Reconciliation: Celebrated on urday from 4:00 5:00 PM, or by appointment with the priest; Parish Penance Services are celebrated during Advent and Lent. RCIA: The RCIA process is open to those who have never been baptized as well as those baptized into a different faith, and those needing to complete the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation. The group meets Tuesdays at 7:00 PM. If interested, contact Deb for more information at RCIA@stjudeparish.org. Anointing of the Sick: The sacrament of the healing is available at any time to all who are seriously ill, hospitalized or preparing for surgery, as well as those of advanced age. Please contact the parish office to make arrangements for the priest to administer the sacrament. If it is an emergency, please call Ext 14. Parish Registration: Is requested of all individual persons and families who worship regularly with us on Sundays and who intend to participate in the life of our parish with their time, talents, and treasures. For more information, call the parish office or stop by the Information Office after any mass on urday or Sunday. Registration is necessary as well for the issuing of sponsor certificates. Matrimony: Contact the parish office at least 6 months before the prospective date. Baptism: Baptism Preparation Class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 PM in the church. Baptisms are held on urday at and Sunday at 2:00 PM. Call the parish office to register for class and to schedule Baptism.

Ben I would like to remind you that we are united to Jesus Christ as branches are united to a Vine. One of the most important teachings of Jesus is about Unity because He is united with His Father through the Holy Spirit. In this union with Jesus we are called to share the love of Jesus with one another. Unity is possible when we accept the diversity of each one of us. Each one of us thinks differently, we come from different backgrounds and we are called to live in harmony like the body. You see that all members of the body are important, so in the same way, we belong to Jesus. In this context, I would like to invite all of you to openly work together as one body and to work together with three essential elements; belonging, knowledge and behavior. The body has different members but they live together forming the systems to make the body function. God wants us, the Saint Jude Community, to live in union with Him and with one another in Jesus. He is the Vine and we are all the branches. Let us together invite others to be part of the Vine through our example of Unity. Jesus, the Vine will give us salvation and fullness of life. He came to testify to the light, to prepare a people fit for the Lord. SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE Beginning July 1st, 2018 there will be no 5:00 PM Mass on Sunday during the months of July and August. The 5:00 PM Mass will resume the weekend after Labor Day on September 9th, MOVIE NIGHT St. Jude Parish would like you to join us on June 24th, in the Parish Center at 6:00 PM for a showing of The Case For Christ, a 2017 movie starring Erika Christensen, Faye Dunaway and Frankie Faison. The movie is about investigative journalist Lee Strobel, a self proclaimed atheist, who sets out to disprove the existence of God, after his wife becomes a Christian. Chasing down the biggest story of his career, Lee Strobel comes face-to-face with unexpected results that could change everything he knows to be true. The cost is Free and the movie is rated PG. 4 BIRTH OF JOHN THE BAPTIST JUNE 24th This Sunday, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Nativity (the birth) of John the Baptist, giving acknowledgment that John the Baptist is 6 months older than Jesus. Saint John the Baptist is one of the few saints who have two feast days. Just who was John the Baptist? Most everyone realizes that he is the person who baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. This sacramental sign is generally accepted to be true by most all scripture scholars of various religious backgrounds. The baptism of Christ is one of only a very few times when the Trinity is referred to within scripture. John the Baptist is not the author of the Gospel of John. That credit is given to St. John, the Evangelist, the Son of Zebedee, brother of James. John is that individual who is the bridge between the prophets of the Old Testament and Christ. John s mother, Elizabeth was related to Mary, the mother of Jesus, so there is also a familial connection between John and Jesus. In Luke, John is a familial relative of Jesus whose birth was foretold by Gabriel. The original Greek text does not tell us exactly how they were related, but common tradition has held that because their mothers were related, Jesus and John must have been cousins. In the Gospel of John, John the Baptist himself sees the spirit descend like a dove and he explicitly preaches that Jesus is the Son of God. The Gospels vary in their depiction of John's relationship to Elijah. The existence of John as one who would prepare the way in the wilderness is prophesized in the book of Isaiah. John s appearance in the New Testament is described in a similar mode of dress as were many of the Old Testament prophets, and his diet indicated that he was not among the wealthier members of the society of the time; his personality was fairly reclusive. John spent his time in the desert, a spiritual term known as ascetic. He began to announce the coming of the Kingdom, and to call everyone to a fundamental reformation of life. His purpose was to prepare the way for Jesus. The statement by John that he was unworthy to either carry Jesus sandals or to unloose the straps (Mt. 3:11; Jn. 1:27) was stunning testimony indeed by John recognizing the greater nature of the Lord. John characterized the Lord as the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world (Jn. 1:29). John made it clear that his baptizing was for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 1). So, why then, would our perfect Lord be baptized? Jesus showed himself as one of us, and it was Jesus who requested this baptism from John. John s acclamation was truly a demonstration that he recognized the perfection of Christ. Jesus himself approached John for baptism. Behold the Lamb of God, John declared to the crowds, who takes away the sin of the world. He resisted baptizing Jesus, but acquiesced when Jesus explained that he wanted to set an example of righteous behavior. John challenges all of us to live out the very basis of Christianity total dependence on the Father, in Christ. Except for the Blessed Mother, no one had a higher function in the unfolding of salvation. The anniversary of the death of John the Baptist is August 29 and is celebrated with a second feast, this date being a memorial rather than a solemnity. John the Baptist is the patron saint of Jordan, Puerto Rico, French Canada and many other places.

5 Be a part of Fr. Jhon s SOCCER BALLS FOR JOY! As the Soccer World Cup in Russia is coming near, We are invited to share the joy of the game with others and give back! As Christians we have a social responsibility with the least in our society, especially with the kids. Children around the world love soccer more than any other sport. Yet many children in poverty have never played with a real toy or an actual soccer ball. Sometimes a soccer ball is more than just a ball. Sometimes, it is a lifesaver. Since the Soccer World Cup in Brazil 2014, Fr. Jhon Madrid has been leading a campaign, called Soccer Balls for Joy. The idea of this campaign is to collect soccer balls for children in poverty. In the past four years more than 2,000 soccer balls have been collected and children in Uganda, Kenya, Philippines, Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala have been the joyful recipients of this campaign! Let us pass the joy by donating a Soccer Ball for a poor kid somewhere in the world!
