1 ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO October 30, 2016 OUR SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS DAY VIGIL MASS WILL BE HELD MONDAY, OCTOBER 31 AT 7:00 P.M. OUR SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS MASS TIMES WILL BE TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1 AT 6:30 A.M. AND 8:15 A.M. READINGS FOR NOVEMBER 6 2 Maccabees 7:1-2, Thessalonians 2:16-3:5 Luke 20:27-38 With heartfelt thanks for your STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE October 22 & 23 Adults $12, Children $3.00 SECOND COLLECTION NOVEMBER 5 AND 6 FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE FOR MILITARY SERVICES (see page 4) PRAYER BEFORE AN ELECTION Lord God, as the election approaches, we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country, and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community. We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity, especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty. We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned, men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender. We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to your Kingdom. We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word, live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth as they follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. IN THE MILITARY Please pray for those serving in the military. Lord, protect our military as they sacrifice for us; bless them and their families for their continuing selflessness. Join us for DONUT SUNDAY November 6, in the Smith Building, following Mass! ANOINTING OF THE SICK We will celebrate the Anointing of the Sick at the 10:30 Mass on November 13. If you feel you have a need, you are invited to be anointed as we celebrate this act of God's grace as a community of Christian believers. Anyone wishing to be anointed is encouraged to sit toward the front or in along the center aisle so Father can anoint you, but he will come to you wherever you are sitting. 3 ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO October 30, 2016 CREATION CARE TEAM Catholic Relief Services invites you to consider seven steps in your daily life to become a better steward of Earth s harvests. This week: Eat simply. It takes 8 times more water to produce 1 pound of beef than to produce 1 pound of soybeans. Eating meat-free, even if only for a couple of days each week, puts less of a strain on Earth s resources and makes more food and water available for our human family. What is your favorite meatless meal recipe? FAIR TRADE ITEMS FOR SALE NOVEMBER 6TH Stop by the Fair Trade table during coffee and donuts in the Smith Building next Sunday! This is the last sale we will have after Mass for 2016 so be sure to stock up! ST. HELEN CHRISTMAS BAZAAR - SAVE THE DATE The St. Helen PTO Christmas Bazaar will be Saturday, December 3 rd from 9 AM until 3:30 PM. We are happy to announcement that the bazaar is sold out! 4 THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE FOR MILITARY SERVICES (AMS) TAKEN UP EVERY THREE YEARS Next weekend our parish will take up the Collection for the Archdiocese for Military Services USA. The AMS relies solely on private donors in support of its mission, Serving Those Who Serve and its ministry to provide the same pastoral care and services to Catholics serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, working in civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U. S. borders, and the families of those populations. While the salaries and retirement of Catholic military chaplains are paid for by the U.S. Government, the AMS receives no funding from government or the military for its programs. Please be as generous as you can for this collection. We know the Fall time period includes multiple second collections and simply ask that you share as your means allow. Thank you!
