FALL 2011 VOL. VII N0. 3 THE POWER OF FAITH TO TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE! MAGAZINE

M any people, including Christians, believe that Jesus is behind all the atrocities of the world and that He puts sickness on us, but Satan is the culprit. However, the scriptures tell us that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses (Matthew 8:17), and Himself bore our sins in His own body by whose stripes you were healed (I Peter 2:24). Based on the Word the Believer has a covenant right to divine healing. And, Dr. Betty R. Price is a living testimony of the healing power of God s Word. (800)

a message from Apostle Price Confessing God s Word I shall not die, but live and declare the works of the Lord. Psalm 118:17 When my wife, Dr. Betty, was diagnosed with cancer in 1990, I was shocked. My beautiful, vibrant wife had an inoperable malignant tumor. While the news caught us all off guard, we immediately had to exercise our faith. I confessed the Word with Dr. Betty and encouraged her. Initially, she decided against chemotherapy and radiation treatments because of the negative effect she thought it would have on her body. She was eventually convinced by a wise doctor to go through with the treatments. Had she not, she may have died and how would that have glorified God? Getting medical treatment or taking medicine in no way negates our faith in God to heal us. Our faith is based on believing we have received what we have asked God for. Until you have the physical manifestation of what is already yours in the spirit realm, you still have to walk by faith even when your body, in the natural, is not healed. By October of 1991, an MRI scan showed that there were no traces of cancer in my wife s body. She endured those chemotherapy and radiation treatments AND she stood on the Word of God. Healing is indeed part of God s plan for our lives. It may not always come immediately. Often, we have to confess God s Word in the midst of trying situations that s glorifying God! Psalm 118:17 says, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. This is my wife s testimony. And to this day, she is still declaring the wondrous works of the Lord. God is a healer. He wants us to be healthy and whole in mind, body and spirit. But we can t just ask God to heal us and not walk according to the guidelines He s established. For healthy bodies, we must eat healthy foods and exercise. For healthy minds, we have to meditate on God s Word and watch what we are entertaining ourselves with. Healing is ours as believers. Mark 11:24 says, Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. If you are in need of healing, confess God s Word and stand on His promises. invitation to salvation If you are not a Christian and would like to become one, pray the following prayer: Dear GOD in Heaven, Thank you for sending Your Son JESUS CHRIST to destroy the power of Satan over my life. I accept Jesus now as my personal SAVIOR and LORD, and I choose to turn away from the In JESUS name, Amen. sins of my past to a renewed Life in Jesus. You said that if I would confess with my mouth the LORD JESUS and believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead, that I would be saved. I believe JESUS died for my sins and that You raised Him from the dead for my benefit. HEAVENLY FATHER, I thank you for the gift of salvation and for accepting me now as Your child. 7 By Apostle Frederick K.C. Price A Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20 (KJV) s a Christian, am I supposed to thank God for everything that comes my way? There is a lot of discussion about this verse in churches today. However, we need to be scripturally discriminating about this and analyze what we are giving thanks for. Are you supposed to give God thanks for your little child getting hit by a car and dying? When your husband dies of cancer and leaves you with five children to raise. Do you thank God? There are many churches that preach that we are to give thanks in these and other evil situations. They say, Well, the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord. No! I can t thank God when someone dies and goes to hell. I can t thank God when someone is crippled with some paralysis and he can t even feed himself. Is this what the scripture is asking me to do? Am I to thank God for everything that happens good or bad? The Spirit of God gave me a revelation regarding this scripture which I want to share with you today. Look at the twentieth verse again, giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Notice that the things we are to give thanks for are those that are unto God. In Matthew 22:16-21 we read, 16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. 17 "Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? 19 "Show Me the tax money." So they brought Him a denarius. 20 And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" 21 They said to Him, "Caesar's." And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. (NKJV) EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall

