CHALLENGING: NHL s program of study is very challenging and requires each student to seek the Lord for guidance in the study of the Word of God. Counselors are available to help you make the right decision toward your education. Status reports are used, and each student is always aware of what he or she should be doing. RESPECTED: NHL began in 1996 and has since grown from a few students locally to students all over the Washington Metropolitan area. 7 Welcome from the President I am proud to welcome you to New Hope And Life School of Religion Theology & Seminary aka NHL Christian Leadership Institute. Our school is built on the inspired word of God. We trust that you will find the Will of the Lord for your life. Our faculty and staff are ready to assist you in meeting the academic goals that you have set to accomplish. We believe in the flow and movement of the Holy Spirit in our teaching. Yarah is the principle of our classes, it means to teach like rain, and we believe in rain falling in our professors and our students. The Holy Spirit will lead and guide you in the days ahead. Look forward to a life changing experience. Learn how to hear the voice of God, and gain a greater understanding of His will for your life. Let the word of God come alive in you, that you may serve the body of Christ with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Allow the gifts of the Holy Spirit broaden your approach to ministry. As in the words of Proverbs 9:9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. NHL has served the Christian Community for over 17 years. Christian education has been at the forefront of our service and we take great pride in the work we have accomplished. Although our work has been rewarding, we still have a few issues that have been a concern to our students on the issue of accreditation. New Hope and Life School of Religion Theology & Seminary aka NHL Christian Leadership Institute is a religious educational institution operating in the State of Maryland pursuant to an exemption granted by The Maryland Higher Education Commission, without a certificate of approval from the Commission, as specified in the Code of Maryland Regulations 13B (1) A religious educational institution certifies, in accordance with procedures established by the Commission, that it: (a) Is founded and operated by a church or other religious institution or organization of churches or religious institutions as an integral part of the religious ministry of that institution or organization; 7

(b) Offers sectarian instruction only designed for and aimed at persons who hold or seek to learn particular religious faiths or beliefs of religious institutions or religious organizations, and provides only educational programs for religious vocations; and (c) States on the certificate or diploma the religious nature of the award; or (2) A church or other religious institution offers a postsecondary instructional program leading to a certificate or diploma, only if the program is designed for and aimed at persons who hold or seek to learn the particular religious faith or beliefs of that church or religious institution and provides only educational programs for religious purposes. B. An institution that applies for exemption and that, at the time of application, does not hold a certificate of approval from the Commission may not operate, do business, or offer instruction unless and until the Commission grants the institution an exemption under this chapter. No, NHL is not Howard University, or Princeton, nor is it Harvard; however, we have met the necessary requirement to be a Degree-Granting Institution to serve the Christian Community. I am reminded of the Legacy of Mary McLeod Bethune, a woman who knew that education was important to her people and sacrificed everything to give an opportunity that would not have been possible without her dedication and commitment. Professor Bethune took chard wood to make pencils, elderberries to make ink, just so her students could write. She sold pies and fish dinners, searched through a dump to find pieces of furniture or dishes so that should could have a class room that was usable. Because of her dedication, today many have attended and graduated from the Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach Florida. I m also reminded of Jennie Dean, the founder of Manassas Industrial School. Dean was a matriarchal figure to her community and she worried for the large number of African- Americans who were migrating to the urban centers of the country. She saw many go to the city slums and alleys, she knew of the hopelessness of their fate when they remained at home. Dean believed that the migration of the cities was causing an entire generation to become tied to the low paying and poor working conditions, of factory life in the turn of the century period. Dean saw that many young people were being exposed to the more distasteful elements of urban life, namely drinking and other social evils that were limitations upon the spiritual growth of the youngsters. Dean believed that the school was a remedy to illiteracy and the lack of skills needed to obtain jobs and continued education. I believe in the spiritual growth of God s people. In many ways, the Church has fallen short, but we have an opportunity to build again. It s faith in action. NHL Christian Leadership Institute must stand on the principles of those who have gone on before us. Let us be determined that as we grow to know the Word of God, we can make a difference in our homes, and in the Church Community. We can do this together! Dr. Claudine Head, President 8

