2 Recently Deceased: Lily McGlone, Kathleen Brenahan, John Wilkie, Ray Kelly Anniversaries: Maddalena Falconieri, Guerino Di Petta, Paul Keating, Jack Frank, Georgina Borg, Agg Govan, Frank Galea Pray for the sick and their Carers: Brenda Robinson, Roldan Son, Bella Smith, Noah Guest, Olivia Grover, Douglas Waldie, John Morgan, Merla Calubiran, Edith Masseig, Lucy Knight (NZ), Simon Lane, Cheryl Vercoe, Phyllis Harvey, Ingrid Messner, Charlotte Beck, Joan Clements, Jim McHugh, James Hird, Rachael Sanderson (Davies), Dawn Meier, Paul & Lauren Evans, Toni Kumpukdee, Barbara, Lisa, Dawn, Michael, Les Harper (organiser of the East Timor project from Mt Eliza), Kevin John Vinen, Teena Riley (Drake), Mora Wright-Sly, Peter McHugh, Sorcha Casey, Adam Riley, Cassie Whyte, Joy and Ron, Mary Cowan First Reading Wis 2:12, A reading from the book of Wisdom The godless say to themselves, Let us lie in wait for the virtuous man, since he annoys us and opposes our way of life, reproaches us for our breaches of the law and accuses us of playing false to our upbringing. Let us see if what he says is true, let us observe what kind of end he himself will have. If the virtuous man is God's son, God will take his part and rescue him from the clutches of his enemies. Let us test him with cruelty and with torture, and thus explore this gentleness of his and put his endurance to the proof. Let us condemn him to a shameful death since he will be looked after we have his word for it. The Word of the Lord Responsorial Psalm Ps 53: R. v.6 (R.) The Lord upholds my life. 1. O God, save me by your name; by your power, uphold my cause. O God, hear my prayers; listen to the words of my mouth. (R.) 2. For proud men have risen against me, ruthless men seek my life. They have no regard for God. (R.) 3. But I have God for my help. The Lord upholds my life. I will sacrifice to you with willing heart and praise your name for it is good. (R.) Second Reading Jas 3:16 4:3 A reading from the letter of St James Wherever you find jealousy and ambition, you find disharmony, and wicked things of every kind being done; whereas the wisdom that comes down from above is essentially something pure; it also makes for peace, and is kindly and considerate; it is full of compassion and shows itself by doing good; nor is there any trace of partiality or hypocrisy in it. Peacemakers, when they work for peace, sow the seeds which will bear fruit in holiness. Where do these wars and battles between yourselves first start? Isn t it precisely in the desires fighting inside your own selves? You want something and you haven t got it; so you are prepared to kill. You have an ambition that you cannot satisfy; so you fight to get your way by force. Why you don t have what you want is because you don t pray for it; when you do pray and don t get it, it is because you have not prayed properly, you have prayed for something to indulge your own desires. The Word of the Lord Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia!god has called us with the gospel to share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Alleluia!

3 Gospel Mk 9:30-37 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark. After leaving the mountain Jesus and his disciples made their way through Galilee; and he did not want anyone to know, because he was instructing his disciples; he was telling them, The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men; they will put him to death; and three days after he has been put to death he will rise again. But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him. They came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, What were you arguing about on the road? They said nothing because they had been arguing which of them was the greatest. So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, If anyone wants to be first, he must make himself last of all and servant of all. He then took a little child, set him in front of them, put his arms round him, and said to them, Anyone who welcomes one of these little children in my name, welcomes me; and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me. The Gospel of the Lord Communion Antiphon I am the Good Shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and mine know me. THIS WEEKEND WE WELCOME 4 NEW MEMBERS WHO JOIN OUR PARISH COMMUNITY THROUGH THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Keira Fahey, Amelie Neil, Thomas Murray, Magdalene Palmer EUCHARISTIC ADORATION The Master is here and wants to see you (John 11:28) The Adoration is to continue each Friday from 10.30am-10pm. Those interested in being part of the adoration roster for one hour, please contact the Parish Office on RCIA (CATECHUMENATE 2015 / 2016) We are planning the new RCIA program, commencing soon, and have our wonderful team ready to go. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a simple experience and explanation of the Catholic/Christian Faith the things that Catholics believe and try to practise. We try to deal with some of the big issues of our society today; topics like death, the problems of pain and suffering, moral issues, marriage and family, reasons for hope, etc. The get-together is held on a weekly basis in the Community Centre on a Monday evening and lasts for approximately one hour, including a cuppa. I am sure we will have a good group again this year. The program is for Non-Catholics, Catholics who have not been practising or people who just want to update their understanding. At the end, some people may wish to join the Catholic faith if so, that s great, however, if it just leads to a better understanding of oneself and God that would be wonderful too. This will be the fourteenth RCIA group at St Macartan s since All these groups have been outstanding in growth, learning and friendship as well. RCIA runs from early October 2015 through to Pentecost to 2016, missing holidays of course! Our first get-together is Monday October 5 th at 7:30pmin the Community Centre. If you would like to discuss it a bit more before making a commitment or if you have any queries, just call any one of the following numbers; Parish Office , Sr Gen , Paul Girolami or Terry Roberts