feature article We are supposed to give thanks to God always for the things that He has done, not for what the devil has done. Do you understand? We give God thanks, credit, praise and glory for what He has done! You don t thank God for what the devil has done. You don t thank God that somebody died and went to hell. You don t thank God that somebody is sick and helpless or because somebody was killed or murdered. Don t blame God for what the devil does. I have come that they may have life, and that they may hve it more abundantly. John 10:10 I know that the idea of a devil is far fetched for some intellectuals. However, whether you believe it or not, the devil still exists. The Word of God says it and I believe God s Word. Some of you are in denial and that is why the devil has been whipping your heads. He has tricked you into believing that he doesn t exist and you have been calling the things that the devil has been doing in your life, the works of God. Even as a society we have been blaming God for all manner of destruction. T h e insurance companies write into their insurance contracts, Acts of God. There are certain things they won t insure because they say that the flood, hurricane, tornado and earthquakes are Acts of God. First John 3:8 says: He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. If Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, then the devil must have some works. Is this right? Jesus described the devil and his works in John 10:10, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. The devil has some works and when the devil does his works you are not to give God thanks for what the devil has done. You give thanks unto God for what He has done. Render unto God the things that are God s and render unto Satan the things that he has done. Stop blaming God for the things that the devil is doing! 12 parenting matters How to Rebuild YOUR TEENS INTEREST IN CHURCH By Pastor Jon Carr W e often hear stories from parents who are at a loss because their teenage child, who once loved church, has lost interest in attending service. Exhausted from the Sunday morning battle on the need to attend church, many parents decide to throw in the towel and let their son or daughter stay home. After all, they conclude that if they would rather stay home than go to church, it may not benefit them anyway. Leading researchers point out that "just because a person identifies what it is they do not necessarily want, doesn t mean they know what they need. Rebuilding interest in church for a teen may seem difficult and maybe even feel impossible however, it s not! By leading your teen on the right path and taking the right steps, your son or daughter can live a fulfilled life in Christ. You have already taken the first step by seeking Godly counsel. Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (NKJV) Here s how the New Living Bible states it, Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. The way he should go or the path he should take (in this scripture) refers to the tenor of his way (i.e. his gifting, his talent, his bent, the path especially belonging to, the path especially fitted for the individual's character, etc.). The proverb enjoins the closest possible TRAIN UP A CHILD IN THE WAY HE SHOULD GO: AND WHEN HE IS OLD, HE WILL NOT DEPART FROM IT. Proverbs 22:6 study of each child's temperament and the adaptation of "his way of life" to that. Train means to initiate, and so educate. As a parent, you have been given the ability to identify your child s gifts and abilities. Once those gifts and abilities have been discovered, you are to then provide direction, education, and training to assist him/her in finding their way. This applies to church as well as other areas of life. You can help your teen find their place within your local church and within the church globally by getting them plugged-in through serving in the ministry. By doing this you will provide them with the want to for going to church regularly. HERE ARE SIX THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR TEEN Identify your son or daughter s interest.is it music, sports, technology, reading? Find opportunities within the church where he/she may use their talents. For example, if your teen is into music, contact your music minister and seek ways that they may assist in the Music Department. If they like computers or media, perhaps they can work with the Media Department. If your teen enjoyed his/her time in Children s 12 EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall 2011

(800) parenting matters Ministry, perhaps you can encourage them to volunteer in the Children s Ministry. Challenge them to come up with ideas to make Children s Church more exciting than when they attended. Lay the ground work. Prior to your teen meeting with any of these departments, you should meet with them first. Explain to the individual that oversees that department that your teen is very gifted in or interested in that area and you believe if given the chance, your teen could provide service that would enhance that department. Become your son or daughter s biggest cheerleader! Talk to them about things they may be interested in and how it relates to the church. Let them tell you what they would do if they ran the church or the department they re interested in. Then let them know that perhaps God has given them such great ideas because that s what they are called to do. Let them know what a blessing they would be to your church if they got involved! Listen to your teen! Take them to lunch after service. Ask them to tell you three things they got from the message. Ask them to share how they will apply at least one thing from message this week. Share what you got out of the message and how you will apply it as well. Speak the Word over his/her life and see them through the eyes of faith. See them serving God all the days of their life and loving every minute of it! Meditate on scripture: Proverbs 22:6 which reads Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (NKJV) EIF EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall

