the sessions I enjoyed the most was the Practical Exam where we had to cook for our fellow students. Just to see their creativity and tasting the delicious I would like to encourage you, dear reader of Vision, if you are convicted to be a medical missionary worker, take the first step and enroll yourself in the courses that ACC is conducting. I am sure it would prove to be a blessing to you, your family and those around you. May God bless you! The next intake for Introduction of Health and Nutrition Course is in July Register now! Please contact Ms Corina Ling at or corina.ling@adventist.org.my or visit for more information! Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3, NIV. Vision 5

~ Good news from PEM Churches ~ IPOH ENGLISH CHURCH MUSICAL WORSHIP SHARED BY PR TAN WEOI SIONG (MIDDLE ROW 4 TH FROM LEFT): On Apr 10, the Ipoh English Church was privileged to have the Bangkok Adventist Hospital (BAH) Chamber Singers to sing during the Divine Worship. The singing group consisted of 10 singers and a pianist. They were led by Mr Julbert M. It was the first musical worship in the Ipoh English Church after many years. About 100 people, from both English and Chinese Churches, attended the worship. Some of the musical pieces presented by the group were composed by the Heritage Singers and other famous Christian song writers. Besides singing, there was also a delightful children story that was concluded with a children s song. A love offering was collected to support and encourage the Chamber Singers. I want to thank God for His guidance that many were blessed during this worship. I pray that the BAH Chamber Singers will be able to come to Ipoh again in Dec REVIVAL MEETING SHARED BY PR ABEL BANA: The members of the Johor Bahru Bahasa Churches gathered together in one accord for a Revival Meeting on May 1. It was a day of meaningful worship and many renewed their faith in the Lord. We were also blessed by the presentation of songs and testimonies by the Harmon Ministry Singing group and AIMS. Pr Bayu Kaumpungan gave a sermon on the prayer of Jesus base on John 17. Pr Terrance Sim, PEM Executive Secretary, was also with us during the Revival Meeting. Vision 6 An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips. Proverbs 24:26, NIV.

~Good News from PEM Churches ~ IPOH PRECIOUS GIFT HOME VISITATION SHARED BY PR TAN WEOI SIONG (BOTTOM RIGHT): On Apr 16, my wife and I, together with about 30 students from Masterskill College of Nursing and Health Sciences, visited Precious Gift Home, an orphanage for boys located at Lim Garden, Ipoh. The orphanage was founded by Mr & Mrs Morris, an Indian couple who have given themselves to God s ministry. They are taking care of 28 boys in the Home. We arrived at the Home at about 2 pm. The boys were excited when they saw us. They were already waiting for us at the gate! The students started with singing, followed by chicken dance. We then all went to the lawn to play games. One of the games required the boys to search for the rubber band by blowing away flour without using their hands. At the end of the game, the students and the boys were chasing and smudging each other s face with the flour! Prizes were given to three winners of each game. We also gave out goodies bags to every boy. Instead of shaking hands, we high-fived each other before I handed the bags to the boys. We had a prayer before the high tea which marked the end of the visitation that day. We thank Mr Freddie, the supervisor of Masterskill College Cafeteria for sponsoring all the prizes, goodies bags, food and drinks. We had a wonderful time with the boys. It is amazing that the little things we had done could actually make others so happy. According to Mrs Morris, the Home will be moved to a new location, which is nearby, in July. It is not easy to manage an orphanage. Let us pray for Mr and Mrs Morris so that they will have the guidance from God. Don t forget to pray for the boys, who are either orphans or come from broken homes. I want to thank God for people like Mr and Mrs Morris; they are doing what the Bible has commanded us to do to help the orphans. May all of us be more like Jesus! FRIENDSHIP EVANGELISM SHARED BY MRS MEENA CHANDRAN (LEFT PICTURE): During Mar 15-17, the Sentosa Group held a Vacation Bible School. One of the programme was to visit Mr Arumugam, a retired teacher. Mr Arumugam s leg was amputated due to diabetes; thus, he was always depressed and moody. When the children sang to him, he immediately brightened up and told the children that now he knew why Jesus is always pictured with a lamp in His arms. Before the children left, they presented the Last Days Events DVD to Mr Arumugam. Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour, who daily bears our burdens. Psalm 68:19, NIV. Vision 7

