Page 1 It s All about Jesus 1Pe 1:10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace [that would come] to you, 1Pe 1:11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 1Pe 1:12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us [fn] they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things which angels desire to look into. 1Pe 1:10 Of this salvation 1 Peter 1:8b -9 - Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith the salvation of your souls. That is quite a claim Peter - the salvation of a soul - where does your confidence, assurance - come from - can you offer up some proof - something to back up your claim? the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace [that would come] to you, 1Pe 1:11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. This is a distinction compared to all other religious text - only the bible dares to foretell the future - prophecy as part of its writing Prophets - leaders - men who God raised up - inspired by the Holy Spirit and gave him words to speak and write down. They spoke for God - they spoke by revelation - not speculation (human attempt) or imagination - Revelation is God breaking into human history and telling us who he is. who prophesied of the grace [that would come] to you, They prophesied about the Grace of God - a primary theme of the scriptures -... the prophets have inquired and searched carefully searching what, or what manner of time, - exert considerable effort and care in learning - search diligently for something, especially for something hidden like miners engaged in digging for precious metals search, examine, investigate, inquire, find out.

2 Peter 1:10-12! Page 2 the Spirit of Christ who was in them - the Holy Spirit They communicated perfectly - the only perfect thing on earth today is the Bible. He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. The Holy Spirit predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories The whole Bible is about Jesus - sufferings, (betrayal - execution, crucifixion, burial), and his glories - (resurrection, victory, and ascension back into Glory or Heaven) OT is unlike any other set of books - The scriptures in general are different than any other book that has ever been written or will ever be written - these are 66 books that God wrote. Human authors Yes - but God wrote the scriptures through men - they wrote things they could not have known apart from God - God alone knows the future and has the ability to bring it to pass. The Bible is about three things - Salvation - by Grace - accomplished according to God s plan Through sufferings and glories of Jesus Christ. Peter says God wrote this book. God wrote a book, Jesus is the hero - our savior - we who trust in Christ are the recipients of the Salvation Jesus offers to the WORLD. The doctrine of the Scripture is the things the prophets and the apostles said are actually the words of the Spirit of God. God has given you the ability to reason and think - Come to your own conclusions - think for yourselves - take the time to figure this out on your own - don t just embrace another persons opinions - What do you think? The OT prophecies are evidence that the bible is written by God - only God has the capacity to know the future and make it come to pass. 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ Isa 7:14 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. [fn] 700 years before Jesus Birth Mic 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, [Though] you are little among the thousands of Judah, [Yet] out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth [are] from of old, From everlasting." Malachi 3:1-300 or 400 years Mal 3:1 "Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming," Says the LORD of hosts.

In the Temple - Temple was destroyed in 70 AD Isa 35: yrs before Jesus Isa 35:5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Isa 35:6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert. Jesus was a healer - healed the at least 6 blind men - 1 deaf - 2 men get up and walk - 2 dumb - as well as raising two from the dead, and other issues, lepers Zechariah 11: years before Jesus Zec 11:12 Then I said to them, "If it is agreeable to you, give [me] my wages; and if not, refrain." So they weighed out for my wages thirty [pieces] of silver. Zec 11:13 And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter"--that princely price they set on me. So I took the thirty [pieces] of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD for the potter. Matt 27:6-7 Fulfilled Mat 27:6 But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood." Mat 27:7 And they consulted together and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. Psa 22: years before birth of Jesus Psa 22:16 For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced [fn] My hands and My feet; Crucifixion did not yet exist - not for a few hundred years Prophecies the invention and the application to Jesus Isa 53: years before Jesus(often called the 5th Gospel) Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isa 53:7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. Isa 53:9 And they [fn] made His grave with the wicked--but with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor [was any] deceit in His mouth. Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put [Him] to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see [His] seed, He shall prolong [His] days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. Isa 53:11 He shall see the labor of His soul, [fn] [and] be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.