Our Foundation Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:9 New Hope And Life School of Religion Theology & Seminary aka NHL Christian Leadership Institute is a vision of Drs. Dana C. & Claudine Head in New Hope And Life School of Religion Theology & Seminary aka NHL Christian Leadership Institute is a religious educational institution operating in the State of Maryland pursuant to an exemption granted by the Maryland Higher Education Commission, without a certificate of approval from the Commission, as specified in the Code of Maryland regulations 13B as a degree granting institution. NHL is founded on the principle of the Word of God. The Commission to the Church is stated by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all tings whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. AMEN. Christ gave to the Church men and women to fulfill the commission of this world, the commission to bring all those who love Him to the unity of the faith. Our Foundation is to fulfill our duties outlined in Ephesians 4: 11-16: vs. 11. And He gave some, apostles, and some, prophets, and some, evangelists; and some, pastors, and some teachers, vs12. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: vs13. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: vs14. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; vs15. But speaking the truth in love may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: vs16. From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplied, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, make increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. The Apostle Paul knew that knowledge was a powerful source, but Jesus knew that the Holy Spirit would allow the mind of man to store, retain, call upon and visibly see, the understanding of wisdom, faith, love, joy and peace-to build a better life for mankind. Our Foundation is to continue and do the works already set out by Jesus Christ. 10

The Plan Our Mission To provide innovative methods for students to reach their education goals. Our Core Values Integrity Compassion Faithfulness Non-discriminatory Policy To Students New Hope And Life School of Religion & Seminary aka NHL Christian Leadership Institute, admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally afford or made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the bases of race, color, national, and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other schooladministered programs. School Scriptures Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 Give instructions to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:9 Clinical Schedules: These are designed on an individual basis. In most instances, clinical objectives may be achieved in the student s own work or ministry setting. Each instructor or faculty member will assist the student in planning experiences in their own setting to meet the clinical course objectives. Time vary for each clinical course in the chosen program of study based on the level of the student s program. This institution offers each student the opportunity to meet educational goals in a flexible learning environment. A variety of teaching strategies are used to assist the student in the application of theory to clinical and practical situations. Communicating With the School The student is free to call the school at any time. If no one is available, please leave a message and someone will contact the student as soon as possible. If at any time there is inclement weather, a message will be left at the school to notify students of all school closings. 11

Statement of Faith We Believe: 1. In the verbal inspiration of the Bible. 2. In one God, eternally existing in three persons; namely the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 3. That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried and bodily rose from the dead, and that He ascended to heaven and is today at the right had of the Father as the Intercessor. 4. That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and repentance is commanded by God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sin. 5. That justification, regeneration and the new birth are wrought through faith in the blood of Christ. 6. In progressive sanctification, after the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ, through the Word and by the Holy Spirit. 7. Holiness to be God s standard of living for His people. Not as a denomination but as a way of life. 8. In the baptism with Holy Spirit after a clean heart. 9. In the baptism with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, and that this is the initial evidence of baptism of the Holy Spirit. 10. In water baptism by immersion and that all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and of the Holy Ghost and in the name of Jesus Christ. 11. Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement. 12. In the Lord s Supper and washing of the saint s feet. 13. In the pre-millennial second coming of Jesus, first to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air; second, to reign on the earth for a thousand years. 14. In the bodily resurrection, eternal life for the righteous and eternal punishment for the wicked. 12

