4 PEF s 50th Anniversary Celebration, will be at Milligan College, Elizabethton, TN, July 14th-19th, The Significance of Dr. Jasmin Translating The Assurance of Faith, by Louis Berkhof, into Croatian. p. 20 Berkof writes, "Some of the schoolmen, who accepted the tenets of semi-pelagianism, had already denied the possibility of the assurance of salvation, and in doing this could claim the merit of consistency. Their view of the matter gradually gained the upper hand in the Roman Catholic church and was finally formulated by the Council of Trent. It declared that the assurance of being in a state of grace and of final salvation is impossible, except by some special revelation. The position of the church of Rome is that such a revelation is enjoyed by very few, perhaps only by the martyr-saints. The great majority of believers must be satisfied with a mere moral probability. The doctrine of perennial uncertainty respecting the highest interests of life is the natural consequence of the Semi-Pelagian doctrine of sin and grace, and of the practice of the church of Rome to make the forgiveness of sin largely dependent on the sacrament of penance and on the ministrations of a human intermediary. The Roman Catholic does not believe in the total depravity of man, and therefore cannot infer from the sparks of a higher life within himself, that God has begun the work of redemption. He looks upon faith primarily as a work of man, a mere assent to the truth accepted by the church, and not as a gift of divine grace, a trustful resting on the Savior. Moreover, his faith is not directed altogether away from himself to the mercy of God revealed in Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever, but is made to rest in part, on the uncertain foundation of his own moral state, and on good works which he accomplishes. Neither does he accept the doctrine of an absolute predestination, and the resulting truths, that the grace of God works only in the elect, and that by this grace the saints will persevere to the end. He says that even a present state of grace does not yet guarantee final salvation. Moreover, the Roman Catholic church makes the forgiveness of sins dependent, not on an immediate divine act of pardon once for all, but on the sacrament of penance that must be repeated after every mortal sin, and on the absolution of the priest. With every new deadly sin the state of grace is lost. It can only be restored by the sacrament of penance, and is lost again whenever a new mortal sin is committed. But this is not the only thing that makes assurance impossible. The confessional itself is hedged about with all kinds of uncertainties. The orders of the functioning priest may not be genuine, and this would make an absolution ineffctual. His intention may be at fault, and this would introduce another element of uncertainty. Then, too, the confessor maybe ambiguous, equivocal or indeterminate. He may overlook some of his sins and fail to mention them to the priest, in which case they would not be forgiven. It is know wonder therefore that, according to the church at Rome, the assurance of salvation is quite out of the question." According to the Word of God in 1 John 5:13 the church at Rome is completely out of accord with Holy Scripture. Your Catholic friends need to know that...

Psalm 107:28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. Sibenik Psalm 107:23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. Pray for this new church in Sibenik, a new Protestant Reformed Christian Church in Croatia. Pastor Jadran has a unique ministry to drug addicts. It is a testimony to God s grace that many congregants are ex-drug addicts. Psalm 24 :2 for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. Pastor Jadran being installed as the new Pastor in Sibenik, Croatia, with his wife Jelka at his side.

A dinner in the early morning hours was the only way we could visit with David, who is the chef at an outdoor café. Pastor Jadran and I visited David a number of times in Sept. 07, and talked and prayed with him. David admitted struggling for many years as a drug addict. Jadran and I invited David to come to the new Protestant Reformed Christian church in Sibenik. As you can see on the left, David did come to church. He invited his psychiatrist and she invited a doctor friend who also came. David talked over dinner about his life as a special forces operative, and shared stories that would make you put your knife and fork down! As a redeemed drug addict himself, Jadran showed me many people around Sibenik who are still in bondage to sin and addiction... there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:7 PRAISE GOD FOR THE NEW PROTES- TANT REFORMED CHRISTIAN- CHURCH IN SIBENIK, DALMATIA. It was a BLESSED DAY, WHEN JESUS WASHED MY SINS AWAY! Continue to pray for David and Pastor Jadran and his dear wife Jelka as they raise their family, run an accounting business, and minister in the church, and talk to people about Jesus, OUTSIDE the church, according to the Scriptures, in the POWER of the Holy Spirit, with the GIFTS that God has given them. PROJECT BELGRADE SERBIA BECOME A PARTNER OF A NEWLY FOUNDED SERBIAN REFORMED CHURCH. Dear in people Christ, We are happy to inform you that a mission work of our denomination has brought forth a fruit. A new Reformed church in Belgrade, Serbia, is starting with activities. Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and it has 2 million citizens. So far in Serbia there have been only Hungarian Reformed churches (they are mostly oriented toward a Hungarian speaking population). Last year the first Serbian Reformed church has been planted in Sremska Mitrovica, and now we are starting one more church in Belgrade. In both towns, Sremska Mitrovica and Belgrade, we have two young men that graduated theology and are preparing for full time church service. Cooperation between Croatia and Serbia in this mission project is of great significance and a great miracle too, especially when you consider the recent war between those two countries. On the Reformation day last year we had our first church service in Belgrade, and on January 19th, 2008 we will have our first service in a rented chapel, we will be having our services there on a regular basis. It is a small chapel that belongs to a humanitarian organization,. We will share this chapel with the Anglican church in Belgrade, they have their services there as well. However, we do need some financial help so that we can rent a chapel for the services and money is needed for travelling expenses each month. There is a small group of believers in Belgrade that expressed their wishes that I come at least twice a month and hold a church service. My cost from home to Belgrade and back is 75 USD. We also need to pay 50 USD each time we use a chapel, so for one church service including my travel expenses we need 125 USD. We need 250 USD per month. We started planting these churches in faith and with a vision. We are aware that we can t provide all of the finances ourselves. Therefore, we are inviting you to be our partners in this important project of founding the Serbian Reformed church. Your help, no matter how small, would be a great blessing to us. Please be our partner in this project at least for a month, or couple of months. For two church services monthly we need 250 USD, if we could gather 500 USD monthly we could have four services. We are very grateful to God for every donation, and we are asking for your help. We are also inviting you to come and visit with us and help us in our mission work in Serbia and here in Croatia as well. We would be more than happy to welcome summer mission teams, teachers of English, professors of theology, anyone who would be willing to help us in our mission work. 9 PEF s 50th Anniversary Celebration, will be at Milligan College, Elizabethton, TN, July 14th-19th, PROTESTANT REFORMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN CROATIA NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER Dear brothers and sisters, Greetings from the Protestant Reformed Christian Church in Croatia. We would like to inform you about our church activities during a months of September and October. Rev. Paddy Cook's visit In September we had a visit from representative of Presbyterian Evangelistic Fellowship, evangelist Paddy Cook. During his visit here he preached in Tordnici, Tenje, Osijek, `Sibenik and Belgrade (Serbia). Rev. Cook gave our pastors some excellent Reformed literature which will help them in their service. Publishing ministry: Rev. Cook helped us in collecting finances for translating, printing and publishing of Reformed literature in Croatian language. So during the month of September we published two books one by Louis Berkhoff: Assurance of Faith and one by Thomas Witherow: Apostolic Church- Which is it?. We are also working on translation of Westminster Confession and Catechisms. Ordination of church elders: Ordination of three church elders (Dragan Iatokovi!, Dragan Lovri! and Andrija Podrugovi! ) took place in Tordinci, which is the oldest Protestant church in Croatia (it was founded in 1551). Those three elders had proven themselves to be a role-model Christians and hard working servants for God s kingdom. Church renovation: Church in Tordinci is undergoing a renovation of walls, which need to be isolated from the damp, and we are also renovating a facility that will serve as a headquarters of Reformed Theological Institute and will be used for Sunday school as well. We received a donation this year from Gustaw Adolf Werk (4 000 euros) and believers themselves collected about euros this year. Mission work in Croatia: Here in Croatia we have started three mission churches (in Osijek, Tenja and Sibenik). In Tenja we rented a hall here we have regular church services, every Sunday. During the month of September we handed out about New Testaments together with other Christian literature. In Osijek we held evangelistic services in September and October. There were a lot of new people coming to the services. Church in `Sibenik is the only Reformed church in Dalmatia. Mission work of that church in directed toward helping drug addicts. Six more people expressed their wishes to join the church and are preparing to become members. Mission work in Serbia: In September we started having church services in Sremska Mitrovica, and in October in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. In Sremska Mitrovica we are allowed to have our church services in a hospital chapel. In Belgrade we got to have our first church service on the Reformation Day, Seventh Day Adventists gave us their church to have our service. We are in need of our own facilities so we can have regular services. Synod: On 28 October 2007 the Synod of The Protestant reformed Christian Church was summoned in Tordinci. It was the electoral Synod. Rev. Dr. Jasmin Milic! was elected Superintendent (moderator), the Synod president prof. Andrija Pordrugovi! and the Secretary of the Synod Rev. Darko Kelemen. The Presbytery, that consists of representatives of all churches in Croatia had been founded, and a new Statute has been passed. Church needs: 1. We re always looking for people to prayerfully consider joining us in building God s Kingdom in Croatia, both long-term and short-term. People interested should have a desire to serve and work with national leadership and be able to integrate themselves in a different culture and learn language. We need teachers of English, Evangelists, an Outreach organizer.those interested to do publishing of literature Mercy ministry PEF has the CROATIAN CHURCHES FUND, IF YOU WANT TO HELP BUY BOOKS. 2. Book donations for our Reformed Theological Institute. 3. Finances to rent the hall for church services in Tenja. The Church Moderator in Tenja uses these facilities for taking care of administration as well. This years rent (from September to December) is USD (250 USD a month). We still can not pay the rent but we believe God will open your hearts to help us in our need. Every donation, even the smallest one, will be a great blessing to us. 4.