health & healing By Pastor Robert E. Bolden The heart has long been used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral and intellectual core of a human being. Years ago people thought and argued that their emotions came from their hearts, maybe because the heart beats faster when a person is scared or excited. We ve learned through research and technology that the emotions come from the brain and the brain tells the heart what to do! The heart is one of the most important organs in the entire human body, beating approximately 72 times per minute. An adult heart beats approximately 100,000 times a day, pumping about 2,000 gallons of blood. The heart pumps nearly five quarts of blood through your body every 60 seconds. It has been estimated that the heart will beat about 3 million times during a 70-year lifetime. To understand heart disease, it will help to know how the heart works. Your heart is a pump, it s a muscular organ about the size of your fist and located slightly left of center in your chest. The coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle spread across the surface of the heart, beginning at the base of the aorta and branching out to all areas of the heart muscle. Your heart is divided into the right and the left side. The division protects oxygen-rich blood from mixing with oxygen-poor blood. Oxygenrich blood returns to the heart after circulating through your body. Your heart also has electrical wiring, which keeps it beating. Electrical impulses begin high in the right atrium and travel through specialized pathways to ventricles, developing the signal to pump. The continuous exchange of oxygen-rich blood with oxygen-poor blood is what keeps you alive. There are many causes of disease of your heart valves. Four valves within your heart keep blood flowing in the right direction. You may be born with valvular disease, or the valves may be damaged. Cardiovascular disease can take many forms: high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, valvular, heart disease, stroke, or rheumatic fever/rheumatic heart disease. According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular disease causes 12 million deaths in the world each year. Cardiovascular disease is responsible for half of all deaths in the U.S. and other developed countries as well. Overall, it is the leading cause of death in adults. Coronary artery disease, the most common form of cardiovascular disease, is the leading cause of death in America today. In the U.S. more than 60 million Americans have some form of cardiovascular disease. About 2600 people die every day of cardiovascular disease. Cancer, the second largest killer, accounts for only half as many deaths CONTRIBUTING RISK FACTORS High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) High Blood Cholesterol Diabetes Obesity and Overweight Smoking Physical Inactivity Gender Heredity Age One main contributing Risk Factor is stress; it is considered a contributing factor because little is known about its effects. The effects of emotional stress, behavior habits, and socioeconomic status on the risk of heart disease and heart attack have been proven. This is because we all deal with stress differently. Stressful situations raise your heart rate and blood pressure, increasing the need for oxygen. We as Spirit filled Believers should not allow the powers of darkness to attack us with stress. Psalms 16:1, Proverbs 3:5, 1st Peter 5:7. In the Bible the earliest passage concerning the heart is in Genesis 6:5, even though the heart is emphasized in scripture, few understand the Bible heart. The Hebrew word for heart is Leb which carries the meaning; intellect, awareness, mind, inner person, inner feelings and deepest thoughts. In the Greek the word heart is Kardia, which carries the meaning of thoughts or feelings (mind). The heart is also described as the primary source of such bad behavior such as adultery, hatred, lust, mischief, pride, and rebellion as well 14 EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall 2011