Acceptance of Credits or Degrees No college can guarantee the acceptance of credits or degrees since each student is evaluated and then accepted or denied based upon a number of individual factors. For instance, courses in theology would not normally be applied towards a degree in physical education; therefore, those credits, even if they were from a regionally accredited college, would not be transferable. Other factors that influence the acceptance of credits or degrees include the grade point average, entrance exam score, the degree major, and ability to pay, etc. In a 1978 study, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services documented acceptance of non-traditional or non-traditionally accredited programs. Of the thousands surveyed, 97% were admitted to the traditional graduate school of their choice; 94% experienced no problems in graduate school admission because of having an unaccredited degree; and 99% of the holders of non-traditional degrees felt that their degree was as good as, or better than a traditional degree. In addition to this, a survey of the top personnel officers at 81 large corporations indicated that they felt a non-traditional degree was just as useful as one from a traditional school with a strong reputation. As the report stated, these finds run counter to some popular beliefs. (Source: Sosdian, Carol P and Laure M. Sharp, The External Degree as Credential: Graduate s Experiences in Employment and Further Study; Washington, DC, U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, 1978) In accordance with the Maryland Board of Higher Education Commission, each student must be presented with an Enrollment Disclosure Form. BIB310 Principles of the Kingdom This course will help define what the Gospel of the Kingdom is, and how we can live in the principles and attitudes of the Kingdom more fully. We will be examining the Sermon on the Mount, which has been called the Manifesto of the King. We will take a verse-by-verse examination of this to see how we should be developing in character as its citizens, and what the relationship of the Kingdom of Heaven is to the world BIB377 Romans An in-depth study of the teaching of the Apostle Paul concerning sin, justification, and the sanctifying work of the cross in the life of the believer. Special emphasis will be given to a study of how the power of sin is broken in the Christian's life. BIB382 Pastoral Epistles A study of biblical principles and qualifications for leadership as found in I and II Timothy, Titus and Philemon, and how to apply them. Other biblical doctrines discovered therein will also be discussed. BUS201 Business Is Ministry For too long the clear majority of Christians have accepted the lie that there are those few who are called to full-time Christian service, by which is usually meant pastoring a church or being a full-time foreign missionary, and the laity who work in secular jobs to support the ministry. Working in the world has been considered second-class Christianity and not necessarily a calling from God. Certainly, the anointing of God had no place in the inherently evil world of business. This course will explode these myths, showing you how business in itself can bring glory to God, and how the Holy Spirit wants to anoint you to influence the marketplace and change the world. COU203 Cornerstones of Communication Communication is the center of all relationships, yet most of us are untaught on the dynamics of great communication skills. This course will teach you these skills. With practice, every relationship you enter will be much more effective, including relationships with your spouse and children. Give yourself the gift of outstanding communication skills. BIB110 Mastering the Word of God In this course, you will learn how to take God's Word into your life - basic ways to read, study, memorize and meditate on God's Word by actually doing all of these things, including an indepth study of one of the smaller books of the New Testament. You will develop life-long goals and plans of mastering the Bible and letting it master you. You will also learn how to lead a Bible study group and gain experience doing that. BIB375 Gospel of John An in-depth study of the life of Jesus Christ as portrayed by the beloved disciple. Students will study the seven signs John gives proving the divinity of Christ. The life of abiding in spiritual awareness will be examined. BIB380 Ephesians & Colossians These twin letters will be covered at a rate of one chapter per week. We will study the greatness of Christ within us and His outworking through our lives. BIB390 Biblical Research Methods Generally, the student will take this course during his third year, near the completion of the core courses. In it he will be asked to do a complete Scriptural study, discovering what the Bible has to say about the vocation/ministry he is planning to enter. This will give him a biblical worldview. The student will be trained to do original Bible study utilizing the Greek and Hebrew, by learning to use an Interlinear Greek-English New Testament, a complete concordance, a Bible dictionary, a Greek lexicon, a study Bible, and an expository dictionary. No previous knowledge of Greek or Hebrew is required. COU202 Counseled by God God's Spirit is a "Wonderful Counselor". We will let God speak to our hearts and counsel us about the basic emotional pressures of life. These include anger, doubt, depression, condemnation and inferiority. We will learn to let God replace these with His opposites, as His voice releases His grace within our hearts. Those whom the Son sets free are free indeed. COU301 Prayers That Heal the Heart 4 credits This course teaches a series of seven specific prayers that will break bondages within your heart caused by spiritual forces. These prayers include breaking generational sins and curses; severing ungodly soul ties; removing negative beliefs and inner vows; healing traumatic scenes; and casting out demonic energy that has connected itself to these inner wounds of the heart and soul. The entire healing process is sealed by doing an intensive meditation on biblical passages that bear on the issues being healed so God can grant you illumined insights from His Word. 31

