2 Dear BCS Family: Whether you are privileged to be a parent of students at BCS or a teacher, the administration and School Board cordially welcome you to the Parent-Teacher- Fellowship (PTF). The support you bring to the body is invaluable and irreplaceable. We are blessed to have each of you in this ministry. Every parent and every teacher is considered a member of PTF. I hope you will consider before the Lord how you might actively participate in this part of our ministry during the school year. This handbook outlines the goals, mission and vision of the Bradshaw Christian School PTF. A steering committee consisting of Parents, Teachers and Administrators worked together to develop a good foundation that we feel represents well the needs of the families at BCS. We realize that parents have different needs and will choose to be involved for different reasons. Some may attend the monthly meetings for the purpose of staying informed, some may desire to join a committee for the purpose of seeing some goals accomplished that are meaningful to them, and some may want to contribute ideas and have input on the direction of our school. Many will find it a blessing to join PTF meetings and events for the great opportunity to meet other families in the school all reasons are important and welcomed! 4 Mission Guiding Principle If you have any encouragement from being united in Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. ~Philippians 2:1,2 Mission Statement The Bradshaw Christian School Parent Teacher Fellowship mission is a united effort to grow and strengthen the BCS community through: Fellowship The primary goal of the PTF is to create an inclusive atmosphere of fellowship between parents, teachers and administrators to strengthen and grow the entire school community. Encouragement PTF will facilitate the ability of parents, teachers and administrators to encourage each group in their unique roles for our common goals. Communication PTF will help establish consistent, visible channels of input and the free flow of information through a variety of mediums. Collaborative Support PTF will join parents, teachers and administrators to identify needs to serve the family, the classroom and the school community. 4

5 LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE LEADERSHIP COUNCIL The elected Leadership Council is the governing body of the Bradshaw Christian School Parent Teacher Fellowship. This council is responsible for PTF oversight and decision-making. The Council Members will consider the needs of all of the parents and teachers at BCS grades Preschool- High School as they make their decisions. The Council members are considered a Group of All Leaders who share the responsibility for oversight and should consist of the following members: 1 Preschool, 1 Elementary, 1 Middle School, and 1 High School parent 1 Preschool, 1 Elementary, 1 Middle School, and 1 High School teacher 4 additional parents from any area Preschool-High school. The Council will be responsible for dividing up duties according to desire, skill set, and need, which will vary from year to year. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Chairperson, Vice- Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Fundraising Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, Family & Student Support Coordinator, and Teacher Support Coordinator. TREASURER: One Council member will be designated by the Leadership Council to be in charge of monies. The Treasurer may be asked to have additional interviews with the school board, and may be required to have a back-ground check. The person in this position is expected to have some experience and skills that make him/her a good candidate for this position. Though the money will run through the business office, the Treasurer will be designated as responsible for working with the business office regarding deposits and withdrawals. The Council will submit its recommendation for this position to the School Board each year. 5

6 Standards that must be met to run for Leadership Council A candidate must be a parent of a currently enrolled student(s) for at least one school year before running for Council. A Candidate s children must be enrolled for the upcoming school year upon which he/she is seeking election. A teacher who runs must be on staff for one full year prior to running for a position. He/she does not have to have children enrolled. Have a desire to serve the community of BCS, and feel called of the Lord to serve on the Council. Agree with, and sign, the Statement of Faith and Christian Code of Conduct Statement Be in agreement with the overall mission, vision and ministry of BCS. Be available to meet attend all PTF meetings and all Leadership Council meetings during his/her period of service. Application Process Those desiring to hold a role on the Leadership Council should submit the Candidate Packet to the School Board during the application acceptance period (April 15th -April 30 th annually) Packets may be handed in to any BCS School Office. Included in the packet are the following: Application Statement of Faith (which must be signed and dated) The Christian Code of Conduct (which must be signed and dated) Current photo (may be individual or family) Biography Once the School Board determines that the candidate meets the high standards set for all leaders at BCS, he/she will be notified of his/her eligibility to run for a Leadership position. 6

7 Voting An election, by secret ballot, for Leadership Council will be held between May 1 st -May 15 th annually. All parents and teachers will be encouraged to vote for Council members. Term The newly-elected Council will be announced during the first week of June each year. The presiding Leadership Council will end its term on June 15 th and the newly-elected Leadership Council will begin its term on June 16 th annually. There are currently no limitations on how long a parent or teacher may serve on the council. Accountability The Leadership Council is directly accountable to the BCS School Board. The School Board can dismiss a Council Member from his/her duties if he/she doesn t meet BCS s high expectations for leadership during his/her tenure. 7

