2 ssa MISSION STATEMENT We, the Seventh-day Adventist Church exist to preach the gospel to prepare the people in Peninsular Malaysia for Jesus ministering to their physical, mental, social and spiritual needs through in-reach and outreach programmes of the Church. VISION STATEMENT soon return and with united spirit evangelize the whole of Peninsular Malaysia. However, with this statement, the following questions may arise, (1) Is there a need? (2) Is it realistic? (3) Can we sustain it financially? (4) How do we find the workers? Many years ago, Ellen G White wrote in a particular case in Oakland. men should be set to work in Oakland. Men and women of experience should be brought in as educators, and workers should be trained, that the work may be carried forward in strong, even lines. Let no one seek to discourage a fellow worker. There should be ten in the field where now there (8 Manuscript Releases pp. 353). In Peninsular Malaysia, there are more than 16 of the 23 million population who are living in more than 40 cities and towns spread over the land. All these towns host at least 100,000 people or above each. Of these 40 large towns and cities, we manage to have our establishment in 26 of them. Even in these 26 towns, only a small fraction of the population has been told about the soon coming of our Lord Jesus. Most of us, including myself, believe that it is very difficult to reach out to the urban dwellers. My belief starts shaking as I read the book A Call to Medical Evangelism and Health Education by Ellen G White. I used to talk about health ministry casually, but now I see the light in it more clearly. Ellen G White wrote that medical missionary is the pioneer of the gospel. like the right hand opens the door for the body to go in; medical evangelism opens the hearts for the gospel to enter. As the medical missionaries work with sympathy and tenderness toward the sick, hearts are softened and prejudice being overcome. Ellen G have its representatives in every place in connection with the establishment can come for treatment for both physical as well as spiritual. Following the example of Jesus Christ, all ministers and bible workers should prepare themselves for this line of work. member of the church should take hold of the medical missionary wor because the world has become and spiritual diseases We have little success in our gospel advancement because we have not put gospel is the power of God unto salvation, when it is interwoven with the this work in a determined manner, Satan will multiply difficulties which will not be easy intense activity in giving the warning message to the people in these congested centers of population while we still have an opportunity. The most favourable time for the presentation of our message in the cities has passed by. Sin and wickedness are rapidly increasing; and now we shall have to redeem the time by labouring a Medical Ministry, pp Vision

TESTIMONY SHARED BY MRS LEONG FAI: From Jun 26-28, I was invited to preach on the Sabbath, and also to share my experience on the nistries to a group of Seventh-day Adventist Church members in Shanghai. I found that this group of 60-church members was very nice, attentive and eager to learn the words from the Bible. I used the Bible Studies materials prepared by the W shared with them:-- 1. in Malaysia. 2. Bible games. (I was surprised to see that even children who are 7 years old were able to answer the questions). 3. Bible characters. Joshua, Moses, Achsah, Hannah, Deborah, Naomi, Rhoda, and lessons we learned from the Bible such as in Psalms 22, 2 John and Proverbs 31: Health pyramid. 5. First aid. Topics on wounds and choking. 6. Responsibilities of a woman in the family. I was happy to hear testimony during the last session. He said before he accepted Jesus, he smoked, drank, and gambled. He never did any housework for the family. He never liked Christians. He did not have peace in his heart. But his mother always prayed for him. At one time, he met with a road accident and he started to think about his life. He then Since that time, he changed completely. He stopped all the bad habits. His former friends are no more in contact. He naturally does the housework. He loves his family and has a healthy body and a peaceful life. Conclusions: I thank God for all the happiness we gained as we gathered together to read the Bible. God loves us all. There is no difference where we live, we We need to love and care for each other and the people in the communities. Possessing a good character is one of the greatest witnesses for Jesus Christ. 6 ~ Good news from PEM Churches ~ PEARL PATHFINDER CAMP IN JUNE AT THE LIGHTHOUSE SHARED BY MRS MELODY CHEW, MASTER GUIDE: Wow, it was such a fantastic camp! All a camp should be because it were tents pitched by the sea, campfire and many new young people whom we want to share Christ with and lots of great Pathfindering activities. It was indeed friendship evangelism and it promoted the attractiveness of Christian ideals and being a giant leader for the Lord! The 3 days with 60 young people, a quarter of them new was so complete with all its array of activities, so exhausting enough to burn up our youthful dynamo of energy, so educational in all its skill classes and so enriching spiritually and socially too. Why not when we have spiritual leaders to share GIANT LEADERS in the Bible in our twice daily devotions?, we built bonds of fellowship and family when we slept under the same tents of thousand stars hotel, ate under the same roof and did team building activities that were extremely creative and fun, bathe under the same open shower and even had a dragon boat race by our amateur but able bodied youth! The campfire, well attended by parents and visitors, left a long lasting impression on them. It augurs well for the Pathfinder Ministry and church as well! REVIVAL MEETINGS SHARED BY MS SHANTHI JOHNATHAN (LEFT PICTURE): The Klang Indian Church organized the Revival Meetings from Apr The guest speakers from India were Mr Basil and Dr Philip Jagathesan. Those who attended the meetings were really blessed by the Lord. The Holy Spirit touched the hearts of the believers through the last day message and most of the believers removed their jewellery and some turned into vegetarians. May the Lord continue to guide us as we spread the Good News. Vision An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips. Proverbs 24:2, NIV.