4 PARISH CENSUS This weekend we continue to update our Census the names, addresses, etc, of everyone in the Parish. We have had a fairly good Census over the past few years, but we do need to update it. People move, some pass away, more children are born, sadly some couples split up, children leave school, some change schools. We try to keep this private information up to date for obvious pastoral reasons. Please be assured that the information you give us is held securely and is guarded carefully. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET FILLED IN A CENSUS CARD, WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE FILL ONE IN THIS WEEKEND, EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN HERE FOR YEARS. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE CARD HOME BUT PLACE YOUR COMPLETED CARD IN THE COLLECTION BASKET. THANK YOU. ST MACARTAN S PARISH - THANKSGIVING RENEWAL Next weekend we begin our Thanksgiving Renewal Campaign. This is a crucial time in the life of our Parish as Thanksgiving provides us with the resources to fund every aspect of Parish life from donations to debt reduction. We have an opportunity to be visionary, to plan the future with confidence, to teach true Christian giving and to breathe a new way of living into our Parish Community. This is a time to look at returning to God a portion of our worldly goods in Thanksgiving. All sections of the Parish can help in some way; young, old, school families, new parishioners, etc. What will your contribution be? Join a Parish group, serve in some way, contribute financially, participate. Please give consideration to making a pastoral and financial commitment in support of our Parish. All parishioners are invited to get involved as each of us has something to offer. From next weekend, a brochure will be available reflecting the story of our Parish and outlining what has been achieved as well as our goals for the future. A Pledge slip will also be attached if you would like to contribute to our Thanksgiving programme (please consider donating by Direct Debit or Credit Card as this greatly reduces the monthly administration costs for the Parish). Please join us in praying for the success of the renewal Program. Lord, we thank you for calling us to be your Church. Through our Baptism we are called to ministry and to witness. In the Eucharist we sustain and strengthen that call. By serving others we follow Your example and proclaim our beliefs. By our Christian generosity we demonstrate our love and caring. Help us Lord to always worship You as You deserve, to grow in faith And service and to give without counting the cost. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

5 Fr Paul Fr Paul has been appointed Administrator of St Mary's Parish, Seymour. Because he has already arranged some holidays overseas, it means that he will be leaving us this Monday 21st September. He will be celebrating all Masses this weekend and a farewell cuppa will be held in the Parish Community Centre after the 11am Mass. We thank Fr Paul for his dedication and enthusiasm and wish him all the best in his new Parish. You are welcome to show your gratitude to Fr Paul for his services to St Macartan s after Mass. All over Australia seminaries are flourishing and Corpus Christi College is no exception. After years of decline, the tide has turned and we must build more rooms for the growing number of students. FINALS KNOCKOUT The finals started last weekend with four Victorian Teams and four Interstate teams. Unfortunately the two teams eliminated were Victorians. The best game of the first week of the finals was between the Western Bulldogs and the Adelaide Crows. It was a great game of football with plenty of goals scored, so different to the Fremantle v Swans game. This weekend only one game is being played in Melbourne. Next weekend there will be none as both preliminary games will be played in Perth. Hopefully if the Swans play there the minority of Westralians at the game who boo Adam Goodes will stay home at look in the mirror and see how they let themselves down and football followers from the West. Their behaviour last week left much to be desired. People why do they do this to one particular indigenous player? After the first game between Hawthorn and West Coast only half of the tippers remained. Following the Western Bulldogs and Richmond games only three remain to tip for week two. They are Spencer Meier, Jack Jansson and Barry Hansen. They need to pick two winners this weekend to proceed to week three. If they all fail all will be back to pick for week three. HOME & AWAY; The results of the Home and Away Season after the 23 rounds. The top ten were: Equal 1st. Delina Frank, Adam Lane, Irene Hackett all with top score of 144. Next, Shelley Finn (143), Dermot McCarthy (142), James Barrett (142), Paul Stinear (141), Chris Smyth( 140), John Frank (139) and John Lewis (137). Five of the top ten follow Western Bulldogs. The next ten next week. Best Religious was Sister Lois Young. Best Junior Tessa Houlihan.
