1 Name The Kingdom Builders Bible Study Every scripture, highlight, picture, underline, arrow & box, circled word, bold text, questions & even the cadence were written in such a way to help us reflect & think on Biblical principles. So, don't just answer the questions, get to really know what the Lord is trying to teach you! All Scripture is taken from the NASB unless noted. Written by Bob McCarter, with inspiration from James Bransom, Rick Branan, Mark Clemons, Ken Tyler, Bill Blanchette, & Ray Merring

2 A Great Way To Study The Bible SOAP - a good way to understand, study, and know the scripture! Practice the SOAP principle! H e r e ' s t h e p r i n c i p l e... Hummm, what's "principle" mean? Scripture: Observe: Apply: Pray: Read the verse or verses you're studying, read it several times, think about what you read. What is the verse saying? Look at it, ask yourself questions about the verse you're reading. What's it trying to tell me? What's it showing me? What do you see in the verse? What's God trying to say to me? How does this apply to me, what does it mean to me? Is there something in my life I should change or do as I begin to understand what God is teaching me? Pray what you're learning back to God! Ask God to help you understand so you can grow in His Word and wisdom. What does this word "apply" mean? Could it mean: understand, know, wisdom, insight, applicable, relevant, put on? What do these words mean to us? 1. Read these four verses, look closely, think about them as you read them. Are they saying something to you? a. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. Romans 13:14

3 b. and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Ephesians 4:24 c. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:11 d. I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 e. Look at the verses above, is there one that means something to you? Is there one you have a question about? What is your verse saying? What is it telling you to do? Can you do what the verse is telling you? Why is the verse telling you something? What is this guy doing? What do binoculars do? Do they bring things closer? What will bring God's Word closer to you? Go back to "soap", will the "soap" principle help? 2. Exercise! try this "building" exercise get some spaghetti noodles & marshmallows enough for whoever will be doing the exercise

4 a. exercise exercise exercise! For the next 5 minutes, we're gonna do an exercise. Take some spaghetti noodles and marshmallows and build something, make something, whatever you want. Be ready to tell me what you built and why you built it. You got 5 minutes! WHAT DID YOU BUILD? WHY DID YOU BUILD IT? WHAT'S ITS PURPOSE? ready - set - go 3. Think for a minute, reflect on these questions and see if you can answer them. Write your thoughts on the lines too. Does God build? What does He build? How does He build? Why does He build? 4. Read this verse from 1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. What are these verses saying? 1 Corinthians 3:16 Ephesians 2:20-22 Colossians 2:7 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5

5 Bible Study 1 1. Unscramble the word below and write your answer on the line. F U N D O N A T O I 2. Look at these "real" pictures of construction sites for a minute, what kind of "things" do you see? What do you think each structure is? Why do you think they are building it the way they are? foundation for a dam this is the start of a tower supports for a river bridge a home What is being built here? What do you think is the most important part of all these structures? Why? let's talk a. What do you think the "phrase" "spiritual application" means? That's a pretty big "phrase" to think about. What does it mean? b. Could there be some "spiritual application" to the pictures above? c. Why are these "foundations" important? spiritual applications are important 3. Read this passage from Matthew 7: "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock. "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. "And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act upon them, will be like a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand. "And the rain descended, and the What "things" around you can you find spiritual applications for? Think!

6 floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and it fell, and great was its fall." Look closely at this picture, "think", what are the things you see or don't see? Was the house close to the river? Was it built on sandy soil? Do you see that part of the house still has bricks yet still fell? Do you see that part of the driveway was concrete? If the house was made with bricks and concrete but still "fell", what does that tell you? Do you think this house was built on "sand" & too close to water? What does this tell us? How does this picture compare with Matthew 7:24-27? How bad was the "fall" of this house? Could it be recovered or fixed? Do you think this house would have to be built all over again? What kinds of "spiritual applications" are there that might apply to your life? can be found everywhere why do some not listen? (what do you see here or don't see here?) Hint: do you see any reinforcing steel called "rebar"? a. If you're building a house or any structure, what do you think might happen if you "cut costs"? (1). What's it mean to "cut costs"? (2). Could it mean build faster, or buy cheaper materials, or "cut corners"? (3). Could it mean to do something you should not do? What's all this mean? b. What do think might happen if you were building a house and you bought cheap materials, if you didn't put steel in the concrete, if you hurried and skipped a step in building? c. Is there a "spiritual application" here? What is it? d. How does the "world" want you to cut corners as you build your foundation in Christ? What or who is the "world"?