(800) health & healing as good behavior such as gladness, love, and obedience. The heart is fully known to God and Jesus Christ, Jeremiah 17:9-10. Jesus said, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks Matt 12:34, He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, Romans 8:27. Our Father God sees what is in the heart, He can accurately judge a persons heart and motives. In 1st Samuel 16:7 we see that God looks at the heart and not necessarily at the physical stature. We can also look at the scribes and Pharisees HEART SAYINGS! 1. Have a heart = be merciful 2. Change of heart = change your mind 3. To know something by heart = to memorize something 4. Broken heart = to lose love 5. Heartfelt = Deeply felt 6. Have your heart in the right place = to be kind 7. Cry your heart out = to grieve 8. Heavy heart = Sadness 9. Have your heart set on = to want something badly 10. To cross your heart when making a promise! who honored God with their lips, but their heart was far removed from Him Matthew 15:8. The Bible has a lot to say about the human heart; of course, it addresses the heart not from a medical condition but a spiritual condition. There are about 850 times the Bible refers to the heart, but only a few times is the heart referred to as a physical organ that pumps blood. It s mostly referred to as a spiritual metaphor that revels the inner core of a person s actions thoughts and intents (Hebrews 4:12). Finally, we understand that heart often means someone s true character or personality, purity or evil, sincerity or hardness. All these describe the heart or true character of individuals. Our heavenly Father knows the heart of each person and since people speak and act from their hearts, we are to guard our hearts well, Proverbs 4:23, the most important duty of a Believer is to love God with the whole heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind. 16 POWEROFFAITH By Jessica Rodgers Mindy Glaser, former wife of the late Crenshaw Christian Center (CCC) Minister Michael Reid, grew up in a predominately Jewish neighborhood in Chicago until High School. Her struggle with fear and low self-esteem manifest itself in overeating characterized by the binge/ dieting cycle and extreme weight fluctuations. Having some relatives and acquaintances that experienced the horrors of the holocaust, Mindy grew up terrified of life and the things that people were capable of. In the midst of severe depression, she watched Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN) late at night when her family was asleep, I received Jesus at about two in the morning when I was 16. I knew what I had done was right but I had no one to talk to about it and was shy to begin with. I was also torn. To become a Christian in a world of Jews would have been betraying my people because we were tortured and murdered by so called Christians. After Mindy received a bachelor degree in vocal performance from Webster College in St. Louis, she moved to Hollywood to pursue a secular singing career and unintentionally began watching Apostle Fred Price on television. Her life was about to change when a fellow cast member led her to a Bible Study at Crenshaw Christian Center not knowing that this was the church she Mindy Glaser had been watching on television. She soon became a member of CCC and received the infilling of the Holy Spirit. I wasn t sure I would be welcomed by these beautiful, confident, wise people, but I didn t care. If I was just allowed to attend in the back I was happy to glean from the teaching. At that particular time I was bingeing again, 50 pounds overweight, depressed, broke and in that state there is no way I could get singing gigs yet, after receiving assurance of my salvation and praying in my heavenly language, I knew God was with me and encouraging me with a power and love that was greater than human love. Soon after becoming a CCC member, Mindy noticed a substantial transformation in her life. She lost the desire to sing secular music and began maintaining a steady healthy weight as the self-destructive behavior was rooted out. She entered business school knowing she wanted to give back to the ministry that had helped her and became a CCC employee. In November of 1989 she met the man she would later marry, a fellow CCC employee, who became an assistant pastor We Want To Hear From You! Write to us at: Ever Increasing Faith Magazine, P.O. 17 TESTIMONIES Mindy with husband Daniel (left) and son Michael (right) years and made many remarkable memories together. Mindy and Minister Reid were blessed with a son, Michael Reid Jr., who was diagnosed with Asperger s Syndrome. He is so wonderfully unique and I love him dearly. I actually love how he interacts. He is going to amaze multitudes, says Mindy of her son. Though they do face challenges, they overcome them all one day at a time. Michael can quote an innumerable amount of scriptures, is very smart (almost a photographic memory), he s musical, tender hearted towards others and has a huge heart. Though their faith was strong and Minister Reid had numerous miraculous healings through a chronic childhood illness (he was diagnosed to only live until 19 years of age), he passed at 44 years old. The day before he died Michael prophesied over me and told me some things that have actually come to pass and some I still hold in my heart. He thanked me for making our home such a place of peace and told me he loved me and everything we had ever believed God for will come to pass. I thought he was saying all that because he was about to receive a miraculous healing any second, but I was wrong. He could never have looked in my eyes and said goodbye and visa versa. The day that he died I was determined to move on to fulfill God s will which was the character of my late husband. Four months later, Mindy met Daniel Glaser while accepting an invitation to sing at a Messianic Synagogue with Daniel as the piano player. They found out they were both Born Again Jews from the same neighborhoods in Chicago. As the months pursued, they also discovered their mothers went to High School together and Mindy s father was Daniel s father s biggest client. They were also birthed by the same doctor at the same hospital! They began writing and rehearsing together and became fiends. A year later they married. Speaking of her new husband, Mindy says, This truly marks a new phase of my life. Daniel challenges me to be bold in ways that I ve never been challenged before. He pushes me and stretches me as a singer, songwriter, and mother to express my feelings and share encouragement with others. Mindy continues about Daniel that he is great with her son and has taken him in as his own. This takes continuous work, gaining knowledge and seeking wise counsel but we ve come so far. He and my son have now bonded beautifully. Michael is so happy! It is more than a notion for a man to take on a traumatized 15-year-old with special needs as well as a young adolescent accepting a brand new father he is to submit to. We all adore each other and have come through so much in a short time. I couldn t have survived and excelled on my own without loving guidance and support. I am so grateful to the people at CCC and the Price Family who continue and will always be my family along with all of my family. In addition, it is an honor and privilege to be employed at CCC and working for Mrs. Angela Evans who I consider a spiritual mentor just by observing her administrative gifts and spiritual sensitivity in operating one of the most effective ministries in the world. Words can t explain how she has unknowingly been a guiding light of Christ through this journey, encouraging me and convicting me in ways she will never know, adds Mindy. Mindy s family has grown as her husband Daniel has brought three young adults of his own into Mindy s life who she considers honored to know and embrace. Each is tremendously, uniquely gifted. Tabitha, Gabby, and Nicky are currently pursuing art, ministry and professional skate boarding in Canada, San Francisco and Chicago. I m so grateful to Daniel and Michael who love me unconditionally. Yeshua is Lord of my life and is the embodiment of faith, hope, peace and love. EIF EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall

