7 Day Devotional Guide Mt. 28:16-20 REACH PEOPLE, TEACH PEOPLE, MINISTER TO PEOPLE To Enhance Discipleship SCBC
DAY ONE This simple devotional plan is designed to encourage you to become a better disciple by teaching you to pray and read God s word for the purpose of obeying it. Reading God s word daily creates within your heart a greater hunger for more quality time with the Lord, sharing His love with others and a desire to live holy. Each day has a short scripture portion and a prayer guide. Get alone. Read the scripture passages. Pray. Write down what God says to you and what you intend to do about it. Each day you will use the A.C.T.S. acronym to guide your prayer time. Scripture Reading Mt. 5:13-16; Pro. 4:18; Phil. 3:14-16 Adore - Praise God for His attributes, such as holiness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness etc. Sing, praise, or read one of the praise Psalms to the Lord. Confess your sins to God. (1John 1:7-9; Ps 32:1-4, Ps. 51) Thank God for your family, church and any blessing that comes to mind. Seek the Lord. Seek the Lord s grace on behalf of others. Here is where you may use a prayer list or simply bring people that you are burdened for to the Lord for salvation, healing, spiritual growth, wisdom etc. Record your thoughts What did God say to me in the above scripture passages? Is there a person(s) to whom I may be Salt and Light to today? Write their name(s),, Lord, help me to Reach, Teach or Minister to those listed above today. Amen.
DAY TWO Part of the disciple s learning process is repetition. Disciples are encouraged to repeat the same prayer routine daily until it becomes habitual. The Scripture passages will change daily, but the A.C.T.S. acronym is to be repeated daily. Scripture reading Mt. 10:32-39; Lu. 14:36-37 Adore - Praise God for His attributes, such as holiness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness etc. Sing, praise, or read one of the praise Psalms to the Lord. Confess your sins to God. (1John 1:7-9; Ps 32:1-4, Ps. 51) Thank God for your family, church and any blessing that comes to mind. Devotional Tip Devotions are better when free from interruptions. In addition, you will have a difficult time if you allow distractions such as TV, radio, internet, smartphones to bother you during your quiet time. Put aside those things when you keep your appointment with the King. Seek the Lord. Seek the Lord s grace on behalf of others. Here is where you may use a prayer list or simply bring people that you are burdened for to the Lord for salvation, healing, spiritual growth, wisdom etc. RECORD YOUR TOUGHTS What did God say to me in the above scripture passages? Write what is most difficult for you to obey or do as you meditate on the above scriptures. Do you think Jesus really meant what is recorded in the above verses? If Jesus means what he says, write down what He would have me change, give up or sacrifice to follow him?
DAY THREE Scripture Reading Luke 17:5-10; Luke 12:26-30 Today s devotional verses focus on the necessity of faith. Disciples are called by Christ to do things they are unable to until and unless they are empowered by Him. This calls for faith. The alternative to walking in faith is to only attempt to do those things that we are able to do in our own strength. As you read the passages above ask yourself, what is the Lord telling me to do that I can t do unless He enables me? Then ask, Am I willing to walk in faith? Devotional Tip Have you noticed how so many distractions try to keep you from experiencing your daily quiet time? This happens to all of us. When we decide to get serious about a daily devotional time, the devil, the flesh and the world join forces to hinder us from keeping our appointment with God. Do not allow anything to stop you. Keep your appointment you have the promise from God that He will meet with you. (James 4:8) Adore - Praise God for His attributes, such as holiness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness etc. Family and fellow believers, plus those
DAY FOUR Scripture reading Lev. 19:11-18; Romans 13:8-14 Adore - Praise God for His attributes, such as holiness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness etc. Sing, praise, or read one of the praise Psalms to the Lord. Confess your sins to God. (1John 1:7-9; Ps 32:1-4, Ps. 51) DEVOTIONAL TIP Have you noticed that under the confession part of the A.C.T.S. acronym the same scriptures are use every day? This is not because these are the only scriptures that promise forgiveness after confession. These are used every day to encourage memorizations. (Ps. 119:11) Thank God for your family, church and any blessing that comes to mind. Seek the Lord. Seek the Lord s grace on behalf of others. Family and fellow believers, plus those Record your thoughts How can you be more loving to your neighbor? Remember, these devotions are designed to help you obey the desire of God. How are you obeying the will of your Master? Write down how you walked in faith yesterday. Did the Lord help you? Part of loving your neighbor means sacrificial ministry. Ask the Lord to impress upon your heart some ministry that you can become involved in that helps while at the same time proclaims the gospel. Some examples are, AWANA, Sunday School, Outreach Visitation, Community Bible Study, Small Group Outreach there are multiple opportunities to minister and love your neighbor. Though it may be painful, write down some ways you have been selfish. List how you have been reluctant to serve and minister because it is inconvenient or interferes with your personal time.