7 Could it be people who don't know Jesus? Could it be people who don't listen and follow Jesus? Could it be ideas and thoughts and people who try to lead you away from Jesus? Could it be the "wickedness" in this world? e. Have you ever "cut corners", done something you knew was wrong? What was the result? 4. When Jesus spoke these words, what is He trying to teach us? wise builder foolish builder "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock. "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. Which are kingdom builders? Which are you? What's the difference between the two? How can we be wise kingdom builders? what do you notice about these signs "And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act upon them, will be like a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand. "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and it fell, and great was its fall." What or who is a Kingdom Builder? What do they do? Who do they listen to? Why? Matthew 7:14 Matthew 7:13 What foundation does a Kingdom Builder work on? What happens if he works with another foundation?

8 Bible Study 2 1. Look at this picture, what do you see? You gotta look real close! Look for a hidden name in the cornerstone, it's in Hebrew. What is it? The answer is at the bottom of page 12. why are all the stones cracked, chipped, and broken except the cornerstone? a. Is one stone bigger and more perfect than the rest? b. What do all the other stones look like? c. What is going on at the top? What do you see? think spiritual d. Do you see a hand? Who is doing the building? applications See what the "Word" says? Read Psalm 118:22 Read Ephesians 2:19-22 Read Acts 4:8-12 Read 1 Peter 2:1-10 Is there something wrong with this Bible? 2. In your own words, tell us what the word "cornerstone" means! The cornerstone is the foundation stone, the first stone laid. It's the most important stone! It was the 1st stone set in buildings made of stone, like the temple. It's important because all the other stones were set in reference to that stone. The cornerstone determines the position of the whole building. what's this mean?

9 3. Lots of?s here! Read Ephesians 2: having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the Lord; 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. Why is Jesus the cornerstone? Jesus is the cornerstone, what makes up the rest of the building? Who is being fitted together? Why? Who is growing? Are you? How? Who should be? How are we being fitted? How do we grow? What prevents our growing? What are we growing into? Are we? why is 1 arrow going in all different directions? are we like that? (1). You and other believers (2). Why are you fitted together: Ephesians 4:12-13 (1). You do: Ephesians 2:22, 1 Peter 2:5 (1). It's part of prophecy: Isaiah 28:16 (2). There's only One Jesus, One Truth, One Way: John 14:6 (1). You are growing, in Christ (2). How is that done: 2 Timothy 3:14-15 Read 1 Corinthians 12:27 follow the arrows (1). God chisels away all the useless things and sin (2). What does He have to chisel out of you 3. Does God "prune" us? John 15:1-11, what's this mean? (1). Ephesians 4:15 - but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ (2). What does it mean: "in all aspects into Him" (3). Let God get rid of all the sin and junk in our lives (4). By being transformed: Romans 12:1-2 (5). 1 Peter 2:1-2, what should we put away and what should we crave (6). Read Philippians 3:13-14 What can you add to the answers? What do you think your life, your actions, your words, your attitude, your relationships are set in reference to? Is it THE CORNERSTONE?

