When Christians begin to understand why Jesus chose the precise words of this potent prayer, the true power of the Lord s Prayer will be released to change the Christian faith. Not only will Christianity be revolutionized, Christians themselves will become empowered to revolutionize the world. A resource for individual study and small group action, exploring the practical and transforming potential of the prayer as recorded in Luke 11. Each chapter focuses on a particular phrase and explores its impact for ministries of service, healing, and justice. Emphasis for the Month: Spiritual Growth Pastor s Book of the Month: The Revolutionary Power of the Lord s Prayer by Rev. Dr. Alice Burnette Greene 4
5 Eli Mac 2018 Homecoming Speaker Minister Elijah L. McDavid III, a native of Arlington, VA, is a preacher, scholar, curator, and disciple, passionate about the divine and serious about sharing the Gospel. He currently serves as the Assistant to the Pastor of the Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. In addition to teaching and preaching, Min. Elijah oversees the Village small groups program and Hidden Halos as well as research and development for several upcoming projects. In July of 2012 Elijah became the youngest person to be licensed to preach the gospel by this historic 215 year old congregation. McDavid, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Morehouse College, is currently the James A. Forbes Scholar at Union Theological Seminary where he is a candidate for the Master of Divinity degree in Christian Social Ethics. Throughout 2014, Elijah helped facilitate theological reflection and dialogue with members of Congress while serving at the Faith & Politics Institute in Washington, DC. He has also worked to develop theological curricula for doctors and nurses, while working at Wesley Theological Seminary, to further the institution s Heal the Sick program, which seeks to bridge the gap between healthcare disparity awareness and theological education. Elijah is a proud alumnus of the Institute for Responsible Citizenship in Washington, DC. He has also previously served at the First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem, NY and the First Iconium Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. Elijah s love of serving and inspiring people has granted him the opportunity to speak throughout the United States, as well as abroad in Sierra Leone and Singapore. Elijah hopes that through his ministry, he can help people grow in love, mature in wisdom, and transform according to God s will for their life. 5

8 Prayers for the Schools Day 36 Sun., September 16, 2018 God, reveal yourself through signs and wonders on this campus. Perform miracles and incredible works so that you will be glorified and many people will see and believe. Meet student needs in supernatural ways so people will praise you (Acts 10:38; Mk. 16:15 20). Day 37 Mon., September 17, 2018 Lord, special events like dances, award ceremonies, concerts, and big games can be very important in students lives. Cover these events with your protection so that they will be truly memorable in positive ways. Let the name Jesus be part of them. Be exalted, O Lord (Luke 10:19). Day 38 Tues., September 18, 2018 God, it s not easy being a teenager, and often they need someone to talk to. Speak clearly to the guidance counselors as they speak to students. Give them supernatural wisdom and insight so that they can confirm your purpose in young lives. Holy Spirit, be their source (Jer. 33:3; John 15:26). Day 39 Wed., September 19, 2018 School can be a stressful, even a crazy place at times. Please pour out your peace continually here. Let peace fill the rooms and halls. When noise and activity seem over whelming, show each person how to rest in you. Teach students the value of solitude and silence (John 14:27; Lk. 5:16). Day 40 Thurs., September 20, 2018 In Jesus name, I pray around the boundaries of this school property. I claim this ground for the glory of God and say that He will be lifted up in everything that happens here! Come, Lord Jesus, and inhabit every corner of this place, both now and in the years to come (Josh. 1; Eph. 2:22). Prayer Point Press: Keys to the Kingdom: Prayers for the Schools, Rev. Dr. Terry Teykl. 8