4 Peter 1:10-12! Page 4 If this isn t Jesus then who is it? It is all Jesus. This is amazing - God wrote 66 books - called The Bible - who else was born of a virgin in Bethlehem - heralded by John the baptist - showed up at the temple cleaned house and called it his father s house - predicted it would be destroyed - cried over it - healed blind, lame, deaf, dumb, was betrayed for 30 pieces of silver- which was used to buy a potters field - was willingly crucified to bear the our iniquities, so we could be declared righteous in Heaven and have our souls saved! JESUS! So many people resist - avoid - the scriptures because they think they know what the Bible is about, and they don t! The Bible is not about you it is about the one Good Guy - Jesus and that He is Good News. The one Good Guy - the bad people killed. This book is not about you. The hero of this book is not you, it is not how to fix your life, it is not how to do better - it is not about trying harder - it is not about meriting God s favor - and love - It is all about Jesus. He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow We are saved by the suffering and glories of Christ already proclaimed in the OT Matt 5:17-18 Mat 5:17 "Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. Mat 5:18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God's law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. Jhn 5:37 And the Father who sent me has testified about me himself. You have never heard his voice or seen him face to face, Jhn 5:38 and you do not have his message in your hearts, because you do not believe me the one he sent to you. Jhn 5:39 "You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! You can memorize the whole book and miss the point. The Main character of the 66 books is Jesus Learn to Read everything as if it s about the sufferings and glory of Jesus. The gospel is contained in the OT in a thousand different ways like a glorious kaleidoscope. the new is in the old contained the old is in the new explained Start reading the Bible systematically and comprehensively, and say, Is it all about Jesus? Remember in Luke 24 - resurrected Jesus shows up on the road toe Emmaus - meets two men - talking about the resurrection - don t get it.

5 Peter 1:10-12! Page 5 Luk 24:25 Then Jesus said to them, "You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures. You can memorize the whole book and miss the point. Love for Jesus is the point - You don t love Jesus - you don t know the book. Luk 24:26 Wasn't it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering his glory?" Luk 24:27 Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. Most Amazing Bible Study Ever- I would like to hear that one in Heaven - hear as much of it as I can now. Its all about Jesus - even the OT. Some people have rejected the Bible because they have only heard about it through the mouths of the academic, opinionated, journalistic, or religious perspective, not as one who has a living Hope in a Living Lord - Jesus - They make it sound as if they are better, holier, or smarter than others. There is one Good guy - one hero - one savior - we are humbled - because a saved person is one who was hopeless and now has Hope. Illustration - CG Helicopter ride to the beach. The OT is full of appearances of Jesus Christ before he puts on human flesh and is born in a manger in Bethlehem. Christophonies - cameo appearances Walking with Abraham - wrestling with Jacob - appearing to Moses - joining Shad, Mesh, & Abed in the fiery furnace - calling Isaiah into the ministry - other times there are appearance of the Angel of the LORD - sometimes identified as God - provided the sacrifice to take Isaacs place - spoke and journeyed with Moses In the OT there are Types of Jesus - figures- pictures - institutions, or events that point to Jesus - the priesthood which pre-figured Jesus as our great high priest - David and other Kings - who prefigured Jesus as the King of Kings - Moses the deliver/redeemer - Jesus the great deliverer and redeemer - prophets - THE PROPHET Sacrifices - burnt offering - peace offering - sin offering - passover Lamb - Jesus was the Lamb of God who takes away sin and death Tabernacle/Temple - God dwelling with us. Shepherds watching over sheep - Jesus is the chief shepherd Jesus is the Last Adam and passed His test in the Garden - and passes on to us the Gift of His righteousness - Adam failed and passes on to us sin, which leads to unrighteousness. Jesus is the true and better Able, who was slain, innocent, Abel s blood cries out guilty - Jesus blood cries out acquitted.