EVA210 Personal Evangelism This course is a study of practical approaches to personal evangelism. It includes learning how to initiate the conversation with someone, present the Gospel to him, and lead him to Christ, if he is ready. It includes spending thirty hours in actual, practical, personal evangelism. HEA102 Take Charge of Your Health The Bible Way We have a covenant of health with our God, which is based on four prerequisites (Ex. 15:26). One of these is to keep all His statutes. In this course, we will learn the statutes of God which will keep us from cancer and the other "Black Plagues" of our century. We need not die prematurely if we become responsible by keeping God's simple health commands. HEA315 God's Provision for Healing Learn how to receive and minister God's healing power. This course lays a solid Word foundation that will release faith for effectively receiving or ministering healing. Presents the ministry of Jesus and the apostles as a pattern for healing today. INT301 Prophetic Intercession In this class you will study about the wedding between compassion, the prophetic spirit, and intercession. Subjects include: entering into the intercession of Christ, compassion, tears in His bottle, prophetic intercession, hearing God's voice, travail, and the intercessory sounds of deliverance. INT502 Strategies and Models of Prayer 4 credits Whether you have been an intercessor for years or are just beginning to explore this exciting topic, you will be instructed and inspired by this course. You will be exposed to many different methodologies for organizing and engaging in intercessory prayer, as well as exploring the many facets of the Hebrew word paga and how each nuance teaches us something about intercession. LEA321 Visionary Leadership Jesus' leadership approach with His "staff" ran counter to most of the management styles and techniques employed today. In this course, you will explore the three categories of strengths behind Jesus' leadership techniques: the strength of selfmastery, the strength of action, and the strength of relationships. You will learn a plan to heighten your awareness level in each category and to assist you in the process of mastering them all, which is necessary for you to become an empowered leader in this millennium. LEA103 Gifted to Succeed " To each of us grace has been given according to the measure of Christ's gift...and He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers for the equipping of the saints." Do you know which of these heart motivations God has given to you? Is God asking you to express this heart motivation within or outside the structured church, or both? Which ministry or vocation is He asking you to express yourself through? What kinds of people do you need next to you to make you most effective? These GOV202 Constitution and Constitutional Law You will learn what the Framers of the Constitution really intended by studying their own words and writings. You will also examine the Constitution itself, and the history surrounding its adoption. Finally, you will look at Court cases and see how accurately recent Courts have been interpreting the Constitution in their far-reaching decisions. HEA201 Authority of the Believer How to quit losing and start winning. The Creator revealed His eternal purpose for mankind when He said, "Let them have dominion!" You will walk in a new boldness as you live in victory over Satan and demon powers in your daily life and ministry. INT201 Introduction to Intercession This course introduces you into the Life of Intercession. Subjects include: the task of intercession, pleading your case, identification in intercession and prophetic intercession INT302 Strategies and Models of Prayer 4 credits Whether you have been an intercessor for years or are just beginning to explore this exciting topic, you will be instructed and inspired by this course. You will be exposed to many different methodologies for organizing and engaging in intercessory prayer, as well as exploring the many facets of the Hebrew word paga and how each nuance teaches us something about intercession. LEA303 Developing the Leader Within This course is designed to help you develop the attitudes, skills and character traits you will need to become the leader God has called you to be. You may need to establish new patterns of thought and action, and break old habits that have been keeping you back. If you truly devote yourself to the requirements of this course, you will be a more effective and successful leader at the end of it. MIN210 Five-Fold Ministry Gifts An examination of the ministry gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. Jesus gave gifts to men. Discover how these gifts function together in the church "to prepare God's people for works of service". This study will help many understand God's call on their lives. MIN211 Building Dynamic Teams 1 credit "...they ordained them elders in every church " (Acts 14:23). Biblical precedent indicates that local churches were governed by a team of elders. God never let the ruler ship of the body rest on the shoulders of one man, knowing that each of us has weaknesses and limitations, and that no one man can completely represent full truth, wisdom and power as Jesus did. This course will help local church leadership function more effectively as a team, honoring the gifts of all. Prerequisites: LEA103 Gifted to Succeed (required); MIN210 Five-Fold 32