10 Bible Study 3 A. A Kingdom Builder (circle your answer) 1. knows who the True Light is (John 1:9-12) true false 2. is part of the Kingdom, he's born again true false 3. always lets God use him (Philippians 2:13) true false 4. never builds on sand(matthew 7:24-27) true false 5. sticks with the foundation(psalm 16:8) true false 6. follows Jesus' example(1 Peter 2:21) true false 7. knows his body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1Corinthians 6:19) true false 8. is not ashamed to share Christ(Romans 1:16) true false 9. practices holiness(1 Peter 1:14-16) true false 10. helps build the kingdom(1 Cor 3:9a) true false 11. never has any problems(john 16:33) true false do you have to think a little about the answer What's the difference in these two signs? "may" "will" When "things" are good or when there's trouble, may or will how do we act or respond? What mindset to we take? Who do we depend on? B. When you "hear" the words "Kingdom Builder", what comes to you mind? (write what comes to your mind on the line below) C. Read each of these verses: 1. Matthew 6:33, what is the "kingdom of God"? 2. John 18:36, what did Jesus mean? Where is His kingdom? USE THE 3. Matthew 6:10, what was Jesus teaching us about the SOAP kingdom? 4. Acts 28:31, what's it mean: "preach" the kingdom of God? PRINCIPLE 5. Romans 14:17-19, what's this mean? 6. 1 Corinthians 15:50, WOW! What's this mean? 7. Luke 17:20-21, what's Jesus saying here about the kingdom?

11 D. 8. NOW read Matthew 28:18-20, what should we be doing, where should we be going, what should we be saying? 1. Who is a kingdom builder? 2. Should every Christian be a kingdom builder? 3. Are all Christians kingdom builders? 4. What are the ways we should build the kingdom? 5. What kind of kingdom is being built? 6. What kind of tools are used to build the kingdom? 7. Why are some fearful of building the kingdom? 8. Why do some avoid building the kingdom? 9. Should we just let others build the kingdom? 10. What's the first thing we do when God calls upon us? think spiritual applications t h i n k r e f l e c t E. When we think about "building", Nehemiah is a great example to us! 1. What did Nehemiah do when he heard that God's people were in great trouble and shame and the wall and gates of Jerusalem were destroyed? Read Nehemiah 1:4-11 (a). What does that tell us about Nehemiah? (b). What kind of person was he? character is (c). What was his heart like? the real you, (d). What kind of character did he have? from the inside (e). What kind of character would a kingdom builder need if he is gonna help build the kingdom? What's yours like? 2. What were some of the first words Nehemiah spoke to God's people? Read Nehemiah 2:17 (a). What do the words "let us" tell us? (b). he told them what to do true false (c). he yelled at them true false (d). he worked with them (together) true false

12 3. When Nehemiah built the wall, was anyone mad at him? (a). Read Nehemiah 2:10, 2:19, 4:1-8 (b). What words or phrases tell us that some were very mad? "displeased" "grieved" "jeered" "despised" "enraged" "angry" "plotted" "fight" 4. What does this tell us about the hearts of those people? (a). Read Matthew 13:15 (b). Read Jeremiah 17: When we: tell others we're a Christian share Christ with someone speak about Jesus to others try to do and live "right" and follow Jesus do we get teased? do people make fun of us? do some laugh at us? do some get angry? do some try to lead us away from Jesus? do we feel ashamed? 6. What did Nehemiah do when people were mean to him? a. look at Nehemiah 2:20, he depended on God. Do we depend on God part of the time, all of the time, or none of the time? b. look at Nehemiah 4:9, he prayed and took action. When do we pray, how much do we pray? Do we know Read 1 Thessalonians 5:17 the "WAY"? Do we depend Do we serve God by acting on our faith? on the WAY"? What's James 2:26 say? Are we of the c. look at Nehemiah 4:14, he encouraged God's same way as people. the "WAY"? Do we encourage others or discourage What's that mean? others? What's the difference? Read 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, focus on 11. What can we do to encourage others? 7. When people do mean things to us, what should we do? (write your answers on the line below) Look at Page 8, Question 1: The name on the corner stone is Jesus. Read Philippians 2:9-10

13 8. Look closely at this picture, what do you see? Read Nehemiah 4:15-18 What do you notice about the two guys who are moving the stone? With their hands they're using tools to build the walls around Jerusalem, AND around their waist, what do you see? 9. Look at this verse, Nehemiah 4: Those who were rebuilding the wall and those who carried burdens took their load with one hand doing the work and the other holding a weapon. 18a As for the builders, each wore his sword girded at his side as he built, What were they doing? Working? Serving? Rebuilding the wall? BUT, even as they did, why were they carrying their sword? Were they protecting themselves and the families from attack? Were there people who "hated" them? Did some want to destroy/stop them? F. what's this saying? think SOAP principle and spiritual application these could be tricky true or false God wants me to be a living stone God is the One who is building me God wants me to live a holy life I want to serve Jesus true or false everybody loves Christians no one will make fun of you for being a Christian only 1 person will try to stop you from serving God no one will try to lead you away from God