8 Leadership Council Responsibilities and Duties Council members are responsible for PTF oversight, functioning, and decision-making for one school year. The Council Members are responsible to communicate with the School Board and administration and receive approval where needed to move forward with certain decisions. The Committee Coordinators are responsible for oversight of their particular committee. The Council is entrusted by the School Board and administration with the duty to do their best to act on behalf of the entire BCS parent/teacher community, being cognizant of personal biases as they make decisions. As a leader their professional and personal life should reflect that of a believer and follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ as outlined in the Holy Bible. MEETINGS The Leadership Council is responsible for determining each year when the meetings will be held with the following considerations in mind: What is most convenient for parents and teachers. At least three general parent meetings in the school year. Committees can meet as often as necessary. The Leadership Council will decide on the structure of the meetings from year to year, but must include the School Board and administration in this decision before the first meeting each year. 8

9 COMMITTEES Committee duties to include but are not limited to the following - Family & Student Support Committee New Family Welcoming Support for families with Special Needs Children Prayer for BCS families Supporting families with extreme hardship emotionally, spiritually and practically Mentor parents Carpool Tutoring resources Special Assemblies/Chapel support Campus Safety Teacher Support Committee Teacher Appreciation Supporting teachers in practical day to day ways Fundraising Committee Fundraising toward approved goals Communication Committee Improving the communication from school to home Coordinating school-wide communication between campuses regarding, events, awards, needs etc.. 9

10 Bradshaw Christian School Statement of Faith: We believe that there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that man, made in the image of God, is a fallen creature by virtue of his rebellion against his Creator and thus deserves eternal judgment from a righteous God. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, uniting in the single person of the Son two distinct and complete natures: divine and human. He lived as the perfect man to fulfill God s plan for all humanity. The sacrificial death of Christ paid the full penalty of man s sin and provided salvation for all believers. Christ s bodily resurrection from the grave, showing His triumph over sin and death, offers the promise of resurrection and eternal life to all who have faith in Him. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith. Justification before God, which gives us freedom from punishment and gives life with God, is available only as a gift from God through faith in Jesus Christ. At the time of conversion the Holy Spirit baptizes every believer into the body of Christ and enables him to: Grow in maturity and conformity to the image of Christ, Grow in love for God and for fellow man, Bear witness to the saving power of Christ in a lost world. We believe that the Bible is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness (2 Tim 3:16). We believe that Jesus Christ is the ultimate fulfillment of all scripture and that all scripture points to Christ who is the living word. We believe that the authority of Scripture depends not on the truth or understandings of humankind, but on God himself, who is truth, and thus the scripture must be received as the word of God. We believe that it is only by the Spirit of God that anyone can interpret the scriptures with power and humility, efficacy and insight. Signature Date 10

11 Christian Code of Conduct In addition to signing and adhering to Bradshaw Christian School s Statement of Faith, to hold a leadership position, whether paid or unpaid, you must agree with the following Spiritual Qualifications as outlined in the Bible, which is our authority for Christian living: 2 Timothy 3:15-17 Romans 10:9-10; John 4:42; 1 Timothy 4:10; 1 John 4:14; Luke 2:11 You have accepted and decided to follow Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. I Timothy 4:12; Romans 12 You demonstrate an outward evidence of an inward Christian character. I Timothy 3:1-13; James 3:18; Matthew 5:9; 2 Timothy 2:22; Titus 3:2; Hebrews 12:14; Romans 12; 1 Peter 2: 11-17; 1 Peter 2:1 You are well-respected in the BCS community and you will strive to continually seek peace and unity in your relationships. You will strive to be an example of Christian living and will conduct yourself according to Biblical standards when on and off campus. You demonstrate spiritual maturity and good judgment in your own personal life. You have a heart to serve, love and care for, the body of Christ here at Bradshaw Christian School. Romans 13:13; 1Corinthians 7:2; Ephesians 5:3; Jude 1:7; Matthew 19:19; 1 Timothy 1:10; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 2:1 As an overseer you agree to behave decently in public and in private not engaging in drunkenness, avoiding dissension and jealousy. As a husband/wife you are, and will continue to be, faithful to your spouse and uphold your marriage vows. You will remain sexually pure as commanded in the Bible refraining from engaging in adultery, fornication, pornography, or homosexuality. As a leader your professional and personal life should reflect that of a believer and follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ as outlined in the Holy Bible and as empowered by the Spirit. Patterns of behavior viewed as immoral or antagonistic, as BCS interprets Scripture, may be cause for a loss of your leadership position. Signature Date 11