There, we spent almost two hours looking at all the exhibits. There were more than 10,000 exhibits at the museum. 10 LIGHTHOUSE DISCIPLESHIP CAMP 2010, SHARED BY NG EE LOON, CAMP ORGANIZER: The Lighthouse Seventh-day Adventist Church, Penang, organized the 1st camp this year from Jul 9 11, its of a great Over 100 members and friends signed up for the camp held in Taiping Golf Resort. The idea of having a discipleship camp was brought up by Dr Chew Yu Gee (the founder of the Lighthouse Church) about 2 months before the camp took place. It was a much needed camp as most of the members were keen to learn and understand what great discipleship truly means and how we can grow spiritually and cultivate the habits of a great disciple. As this is a newly set-up church, it is of utmost importance that we started with the right footing by bringing in a very experienced speaker from the Union, Pr Simon Siew, who has a wealth of experience in conducting camps across Asia. It was a great blessing for all of us in the Lighthouse that Pr Siew could spend 3 days with us at the camp, giving us devotional talks with great insights into the 6 spiritual disciplines (SOLITUDE, PRAYER, BIBLE STUDY, FELLOWSHIP, SERVANTHOOD and WITNESSING). What touched us most was the discipline of SOLITUDE where we The complete silence allowed us to focus on God and appreciate peace that came from being in the presence of God. It was a great spiritual experience for us as we learnt to re-connect ourselves with God. Overall, we think that this was a great milestone for this new church. We definitely want to put what we have learnt into our daily practice and hope that we will keep these habits in our journey to be great disciples of Christ. We praise the Lord for making this camp a success! For more information, visit our website at or call us at MEDICAL MISSION TRIP TO VIETNAM SHARED BY MS LYNIE JOHARI, HEALTH EDUCATOR: The medical mission trip for 2010 is in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, held on Jun 22. One of the earliest known records of the area now known as Ho Chi Minh City says that it was a small fishing village called Prey Nokor, inhabited by the Khmer people. In 1623, Vietnamese refugees fled from the civil war in Vietnam and settled in Prey Nokor (which was a part of Cambodia) with the permission of the king of Cambodia. Gradually more Vietnamese refugees migrated to this area and this place came to be known as Saigon. In conjunction of the Cholon th anniversary, 12 people from Penang Adventist Hospital Church and 13 people from Loma Linda Chinese Adventist Church were invited to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to conduct a 3-days health screening, eye assessment, dental check-up, tooth extraction and tooth cleaning. Over the 3-days of health screening, 199 people were screened. Out of these:-- a) 75 had normal blood sugar, 22 had diabetes (random), 9 had diabetes (fasting). b) 35 had normal blood pressure, 29 had high BP. c) Dental hygiene section cleaned 34 mouths. d) 22 teeth fillings and extracted 19 bad teeth. We would like to thank the Loma Linda Chinese Church who sponsored the medical supplies; Dr Edward Nathan and Mdm Shanthi for being great coordinators; Health Education Department of Penang Adventist Hospital who lent us most of the medical equipment, and the team members who made this mission a success! 13 ~ M efugee Centre ~ ZOMI REFUGEE CENTRE SHARED BY MR NANG KHAN MUNG: We documented the first visit of our Church (Seventh-day Adventist) to the ZOMI Refugee Centre by the year end of It is estimated that there are thousands of ZOMI Refugees in Malaysia. There are about refugees who are Adventist members. ZOMIs come from the Northern Chin State. Chin State is one of the seven ethnic states in Myanmar (Burma). Chin State is located at the borders of India and Bangladesh. The population of Chin State is estimated at about half a million. 