SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Couples should meet with a priest at least eight months prior to the wedding. The wedding date should not be set before talking with a priest. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptism preparation classes are held in the conference room the first Saturday of each month, from 10:00am to 11:30am. The classes are required for parents and godparents. If we believe that we are saved by what we do, by how our balance sheet looks when we face St. Peter at the pearly gates, then we would see today's gospel as unfair. After all, the laborers who worked hard all day got only the same pay as those who worked only for a little while. The "super just" should get more than those who just slid by in the end. Although this is an understandable human viewpoint, it obviously doesn't fit with the teaching of Jesus. On the other hand, if we accept that our salvation is an unearned gift, paid for by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and that our lives should be thanksgiving and being the presence of Jesus among God's people, then we would be overjoyed that even those who didn't live such a life of goodness all of their life can receive God's infinite love and mercy. And that is the crux of it. God's love and mercy are infinite, and so we should not put constraints on them because of our own human weakness and failing. Fr. Gillespie, our former pastor for many years, told a homily in which the righteous, upon nearing heaven after their death, found that the most evil of humans were in line to get in. The just were angry that they had strived their whole life to be good, yet the evil had been forgiven by God and were getting equal treatment. They cursed God and were therefore sent to hell. Let us rejoice that our Father is a loving and merciful God. And let us remember the Gospel from last week that calls us to be merciful as we have received mercy, lest we not be forgiven. 7 greater Gainesville, catholic schools, the Diocese and The parish WEEK OF Alachua Habitat for Humanity and local faith partners are getting ready to start on our 6th Interfaith build this fall, and we seek your help. Interfaith build provides an opportunity for congregations from all religions to build on their faiths, collaborate, and share their love through an Alachua Habitat for Humanity construction project. During the build process, faith partners provide volunteers, meals, and financial support to help a local family build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Aside from new homes built, the positive and meaningful interactions among members of different religions encourages mutual trust, inspires hope, and ensures the sustainability of interfaith collaboration. A full-faith sponsorship from St. Augustine's is $6500. In addition to financial sponsorships, congregations are invited to sponsor/provide lunches at the build sites and to volunteer to help build no experience necessary!
