1 ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH NON-PROFIT ORG. 314 FOURTH AVE NE US POSTAGE WASECA, MN PERMIT NO (Address Service Requested) Jesus Loves ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 22 Then He said to His disciples, Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. 23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? 25 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 26 If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Luke 12:22-26 (NKJV) ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH - (MISSOURI SYNOD) th Avenue Northeast Waseca, Minnesota Phone: stpaulwa@hickorytech.net Church Office Hours: 8:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. (Monday Friday) SUNDAY MORNINGS: Worship Service: 9:00 a.m. (Broadcast on KOWZ 1170 AM/106.3 FM) Fellowship/Coffee: 10:00 a.m. 10:15 a.m. Sunday School: 10:15 a.m. 11:15 a.m. Adult Bible Study: 10:30 a.m. 11:15
2 Words from the Pastor: I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in Him in all speech and all knowledge even as the testimony about Christ who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful. 1 st Cor. 1:4-9 This past Sunday, there were some real joys, as well as some tears shed. It was the last opportunity where I would stand in front of the church here, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Waseca, MN as your pastor. I joyfully was reminded (as I looked out into a number of smiling faces, and numerous moist eyes) of the times that we have had, to go to God s word, and listen to what He has revealed unto His people. In this, my last newsletter article, there are a number of good things that the Lord has done here in our midst, in these previous five years, for which I would like to thank Him: - Increased worship attendance (it s not the main indicator that God s word is being preached properly, but it was great to see many people responding positively to solid Biblical preaching and teaching) - Increased Bible study, and Bible study attendance (this is SO important, not only for our getting to know one another better, but for an increase in Bible knowledge, and daily dependence upon God) - People responding to the Lord s gracious goodness by giving back to Him (This last year was one of the first in a long time, where the church ended in the black, without having to borrow. Thanks be to God! - Increased youth attendance & participation in Bible study, activities and witnessing (We are told to bring up the next generation, and there are some excellent examples of good young Christian men and women here. I hope that this church will continue to see the importance, and priority, of teaching our youth the truth of God s word, rather than just offering social events, activities and trips that don t automatically strengthen faith in Christ. We have to continue to go to God s word, and be fed by Him!) - Real evangelism (it s great to hear of some here, bringing the Gospel of Jesus, out to others!) - Volunteers who have given of their time and talents in thankfulness to God (teaching Sunday School, beautifying the outside of our church with the flower bed, cleaning my alb, VBS, and others) - Excellent organists (Cindy & Jeanette) who too often only get remembered if there is a rare mistake - Better signs (such as marking our bathrooms, to help newer people find their way around this large structure. The more we try to see things, as a newer person would see them and reach out to them, the more we can help, and welcome them into this family of faith, here) - For being able to be at the bedside of many of our family members here (some of which have been called to their eternal home. I pray trying to limit Pastoral calls does not happen, nor the supporting of it.) - Being the Operation Christmas Child host site for the community (It was great to see people here, giving gifts for children overseas, who will also be receiving information of the coming of Jesus. But it was also great to see people in the community coming here, and asking about our church, and the new attitude, of reaching out into the community, and trying to help those in need. People noticed!) - Increased care and concern about how we talk to, and treat one another (There have been numerous situations in the past, where things were said, that hurt feelings, and several people have left. It was a real joy to see some return. But there is still work to be done, so that we love, even as Christ loved us with sacrificial love, rather than bullying our way through, so that we get our way, no matter what.) - And so many people that continue to come to hear the word of God, and receive His sacrament, and respond in thanksgiving (there are too many individuals to list here, in this space) My family and I are very grateful for several people, and families, that we have gotten to know, and love here: some have brought over grown vegetables, or meals; some hosted several of our children, when we first came to town; our guild women, who gave me those beautiful Advent and Lenten stoles (which I will always treasure, each time I use them); the relationships that were built over the years, as our family members have been involved with many different things, and areas here (the Script program, radio ministry monitors, babysitting, acolyting, ushering, singing at the nursing homes, OAFC, 29ers functions, Thur. morning Bible study)
3 Words from the Pastor - Continued: For these (and many more) I do truly wish to give thanks to my God as we heard above in 1 st Corinthians. It is this word of Christ Jesus our Lord (who suffered on account of our sins, died in our place at Calvary, and rose victoriously three days later) that will sustain us unto the end. It is only faith in Christ that grants eternal life (rather than damnation, as our sins deserve). And this faith is given unto us, as we continue to listen unto God s word: faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom. 10:17) So if I could say one last thing to you, I would beg of each of you, that you would continue in what you have learned (2 nd Tim. 3:14-16), and that you would crave pure spiritual milk (1 st Peter 2:2) as God provides in His word. Please pray for God s guidance and leading, in calling a Godly man, who will preach all of the word of God in it s truth and purity! God has promised, that He will be faithful. That is why all thanksgiving, rightfully belongs to Him. Remember, that for those who have faith in Christ Jesus (as their own Lord and Savior), we don t say Goodbye, but See you later! Thank you, and thanks be to God! Soli Deo Gloria! Please note: You must find a replacement if you cannot acolyte at the service assigned to you. Please contact the church office when you have changed with another acolyte. Please arrive to the church 20 minutes before the service begins, as the candles are to be lit 10 minutes before the service. Pre-Call Meeting Invitation: Interested members of St. Paul Lutheran Church are invited to attend a pre-call meeting with LCMS MN South District President Rev. Dr. Dean Nadasdy on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. Please note: The time of this meeting is tentative and any changes will be communicated in the Sunday worship bulletin. President Nadasdy will review the pastoral call process and answer member questions. The 29ers will meet on Wednesday, August 22 nd at 12:00 p.m. in the parish hall for potluck. Hosts are Roger & Marilyn Rucker Scholarships: If you are a 2018 high school graduate and would like to apply for the 2018 Church Scholarship, please contact the church office at to obtain a scholarship application form. The deadline to submit 2018 applications is September 30, 2018.
4 BIBLE READING SCHEDULE As we read God's Word this month, look for water, fire, and heat. The prophets often spoke of fire and heat when referring to God's judgment. Jesus often referred to or used water in His teaching and miracles. God's love and grace in Christ moved Him to suffer the tortures of hell that we might be bathed in the living waters of life for all eternity. AUGUST: 1. Isaiah 65,66; Psalm 62; John 3 2.