90% of the Chin State are Christian. Between 45,000 and 50,000 Chin refugees are currently taking refuge in Malaysia. Some of them have already resettled in other countries like America, Europe and Australia. These Adventist refugees attended the Kuala Lumpur English Church in the past years, but by the beginning of 2010, they started to worship in places like Chow Kit (ZOMI service) and Pudu (Myanmar service). On every Sabbath day, church members and friends from other denominations come to have fellowship and worship with us. Different Community Groups in Malaysia Because of the Burmese military junta oppression and mistreatment on the minor ethnic groups, we, the refugees fled to our neighbouring countries like Thailand, India and Malaysia. These minor ethnic groups are Chin, Kachin, Karen, Karenni, Mon, Shan and Arakanese, and they formed their own community centre according to their ethnicity. The above stated different ethnic communities in Malaysia were established to help refugees in education, health, protection, translation, interpretation, etc. Refugee volunteers are taking responsibilities in their respective ethnic community groups with fully volunteering spirit and zeal. Most of the community volunteers do not have any income and lived on donations received from NGOs and churches. Thank you note from ZOMI One of the most unforgettable events for the ZOMI refugees took place on Feb where Adventist Community Health Centre Health Coordinator, Mrs Jane Jap and her husband, Allan, organized a Dental and Medical outreach to the ZOMI centre. It was a very special dental treatment for the refugees because we could not afford such services, and it was also not easy to get treatment from the government or private clinics. Two dentists and a few nurses from the Penang Adventist Hospital and churches devoted their precious time to the refugees in need: 85 teeth were uprooted and 40 teeth had In 2001, the Chin ethnic group from Burma (Myanmar) formed a Refugee Committee called CRC (Chin Refugee Committee). It was established to support and help every Chin refugee in Malaysia. From the beginning of its establishment until today, it worked together with UNHCR. In the Chin states, there are about 40 different languages. Before 1988, there were only 9 townships, but now there are 12 townships. The Northern part of the Chin state consists of the Tedim township, Tonzang township and Cikha township. People from this part are called ZOMI and they commonly speak the Tedim language. In 2005, another Chin community called ACR (Alliance of Chin Refugee) was formed, which represents the whole Chin state including CRC. In 2006, ZOMI commenced another community called ZAM (ZOMI Association of Malaysia). ZAM represents only the Chin ethnic refugees from the Tedim, Tonzang and Cikha townships. Medical team of Adventist Community Health Centre. their fillings done. Madam Goh Cheng Siew and her team also arranged dinner and a special musical programme. Moreover, starting January, the members of Petaling Jaya English Church are donating about 100kg of rice to the refugee volunteers monthly. By taking into account all of these activities, we could see that our church is greatly involved in helping people in need. Therefore, on behalf of all the ZOMI, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the church members in Malaysia for your kindness. May our God richly bless you all with good health, lessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdo of heaven. atthew :3, NIV. Vision 13

16 ~ out e enth da d entist ~ YOUTH ALIVE HELD IN PENANG ON SEP 2009 SHARED BY PENANG YOUTH: Youth Alive was definitely an eye opener. A major factor. A major mechanism. A booster. An aggravator. Good follow-ups are vital in order to maintain the flame. This, unfortunately, was not really successful due to many unforeseen circumstances. But God had a plan. And right now, we see how much Youth Alive had affected those who are currently leading out and those that were not spiritually receptive. We may have not gained many seekers directly from Youth Alive, but Youth Alive did better equip The Care Group Ministry is one of the major reasons our youth is getting more and more purposeful. wisdom and understanding is from Him alone (Proverbs 2:6). Youth Alive has been a piece of the big puzzle that our Father in Heaven has been and still is putting together. So that we may degrade ourselves and learn to better abide in Him. So that He may abide in us. It is only thus, we can continue producing fruit. Upcoming Events around Peninsular Malaysia 1.
