1 FEBRUARY 2015 WE ARE IN A GOOD PLACE I have been a member of St. David s since the summer of I sought out the church, as many do, by following the signs. I had visited a few other parishes in my search for a church home, but in no other place was I greeted by such warmth and enthusiasm: Welcome to St. David s and you WILL be in the choir! For me, that open, authentic welcome is the essence of what is best about St. David s: we love our church and are eager to share our love and excitement with any and all who come through our doors. We are in a Good Place. St.David s is a Good Place. Father Rick s legacy to us is a faithful, strong, growing parish full of good people, and programs that serve all facets of our congregation. Mark Osler wrote in a recent blog at the Huffington Post, many churches have animating spirits that transcend the temporal leadership. Often that soul of the church is rooted in and revealed through tradition, formal and informal. I believe that St. David s is such a church. As we move into this time of transition it is important to remember who we are and why we love this Good Place. One of our strongest traditions is that of service: we see a need, and we respond with our gifts and talents to make things happen. We have an opportunity to ponder in our hearts with faithful consideration how the next phase of our parish life will develop, what we need, and who will best serve us as we embark on this exciting journey. I am calling on each of you to volunteer your gifts and talents through the process of transition. There will be many roles to fill and our Good Place needs each and every one of you. Faithfully, Daryl Wilkinson, Senior Warden 1

CHEAP COMES TO ST. DAVID S by Michael Cass Get ready to learn a few things about opportunities to give in Nashville and maybe a few tips on how to live large without breaking your bank at Adult Forum on Sunday, February 1. Mary Hance, who has delighted readers of The Tennessean and the late Nashville Banner for more than 20 years with her Ms. Cheap column, will talk about the work of Second Harvest Food Bank and her annual Penny Drive, which collects pennies (as well as larger coins and bills) to help feed Second Harvest s clients. The drive, which will finish its sixth year on January 31, raised nearly $160,000 in the first five years, buying more than 600,000 meals for people in need. You can still contribute by putting your change in one of the cans located in Sanders Hall. Mary is a lifelong Episcopalian, a Sewanee graduate, a witty and heartfelt speaker, a citizen who believes in giving back to her community, and a dear friend to Heather and me. We hope you ll join us in hearing what she has to say at Adult Forum on February 1. She s ready to talk and looking forward to answering your questions. FROM GODLY PLAY by Jennifer Sanders Fruit of the Spirit is Joy, peace, kindness, Love, etc. Each month since September we have concentrated on specific "fruits", talking about how these fruits grow in us through Him and how our fruits help others. So, I can't think of anything better than to focus on Love for the month of February! Love is here, Love is in us and we want to share it!!! Watch out this month, you may be blessed with some LOVE!
