4 SESSION DESCRIPTIONS Wednesday, January 31, :30-8:45 am Welcome, Conference Overview Jim Tino, ALMA President; Christy Weber, Conference Chair Introductions of ALMA Board, Conference Committee Recognition of Conference Sponsors and Exhibitors 8:45-9:05 am Opening Devotion Rev. Bill Ney, ALMA 2 nd VP and LAMP Ministries 9:05-9:30 am The Changing Face of Missions Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Gray, Jr., LCMS Black Ministry The Missio Dei, Mission of God, has always been to the nations, from Abraham to Jesus. God has sought to bring the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve back into his kingdom. Often the mission of God has found itself among the nations to be homogeneous, to its own ethnic groups; God seeks panta ta ethne to all the nations", a heterogeneous kingdom. The Changing Face of Missions must be to panta ta ethne as the nations have come to America and are all over the world. Like the Apostle Paul, our task is to preach the Gospel and empower the nations to serve their communities in Witness, Mercy, Life Together - In Christ, for the Church and the World. 9:30-10:40 and 11:00-12:10 am The World Café: Shaping Our Futures Through Conversations that Matter (with Networking Coffee Break 10:40-11:00) Sponsored by Three Avocados Coffee Based on the understanding that conversation is the core process that drives personal, business, and organizational life, the World Café is more than a method or process it s a way of thinking and being together sourced in a philosophy of conversational leadership. And an interactive, fast-paced, speed-dating series of structured networking conversations. 12:15-1:45 pm Networking Lunch: Why the World Needs Lutheran Missions Rev. Matthew Heise, Lutheran Heritage Foundation Sponsored by Lutheran Church Extension Fund Given the plethora of religions in the world today, it is imperative that Lutherans provide a Law and Gospel based witness to our Christian faith. We will explore how that witness is being accomplished around the world. Continuing Collaboration, Coordination, Cooperation, and Communication for Mission Rev. John Fale, Executive Director, LCMS OIM Sponsored by LCMS Office of International Mission This session will be an update on conversations to collaborate, coordinate, cooperate, and communicate. 1:55-2:55 pm Topical Discussions (Structured Networking) Key topics taken from the World Café will be explored further, with discussion focused toward ongoing conversations in ALMA s new online community hosted in its new software platform. 2:55-3:15 pm Summary of World Café and Topical Discussion Insights What insights and discoveries resulted from the World Café and Topical Discussion sessions? But are you wanting to figure out how to you can truly harness the power of Social Media and make real connections with people online? Come hear how THRED navigates the ins and outs of various platforms in order to drive conversations about life, faith and Jesus with non-christians, and how that can influence and impact your ministries back home. 4:45-5:30 pm Free Time! 5:30-6:30 pm Wine, Beer, and Cheese Reception Entertainment by CFNA Nepalese Choir Enjoy good food and beverages, socialize with friends old and new, and network with other mission agency leaders and Conference Exhibitors. 6:30-8:00 pm Networking Banquet & Silent Auction Sponsored by Lutheran Legacy Foundation Jim Tino, ALMA President, and Jerry Klug, President, LLF More good food and good company!
