2 August 20, th Sunday in Ordinary Time For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. - ROMANS 11:29 God has a special mission in mind for each of us. He has given us the gifts we need to accomplish that mission. We are called to be good stewards by using those gifts to do the work that He has planned for each of us. If we deny our gifts or fail to use them as God calls us to use them, then some part of His work will be left undone. Monday: READINGS FOR THE WEEK Jgs 2:11-19; Ps 106:34-37, 39-40, 43ab, 44; Mt 19:16-22 Tuesday: Jgs 6:11-24a; Ps 85:9, 11-14; Mt 19:23-30 Wednesday: Jgs 9:6-15; Ps 21:2-7; Mt 20:1-16 Thursday: Rv 21:9b-14; Ps 145:10-13, 17-18; Jn 1:45-51 Friday: Ru 1:1, 3-6, 14b-16, 22; Ps 146:5-10; Saturday: Mt 22:34-40 Ru 2:1-3, 8-11; 4:13-17; Ps 128:1b-5; Mt 23:1-12 Sunday: Is 22:19-23; Ps 138:1-3, 6, 8; Rom 11:33-36; Mt 16:13-20 Job Opening CDL driver needed part time to pull a box trailer and a dry cement tanker between job site to job site. CALLED TO ACT IN GOD S NAME Let all the nations praise you! (Psalm 67:4) today s psalm response exclaims. In the psalms and other Hebrew scriptures, this kind of invocation is actually an invitation to God to act, to intervene in human lives in a manner that will cause everyone not just the Chosen People to give praise. Stated a bit more strongly, it is something of a put up or shut up challenge to God, the sort of strong statement the psalmists of Israel, trusting in their intimate and loving relationship with God, were not afraid to make. The Gospel has its own exclamation, announcing the appearance of the Canaanite woman with Behold! (Matthew 15:22) Behold! is a scriptural flag that tells us that God is about to act or announce something through an individual or a situation. In the case of Jesus, God was going to act through this woman, whom nobody among Jesus followers would have believed to be an agent of the divine will. Like the psalmists, we might passively inform or perhaps even actively challenge God to do something so that everyone will come to belief, but God will always turn the tables on us. It becomes our calling, our duty (as it was for Jesus) to behold the situations and persons of our daily lives so that God can act through us, so the Kingdom can be announced through our living. 4 Welcome Fr. Isidore Baky Please welcome back Fr. Isidore Baky, who will be our priest while Fr. Martino is on Sabbatical in Rome. If you need to reach Father Isidore for sacramental needs, please contact Pattie in the parish office or for emergencies after hours at Dear Parish Family: We want to express our sweetest thank you for all of you who attended Daniela's quinceañera ceremony. It was such a wonderful feeling being surrounded by so much warmth and love. You all are very special people in our lives and we feel blessed to have shared this important moment at St. Boniface. We specially want to thank Fr. Martino for making that day so special for our daughter, also many thanks to the 5 p.m. choir, it's always a pleasure to hear them singing. We appreciate Mr. Don Smith, and all the people that were there to help us unconditionally. Finally, Clara Jobe and Paola Lopez that made such a great job with the reception. May God bless you all!!! With great love and appreciation, --The Rodriguez Family New Air Handlers for Faith Formation Building As you may have heard, we are in need of new air handlers for the Faith Formation Building. The units are over 27 years old and they have served us very well. However, there are 5 units that serve this building and all 5 will need replacement. The cost will incur a little over $28, to have all 5 replaced. Since this has to come from our operational funds, we ask if you can spare a few extra dollars a week for the next few weeks to help offset the cost to the parish, it would be greatly appreciated. We do have funds in the savings account to help also offset the cost, but not enough to cover such a significant amount. As always we appreciate your generosity in helping the parish. Your contributions for the weekend of Aug. 13, 2017 Adult $5, Children $59.42 Building Fund $2, Bills paid this week $6, Thank you for your continuing generosity! These sessions will continue through Aug. 27. You are welcome to attend the remaining classes even if you missed the previous sessions. The regular lessons from Living the Good News will begin Sept. 10. Please join us on Sunday mornings at 9:45! RCIA: WHAT S IT ALL ABOUT? The "RCIA process" is divided into 4 distinct phases. Phase 1, the Inquiry, is a time to provide the searchers with basic teachings about God, give them the opportunity ask questions about the Catholic Faith, and get to know other Catholics. "Catechumens" are inquirers who have not been baptized, while "candidates" were baptized into another Christian denomination. Phase 2, the "Catechumenate." If the inquirers wish to continue on their journey, they enter this period of formal training in the Catholic Faith and way of life. Studies are focused on Jesus and His teachings, the teachings of the Catholic Church, the Sacraments, etc. Phase 3, the "Enlightenment," takes place during the 40 days of Lent. The focus changes from instruction to an emphasis on repentance and conversion. The sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) are conferred at the Easter Vigil. Phase 4, the "Mystagogy" (entering more deeply into the mysteries). The new Catholics are introduced to the different parish ministries so that they can choose how they want to become actively involved in parish life. >>>Phase 1 Inquiry sessions start Monday Sept. 11, 2017, in the Faith Formation Building. See future bulletins for more information, or call Denise Curtis at To register, contact the Parish Office at <<< Mary has been made Queen of heaven and earth by God, exalted above all the choirs of angels and all the saints. She is to be called Queen not only because of her divine motherhood, but also because she, by the will of God, had an outstanding part in the work of our eternal salvation (Pope Pius XII, Encyclical Letter, To the Queen of Heaven). She was given the power by her Son of bestowing upon us the fruits of the redemption. As the Second Vatican Council tells us, Taken up to heaven Our Lady did not lay aside her saving role, but by her manifold acts of intercession continues to win for us gifts of eternal salvation (Dogmatic Constitution on the Church 62). So Our Lady is busy working for us as the Mediatrix of All Graces, bestowing upon us the fruits of the redemption and winning for us gifts of eternal salvation. As our Queen and Mother, she helps to convert us, guide us, heal us, protect us and save us. --catholicexchange.com
