4 luke 6: Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and don t do the things I say? 47 I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them:

5 luke 6: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn t shake it, because it was well built.

6 luke 6: But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great.

46 THE IMPLICATION

47 Obedience to Jesus has eternal consequences.

48 Calling yourself a Christian doesn t make you a Christian.

49 Calling yourself a Christian doesn t make you a Christian. Thinking that you re a Christian doesn t make you a Christian.

50 Calling yourself a Christian doesn t make you a Christian. Thinking that you re a Christian doesn t make you a Christian. Saying a prayer doesn t make you a Christian.

51 In much contemporary evangelism, there is little concern for whether or not God will accept us, and much concern for whether or not we will accept Him. Little attention is paid to whether or not we please Him, and much to whether or not He pleases us.

52 Many popular evangelistic methods are molded by these considerations. As a result, there is far too little stress on God s character and the requirements of the kingdom, and far too much stress on our needs. -DA Carson

65 Application 1. Is your life characterized by obedience to Jesus?

66 PHILIPPIANS 2:12 12 Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

67 Application 2. We must never live in such a way, think in such a way, or teach the Bible in such a way that leaves room for the people around us to have false hope they have been forgiven and redeemed by Jesus, when in fact they have not.

68 1 CORINTHIANS 3: If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw, 13 each one s work will become obvious. For the day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire; the fire will test the quality of each one s work.