~ Good News from PEM Churches ~ not to keep the box for too long, so she drove all the way from Woodlands to Johore Bahru (JB) for Malaysia postal service. When she reached the JB custom, she saw some officers busy checking everyone s baggages very strictly and thoroughly. Instantly, she started worrying but PRAYING in her heart, Lord, whatever contained in this box is not mine, but Yours. It is the contribution of Mrs Alice Chan for The Light House Church in Penang. Lord, please let not the officers open this box but allow me to carry it through. Praise the Living Lord, God answered her PRAYER by blinding the eye of those officers. When it was her turn, she just passed through without being held back by any officers for a thorough check. She felt relief and thank Lord Jesus who has been keeping her by His side. Mrs Alice Chan and Dr Chew Yu Gee with the stainless steel classical tray at The Light House Church, Penang. THE LIGHT HOUSE CHURCH, PENANG, CONTENT BY MRS ALICE CHAN, AUTHORED BY MS ANNE TAN: The Light House located in Batu Ferringhi, Penang, is a newly developed church where its fundamental needs are yet to fulfill since Jan The founder, Dr Chew Yu Gee, has been generously supporting The Light House. She then managed to send the box at a post office in JB and reached my house in Penang a week later. I was glad that God delivered this classical tray by His own hands. It was not easy to get it in the first place, yet it had been travelling safely from Singapore to JB, from JB to The Light House Church Penang. Glory to be the Lord Jesus!!! In Matthew 19:26 NKJV, with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. AMEN! Note: We thank Mdm Stella Hong for contributing the cover for the stainless steel classical tray which cost S$ I know that God has been blessing me well, thus I wanted to contribute something to The Light House as a token of LOVE to God. After prayers, I decided to sponsor a set of classical tray for the Holy Communion service at The Light House. However, none was found at any Christian stores in Penang. One week later, I was invited to attend a relative s wedding in Singapore, I called up Pr Simon Siew for help. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Pr Siew led me to a Christian shop called Teck Meng where all Christians accessories are available. I thank God for answering my prayer when I managed to get a set of stainless steel classical tray that cost S$ for The Light House. I then packed it carefully and placed it together with some of my personal belongings in a medium-sized box. However, when I was at the boarding counter at the Changi Airport, the ground steward told me the 8kg excess of my luggage needed an additional payment of S$ I was hesitate about the additional charges, and subsequently asked a Singaporean lady friend to help me keep the box containing the classical tray. However, she decided EVANGELISTIC MEETING SHARED BY MS JASMINE: From Mar 14-19, Pr T John conducted a series of Evangelistic Meetings in Taman Malar, Bercham. About 40 people attended this meeting. Before each talk, a health talk would be presented. Free Blood Pressure and Glucose tests were also given to the attendees before the meeting started. 3 souls were baptized on Mar 20, following the Evangelistic Meetings. Vision 8 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5, NIV.

~ Good News from PEM Churches ~ SPIRIT OF PROPHECY (SOP) SEMINAR AT KLEBANG CHURCH BY PR JACOB JOHN: I was able to attend the SOP seminar at Klebang Church on Mar 5-6. It was an awesome and eye opening experience for all of us. Knowing our history; who we are and what our mission is, are important to each and every Seventh-day Adventist church member, especially the knowledge of how God led His people and gave vision to our pioneers. His leading hand was not only with the Israelites in the Bible but also for us, modern day Israelites of this century. The principles are the same, what happens to the people who accept or ignore God s call and what happens to the society when they fulfill His mission or when they refuse. Pr Dennis Ng, PEM SOP Director, put his message in a very systematic and simple form so that everyone can understand and see the bigger picture. He said that as Seventh-day Adventists, we believe in the Bible and the Bible alone. Ellen G White s writings help us to project God s words onto a bigger scale, so that we can understand it much better. Her writings also help us to get to know God much better. In closing, he shared that, If a person is coming out from a pitch black dark room, he would be unable to see light. He has to open His eyes little by little before being able to face the bright light. So it was with our Seventh-day Adventist history. God s ways are mysterious and very systematic. His love, His care and His leading hand guiding His children do not change. I really encourage every church, company, branch or new work to conduct SOP meetings in their respective districts frequently. Not only will it encourage each one of us, but it will also constantly remind us of who we are and what our mission is on this earth. Praise God for the SOP message. 10 ~ Kulim Adventist Education Centre shared by Pr Lee Yow Han ~ KULIM ADVENTIST EDUCATION CENTRE - A WAY TO IMPACT AND INSPIRE SOCIETY: Kulim Adventist Education Centre was founded in Dec 2009, and we started our service by providing free education programmes in April The founder of this centre is Pr Lee Yow Han. Pr Lee received a personal revelation on engaging the society fully. He strongly believes the Cultural Mandate teaching, which is to bring Christ to each culture in society. "Our Christian task is not only to build the church but also to build a society that glorifies God!" --- Pr Lee. To live out the principles of what he preaches, he personally led Kulim Adventist Church members and started Kulim Adventist Education Centre, which is a way to reach out, impact and inspire the society. Education is a very important moral and cultural sharper in society. The aim of our education centre is to develop our students to impact and inspire the society with excellence, ingenuity, integrity and service. We strive to provide our student with a learning environment that supports all-round development. This is also one of the best platforms for them to know Jesus Christ and accept Him as their personal saviour. Recently we are providing free UPSR tuition--bm, English, Mathematics, Chinese and PMR BM tuition for the students. At the same time, we are also providing free guitar lessons as it is very creative and fun. We are the first centre in our region using multimedia systems to teach the students, and after every lesson, the students will have the opportunity to play guitar together with a full musical band. This year, we have also planned many church programmes that will attract the students to come to church. Now, we have around 80 students all together enrolling in our free education programmes. Starting from next year, we will launch more education programmes such as Health, Forever Learning (for the elderly), Leadership Training, PC Repair and Maintenance; and more musical instruments classes. We hope to bring more people to God through the activities carried out in this centre. However, we need to renovate the existing infrastructure to properly run the education centre. About RM30, is needed for this purpose. Thus, we are seeking the aid from various individuals and organizations for financial assistance. If anyone wishes to contribute to our centre, please make your cheque payable to SDA CORP (M) BHD- Kulim. Or through direct bank transfer to SDA CORP (M) BHD-Kulim (Public Bank A/C No: For more information, please contact Pr Lee at Vision 10 Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding.
