COLOSSIANS Gratitude and Prayer 1:1 1:14 Things To Know (Doctrine) Things To Do (Practice) 1:15 3:4 3:5 4:6 4:7 Final Words and Greeting 4:18
Things To Know (Doctrine) 1. Christ Is Supreme and All-Sufficient He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. Colossians 1:17-18 (NIV84)
Things To Know (Doctrine) 2. Christ Has Brought Reconciliation This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. Colossians 1:21-22 (NLT)
Things To Know (Doctrine) 3. Christ Has Been Preached Powerfully By The Apostle So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. 29 That s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ s mighty power that works within me. Colossians 1:21-22 (NLT)
Things To Know (Doctrine) 4. Christ Has Been Preached Accurately I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. 3 In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments. Colossians 2:2-4 (NLT)
Things To Know (Doctrine) 5. Christ Has Been Presented as Sound Doctrine Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. Colossians 2:6-7 (NASB)
Sound Doctrine... Says NO to hollow and deceptive philosophy (2:8)... Says NO to legalism (2:16-17)... Says NO to mysticism (2:18-19)... Says NO to asceticism (2:20-23)
Summary: Things To Know Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2 (NIV84) Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. Colossians 3:1-2 (AMP)
COLOSSIANS Gratitude and Prayer 1:1 1:14 Things To Know (Doctrine) Things To Do (Practice) 1:15 3:4 3:5 4:6 4:7 Final Words and Greeting 4:18
Things To Do (Practice) Personally and individually (3:5-17) Inside and outside the home (3:18 4:11) Praying and witnessing (4:2-6)
Things To Do (Practice) Personally and Individually Colossians 3 Put Off (Rid Yourself) Put On (Clothe Yourself)
Put Off / Rid Yourself Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature... Colossians 3:5 (NIV84) So kill (deaden, deprive the power) the evil desire lurking in your members... Colossians 3:5 (AMP) So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you... Colossians 3:5 (NLT)
End Sexual Immorality So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. Colossians 3:5-7 (NLT)
End Angry Outbursts But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Colossians 3:8-9 (NLT)
Embrace Your New Nature Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. 11 In this new life, it doesn t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Colossians 3:10-11 (NLT)
What Clothes Do You Wear? Before Christ All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags... Isaiah 64:6a (NIV84) After Christ God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God... 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV84) So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Galatians 3:26-27 (NIV84)