DAY 5 Scripture Reading Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:8; Acts 4:29-31 Adore - Praise God for His attributes, such as holiness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness etc. Sing, praise, or read one of the praise Psalms to the Lord. Confess your sins to God. (1John 1:7-9; Ps 32:1-4, Ps. 51) Thank God for your family, church and any blessing that comes to mind. 99% OF CHRISTIANS NEVER SHARE CHRIST BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO TIMID OR AFRAID OF REJECTION. HOWEVER, WE CAN NOT ALLOW THIS TO KEEP US FROM SHARING CHRIST. THE PERSON WHO WORKS BESIDE YOU, GOES TO SCHOOL WITH YOU OR YOU KNOW WELL MAY TRULY WANT SOMEONE TO TELL THEM HOW TO BE SAVED. YOU ARE PROBABLY THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN REACH THEM. The above verses deal with witnessing or sharing the gospel. Many disciples are fearful of speaking about Christ to their friends. Did you notice that Jesus commanded the disciples to make disciples of all nations? Then He empowered them with supernatural power from on high. Finally, as they witnessed (Acts 4) the encountered opposition, yet when they prayed the place was shaken. Faithfully and obediently sharing Christ, even though we may be frightened or encountering opposition, shakes things up! Prayerfully and deliberately pick someone with which you can share the gospel. If you don t know how to share the gospel, simply ask them if you can read John 3:16 to them. Perhaps you can secure a gospel tract and give it to this person. Follow up and ask them if they read and understood the tract. Are you growing in faith as you meet with the Lord on a daily basis? Write down how you feel you are growing by keeping your daily appointment with Jesus Seek the Lord. Seek the Lord s grace on behalf of others. Family and fellow believers, plus those
DAY 6 Scripture Reading James 1:19-27; Matthew 7:24-27 Adore - Praise God for His attributes, such as holiness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness etc. Sing, praise, or read one of the praise Psalms to the Lord. Confess your sins to God. (1John 1:7-9; Ps 32:1-4, Ps. 51) DEVOTIONAL TIP Often in devotions we see the scripture passages and since they are familiar to us we don t bother re-reading them. This is a mistake. The Holy Spirit sheds new light on various nuances of meaning to our spirit as we read and re-read the living word of God. Don t hurry through the verses. Thank God for your family, church and any blessing that comes to mind. Seek the Lord. Seek the Lord s grace on behalf of others. Family and fellow believers, plus those
DAY SEVEN Scripture Reading Hebrews 10:19-25; Acts 2:42-47 Adore - Praise God for His attributes, such as holiness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness etc. Sing, praise, or read one of the praise Psalms to the Lord. Confess your sins to God. (1John 1:7-9; Ps 32:1-4, Ps. 51) Thank God for your family, church and any blessing that comes to mind. SUNDAY IS THE LORD S DAY YOU SHOULD ATTEND SUNDAY SCHOOL ON THE LORD S DAY. IN ADDITION, YOU SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO EXPRESSIONS FROM PEOPLE WHO NEED ENCOURAGEMENT AND PLAN WAYS THAT YOU CAN MINISTER TO THEM Seek the Lord. Seek the Lord s grace on behalf of others. Family and fellow believers, plus those Read your and study your Sunday School lesson. Write down way you can apply the lesson. Part of worshipping is giving; God loves a cheerful giver. Are you a giving cheerfully?