Just like in Nehemiah's day, God wants His people to help "build" His Kingdom. Just like in Nehemiah's day, think on these things some people will not like Christians and will do whatever they can to stop us. Also just like in Nehemiah's day, as we work and serve the Lord, we must carry the sword all the time to help protect us. What sword? Ephesians 6:17b(" sword of the Spirit, which is the ") WHATS THIS SIGN SAY? Hebrews 4:12(" word of God is sharper than ) Psalm 119:11(" your word ") Matthew 4:4 (" every word ") Jeremiah 23:29(" is not my word like fire, declares ") John 17:17(" word is truth ") Now read Jeremiah 29:11 Psalm 119:105("your word is a Did Nehemiah have a "God sized" lamp ") task? Was it a hard task? Did he Isaiah 55:11("so shall my have any obstacles? What were the word be that it goes ") results, did he complete the task? Read Nehemiah 6:15 WHAT DID NEHEMIAH'S ENEMIES THINK? Read Nehemiah 6:16 What does this mean to us? Reflect and think! H. Read, think SOAP principle. you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5 a. Why "living stones"? (1). stones are hard = sometimes we're hard to get through too, only Jesus can get through to our heart (2). once He's gotten through, He wants us to be living stones (3). a dead stone can't hear or listen or see or change, BUT a living stone can AND a living stone can resist or be hard against sin 14

15 (4). His Word living on the inside of what was once a hard heart, yet hard and immoveable (1 Corinthians 15:58) so sin doesn't overtake us b. Why a "spiritual house"? (1). God's always working (John 5:17), building us, into a spiritual house (2). God is Spirit and He's looking for those who want to be His people, worship and serve Him (John 4:23-24) (3). A house or home is the first place we learn from and always go to, it's a place of strength and security, the "house" God's building is the best place to be c. Why? To think spiritually, act spiritually, serve spiritually, to have a "spiritual mindset", and to give ourselves totally to Jesus I. How Does God Build 1st, God calls to our heart. Do we answer? Romans 10:10 He wants us to know Him & worship in spirit. John 3:1-6 John 4: th, God puts us where He wants us to serve. 1 Corinthians 12:18 5th, God wants us to be part of His spiritual house. 1 Peter 2:5 God calls us do we t h e n God wants you to be building His kingdom 2nd, God begins to give us a new heart for Him. Ezekiel 36: And, we can change. Romans 12:1-2 3rd, we learn to really love God & others. Matthew 22:37-39 be His ambassador 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 tell others Mark 16:15 Matthew 28:18-20 Romans 10:12-15 use your gifts to serve God's church 1 Peter 4:10 help sharpen others Proverbs 27:17

You Can Use These Memory Verses, Any That Are In Our Bible Study, or Your Bible 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves If you belong to Jesus and are letting Him build and the truth is not in us. you into a spiritual house, then write your name James 4:17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to on him the it is white sin. part of the stone. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 1 Peter 2:24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, " Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool. John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, Isaiah 43:25 "I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins. Acts 2:41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and there were added that day about three thousand souls. Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 2 Peter 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me. John 3:30 "He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. These verses are color coded to match the colors of the Gospel/Salvation beads. 16

17 Look around, just about any object you see can have a "spiritual application". Just about anything you do can have a "spiritual application". Sometimes we call this, "object lessons". Here's one you might see and do. What spiritual lesson can you think of when you're shooting arrows? Do all the arrows hit the center bulls eye? Do all the arrows hit the target? We've been sharing and learning about Kingdom Builders. As you think about "building" what kind of "spiritual applications" can you come up with when you see builders tools. See if you can come up with a scripture verse to match each one too. You can write your thoughts & verse down to help you remember. level
