The class has a lecture and discussion format with no reading required! We have just taken a deep dive into Psalms 100 and 66, noting the imperatives that call us into worship and discussed how "thanksgiving" can be our sacrifice. While we continue to access the scripture and reformed theology through The Hiding Place, you do not have to have read the book or have kept up with where we are. Join us anytime! Upcoming topics include: types of prayer; the nature of evil; God's desire for relationship; and a look at Paul and his prison epistles. Please come, visit, and invite a friend or two! Join us for W.O.W. (Wonderful on Wednesday) on July 18th! 6 Endowment and Gift Acceptance Policies On April 16, 2018, our Session took two very important actions. The first was to adopt The Pineda Presbyterian Church of Melbourne, Incorporated, Endowment Fund (The Fund). The stated purposes of The Fund are five fold: 1) To encourage faithful Christian Stewardship; 2) to encourage the use of financial resources which we have received through God s grace to enhance the ministry and mission of Pineda Presbyterian Church; 3) to provide clear guidelines for the administration of the Endowment Fund; 4) to insure appropriate and adequate checks and balances; and 5) to provide protection from unnecessary risks and liabilities. The Fund is to be administered by an Endowment Team which will be comprised of five individuals who are elected by the Session, named by the Session, named by the Board of Deacons, or elected by the congregation. They will report to the Finance Team and congregation annually providing a record of gifts received, income/loss experienced, expenses incurred, and distributions made from The Fund. All financial assets held by The Fund will be managed through the Presbyterian Foundation s subsidiary New Covenant Trust Company. According to a specific formula, proceeds from The Fund will be made available to the Session for the express purposes of: 1) Enhancing our congregation s mission program; 2) enhancing our congregation s outreach to the community; 3) beginning new outreach programs to the community; and 4) enhancing our congregation s music program. There are provisions within The Fund outlining the steps required to amend The Fund. There are also provisions within The Fund giving guidance in the event Pineda Presbyterian Church is to be dissolved, or in some way combined with another congregation. The acceptance of gifts by The Fund (as well as other gifts made to the church) will be governed by The Pineda Presbyterian Church of Melbourne, Incorporated, Gift Acceptance Policy (The Gift Acceptance Policy). The adoption of The Gift Acceptance Policy was the second important action taken by the Session on April 16, (Continued on next page.)

(Endowment & Gift Acceptance Policies continued) In a nutshell, The Gift Acceptance Policy outlines procedures for the acceptance or rejection of financial or tangible gifts, and addresses the procedures for the handling of specific types of gifts. Both The Fund and The Gift Acceptance Policy are instruments the congregation has asked to be established. Many thanks to those who were charged with bringing proposals to the Session, and to the congregation for the foresight to think of a new way our members and friends can provide for the future ministry and mission of Pineda Presbyterian Church. If you would like a paper or digital copy of these two documents, simply make your request to the church office. Peace & Joy... Pastor David Keep Brevard Beautiful! Join us for Beach Clean-up on Saturday, July 21st at 8:30 a.m. at Seagull Park in Satellite Beach. Followed by breakfast! Pictured from left: Joyce Arey, Mike Mathewson, Sue Lundgren, Laird Arey, Sue Giddings, Pastor Jim Moran, Brenda & Steve Weston & Al Giddings

Pastor s Pondering My friends, If the Summer doldrums and heat have sapped your strength, I encourage you to be renewed in worship at 10 a.m. The body of Christ s being together to glorify God renews my strength, and I am sure will renew your strength, too. I believe our worship together, the center of our life as Christ s body, sustains us in all of our ministry. Our first two Sundays in July, the sermons will draw from 2 Corinthians 8:7-15, as we share the body and cup of Jesus, and 2 Corinthians 12:1-10, where we conclude Paul s theology on the grace of God that sustains us. Please don t forget our church picnic on July 1. By the middle of the month, we will begin focusing on the Gospels of Mark and then John. These stories of Jesus and his disciples are both important and interesting to me since they give us a glimpse into who Jesus is through the eyes of the early followers who knew Him best. We will read two stories from Mark 6 and then begin several weeks in John 6. So, if you would, please read at least Mark 6 by the middle of the month (more of Mark, if you like!). Mark 6:14-29, a story also told in Matthew 14:1-12 and briefly referenced in Luke 9:7-9, is the long tale (especially for Mark) of King Herod s having beheaded John the Baptist on the whim of his wife, Herodias, who had been married to Herod s brother Philip. Immediately before the tale of King Herod and John the Baptist, the Gospel writer Mark told about Jesus sending out the twelve disciples two by two and giving them authority over the unclean spirits (6:7-13). Jesus instructed them on what to take, how to travel, and what to say. Then in the interlude between the disciples being sent out on and returning from their mission trip, Mark told the tragic, sad story of the death of John the Baptist. Other than this tragic story s filling the time between sending and returning, why does Mark tell and stretch out this sad story? Could it be to remind the early church and us the risk of being sent out? Did Mark also want to emphasize the real possibility of being rejected, the risk of shaking the dirt off one s feet as a disciple, and the danger of speaking truth in the face of Caesar? The question I ask today is, Do I risk rejection, inhospitality, or anything in my being sent out into this world as a disciple of Jesus? Is there any danger today in the world for those who are faithful followers of Jesus Christ? Then, if there is not, we may wonder if there should be any danger or any risk at all. I believe if we take to heart the ministry of Jesus, his confronting the religious establishment and authorities and his call to repent (to change mind, or to turn around), there may be great risks socially for us as faithful Christians. Quite possibly, it is during the interludes in our lives between our hour of worship each week that say whether we are truly a disciple of Jesus Christ or not. What will we report when we return home and gather around Jesus? I send you the joy and love of our Lord Jesus,

Wednesday Night Bible Study kicks off in September! 6:00 - Fellowship / Desserts / Prayer 6:30 - Bible Study (usually lasts an hour) Make plans now to participate in our Wednesday Night Bible Study to examine scripture, fellowship and pray. This is especially important to the continuing faith formation of our body of Christ at Pineda PC. This semester's selection is The Book of Revelation: Visions for the Church in Crisis. The study will be informative and presented in sections that are easy to understand. We will learn about the settings of the "seven churches on earth", discuss the "setting in Heaven", spend some time with the "seven seals" and "seven bowls", contemplate the "final fall of Babylon", and look forward to "all things new". If you have never understood the Book of Revelation, or found it daunting or too wrapped in symbolism, then this Bible Study is for you! Come and explore the excitement that looms inside Revelation -- you will not be disappointed! Register for your book in the Fellowship Hall, or call the Church Office. This is a perfect time (and entry point) to invite family members and friends into the fellowship of our loving and faithbuilding Pineda PC congregation. Mark your calendars to join us for our second Mission Connection Sunday on July 22nd! Our Guest speaker will be announced soon! Please bring your potluck dish to the kitchen before worship and we will all enjoy lunch together after the service!

We are a caring and compassionate Christ-centered faith community, living out our growing understanding of God s Word and love as we seek to connect with our world and one another.
