3 Sharing the Gospel I am so thankful for The Bible Study Hour and Dr. Barnhouse & the Bible. I found myself in need of deep fundamental Bible teaching which was seriously lacking in my own life. One night I was flipping through my radio dial and came across Dr. Barnhouse. I felt like I found a friend who faithfully taught the scriptures and didn t pick and choose which texts to teach. I began listening to Dr. Boice too. They have both been a huge blessing to me and my understanding of the Bible. It has been difficult for a young guy (mid 20 s) in liberal San Francisco Bay area to find true Bible teaching. For the first time when I began listening to Dr. Barnhouse, I got the whole story. 4 Proclaiming Biblical Doctrine Forty-five years ago the first Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology was held. Its purpose according to Dr. Boice was three-fold: Awaken interest in biblical theology and the doctrines of grace Establish a forum at which men and women in the Reformed tradition might meet and be encouraged Marshall resources to strengthen the Church The conference was awesome! I learned so much, had so many questions answered, and was challenged to think more deeply about my theology. Susie Since that time, tens of thousands of Alliance members, as well as noted pastors and teachers, have been gathered around the country to study and be encouraged by God s Word. The Church will only grow stronger as we know the Word of God and proclaim it to our contemporaries. Your support of the events produces resources that are used for years to come books, audio, videos that challenge believers around the globe. 5 Engaging the Culture It is getting harder for Christians to engage the culture. The world wants Christians to call evil good. And we are shocked when the Church sometimes doesn t look much different than the world. Your support of the Alliance engages the culture both inside and outside the Church, and provides content that is helpful, edifying, and convicting. Same sex marriage, patriarchy, sanctity of life, abuse in the church, diversity, qualifications of an elder, social justice, and bad doctrine our sites do not shy away from the tough topics. You are standing for truth providing for thoughtful discussion that informs and is truly helpful for understanding what plagues our culture today and most importantly how to address those issues biblically. More than that, your support helps brothers and sisters grow in their Christian life, inspiring them to read and think deeply on theological issues resulting in a fuller understanding of God. [MoS] provides a much needed corrective against bombastic culture warriors, slick celebrity pastors, megachurch madness, and doctrinally-shallow sentimentalism which all infect much of what passes for Christianity in America and the West. 6 Equipping the Church As a young woman just starting out in my career, I was disheartened not to be able to find a Bible-believing church when I moved to the city. I didn t feel equipped to defend my faith against the unbelieving pastors I was finding in the local churches. The teaching found on The Bible Study Hour and at the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology were a lifeline to me. I just want to thank you for The Bible Study Hour. [It has] strengthened my faith and understanding of the Bible and have kept me company through the endless miles of highway I drive every day, months at a time. Jamie N. I am retired now, and I still use the resources produced by the Alliance. I started a study group in my building using Dr. Boice s Think and Act Biblically devotional. The group includes non-christians and they keep coming back! 7 If Christians are to have any impact on the world, they must think and act biblically! As an Alliance member you provide sound, biblical teaching through broadcasting, events, and publishing. You are sharing the Gospel, providing the opportunity for the Holy Spirit to change minds, touch hearts, and bring change to believers and nonbelievers alike. We are grateful for your partnership and need your continued support. We look forward to the year ahead. We are excited for the work God has planned for the Alliance the transformative discipleship and teaching found on the broadcasts, at the events, and in all that is published.