6 Peter 1:10-12! Page 6 Jesus is the greater than Abraham left his Fathers Home - Jesus likewise did the same thing when He left Heaven. Jesus is the greater than Isaac carried his own wood to Mt. Moriah - Jesus did the same thing when He carried His cross as far as he could to Calvary. Jesus is the greater than Israel (governed by God) -did only what the Father told him to do and say - and even after his wrestle in the Garden and at the cross - though permanently scarred - Jesus was blessed with a Bride - you and I who trust in Him. Jesus is the greater than Joseph who sits at the right hand of God the Father, and everything has been given to Him. Offers forgiveness and provision to those who have betrayed Him. And uses His power to saves us in loving reconciliation. Jesus is the greater than Moses who gave us the old covenant - Jesus is the mediator of a new covenant of grace and truth. Jesus is the greater than Job innocent, suffered, and tormented by the devil - friends were of no help - faithful and gave God glory - Jesus Jesus is a King greater than David against Goliath - who has slain sin, death, and the power of Hell. Jesus is greater than Jonah - spent three days in the grave and rose again on the third day. To save a multitude Jesus is the greater than Boaz redeemed a gentile Ruth - He brought near the undeserving - Jesus brings those who were once afar off, near - into the Kingdom of God. Redeem a Bride from all the nations of the earth. Jesus is the greater than Nehemiah - rebuilding Jerusalem - Jesus is preparing for us in Heaven a New Jerusalem. Jesus is the greater than Hosea who married a prostitute who had a hard time getting out of the business - He continued to pursue and Love - Jesus does the same for His unfaithful Bride the church - never stops loving her - pursuing her - wanting her close - with Him all the time. Jesus is the object of faith - not a system - not a set of doctrines per say - but a savior Jesus. What ever you do - be a lover of Jesus and believe the Bible, because it is all about Jesus. 1Pe 1:12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us [fn] they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things which angels desire to look into. This speaks of the NT doctrine of Revelation - progressive uncovering by God to man but to us is us.

7 Peter 1:10-12! Page 7 The New testament has Apostles instead of Prophets. God the Holy Spirit - wrote the NT - through the Apostles. OT Prophets and NT Apostles - worked together - testifying together about Jesus - writers of the NT were eyewitness - or Luke, interviewed eyewitnesses. 2Pe 1:16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 2Pe 1:17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." 2Pe 1:18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. Peter was an eye witness - The men who represented Law and Prophets showed up in the mountain, then I heard God the Father - I think we have the right God. The Bible is God s word - it is perfect and true - It is the highest authority and we submit to it. 2Ti 3:16 All Scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 2Ti 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. God breathed - Same Holy Spirit than enabled Jesus to Live a sinless life and rise from the dead is the same Spirit that enabled the Prophets and Apostles to write inerrant scripture. 2Pe 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, [fn] 2Pe 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God [fn] spoke [as they were] moved by the Holy Spirit. Bible is not filled with interpretations of God by men - it is God s interpretation of Himself. continuing in vs 12 they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit The gospel is a report. What does a reporter do? Report - the gospel, primarily, is a report of an event that changes everything. The word gospel comes from the word that meant good news, heralds would come into town and say, Good news! Something has happened! Something has happened in history that changes everything, and you must respond to it. The gospel is God has done something for you. Your sins are forgiven! Death has been broken! He died in your place, and he rose triumphant over the grave. That s the gospel. 1 Peter 1:12 - things which angels desire to look into

8 Peter 1:10-12! Page 8 The word desire is an extremely strong word. It s a Greek word that means passion; it means obsession What it s saying is the angels are obsessed with the gospel. Angels Observed: Humanity - unlike anything else in all creation, even the angels, received the image of God - with glory and dignity God is speaking and talking to them like a friend like a father Devil comes as a Serpent - lying - twisting Gods word to their destruction - man and woman are listening - they ve done it - they ve aligned themselves with the enemy. There is no grace, second chance for satan and demons. Angels study watch - look into - Here comes God - How is he going to handle sinful man - He will provide a son, a savior- He s going to be the Hero - a suffering servant a kinsman redeemer. "there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." (Lk 15:10)