exploring worship By Minister Mark Peay As a young boy, I remember rushing home from school to watch the afternoon cartoons. After a full day of reading, writing and rithmetic, my parents often rewarded me by allowing me to watch an hour of TV before getting to my homework. One of my favorite shows to watch was a cartoon called Transformers. As the theme song came on, I would get excited and turn the TV volume way up. I can still hear the theme song in my mind: Transformers More than meets the eye! Who would have ever thought that years later, my 5-year-old son would now be watching a series of Transformers movies on the big screen as the resurgence of the popular franchise has taken the world by storm? As I sat in worship and prayer recently, I soon realized a truth that encouraged my heart: The fictional depiction of robots being converted into automobiles and the like was actually a reflection of what God has set into motion in the Spirit realm: transformation. Romans 12:2 tells us: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. As faith-walking believers, we know that our minds are constantly being renewed by the Word and that we are continually being filled with God s Spirit as we pray in the Holy Spirit. Likewise, as worshipers, it is incumbent upon us to remember that as we stand in His presence, we are made more like Him and become more of the apple of His eye. Just as the famed Autobots and Decepticons of the Transformers franchise can morph into the objects that are scanned into their mainframe, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 we become more like God when we allow His heart to be downloaded into ours. The key is to upload our worship into His server, better known as The Throne Room. 2 Corinthians 3:18 states But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. The key to qualifying for this transformation into His image is to behold the glory of the Lord. The only way to do that is to get close enough to see His face. And that can t be done standing on the outside of the Throne Room looking in. It s done by going beyond the veil (unveiled face) and having one-on-one worship time with the Father. Then we shall be changed. And that is what I call an Extreme Makeover Throne Room Edition. Lets take a look at another account in God s Word where worship to God created transformation and affected change for His glory. Many times when we think of the infamous King Saul, we think of a jealous, deranged, bipolar, spear-throwing, has-been of a king who was always hating on David. But what we often fail to realize is that Saul was indeed a KING. At some point he did qualify to become that king. In those times, the position of king was not one that was arbitrarily or frivolously bestowed on a person. It was one third of the trifecta of faith: the prophet, the priest and the king. Let s go back in time and see how this man 18 EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall 2011

came to be anointed as king. In 1 Samuel 10, Saul is sent on an errand by the prophet Samuel. Samuel tells Saul that along the way, he will come in contact with some worshiping prophets: 3 Then you shall go on forward from there and come to the terebinth tree of Tabor. There three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine. 4 And they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall receive from their hands. 5 After that you shall come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying. 6 Then the Spirit of the LORD will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. 7 And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you. Let me pause for a moment to point out something that I noticed about verse 6. The associative principle is very important in the lifestyle of a worshiper. It has been described in many ways: Birds of a feather flock together, The apple doesn t fall far from the tree. And so on. The bottom line is that we become most like who we hang around. And in Saul s case, he became like the prophets as he spent quality time around them. Subsequently, as they worshiped God, he worshiped God. It s important as worshipers to surround ourselves with those who are not only familiar, but are also comfortable being in the Courts, the Gates and most especially, the Throne Room of God. Aligning ourselves with those who maintain a healthy worship lifestyle is key to being a dweller within the Secret Place. Now let s examine what happened to Saul after the Spirit of the Lord fell upon him 9 So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him (Saul) another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day. 10 When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them. 11 And it happened, when all who knew him formerly saw that he indeed prophesied among the prophets, that the people said to one another, What is this that has come upon the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets? Wow! I like the first 3 words of verse eleven: Then it happened To me, this translates into a simple equation: OBEDIENCE + WORSHIP = RESULTS Do you see the life-altering, purpose-enhancing power of worship toward God? When Saul put himself in the company of worshipers and then became like minded, verse 10 tells us that the Spirit of God then fell upon him as well. Then it happened HE began to prophesy with them! Saul left the camp an errand boy, but returned a prophet. So much so, that the bystanders who all knew Saul beforehand exclaimed, Wow! Is that Saul over there among the prophets? Yes, the new and improved Saul was most assuredly among the prophets! And as the infomercial announcer says: But EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall

exploring worship wait there s more. 23 So they ran and brought him from there; and when he stood among the people, he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders upward. 24 And Samuel said to all the people, Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people? So all the people shouted and said, Long live the king! Saul was elevated to king and validated among the people. All because he chose to be obedient to his mentor, Samuel and because he decided to not just be a spectator of worship, but a participator in worship. This is what God desires for all of us as believers. He has so many things He wants to show us, give us and do through us. But some things can only be given and some marching orders can only be shared behind closed doors: behind the door of the Holy of Holies. When we engage in worship to our Father, He lovingly draws us close to Him. It s there that we see Him face to face. There is a saying that says Fathers are the mirrors that their children dress themselves in. Our Heavenly Father is that mirror where we see ourselves as He is and we are changed. This brings to mind the timeless worship chorus by Eddie Espinosa: Change my heart oh God Make it ever true Change my heart oh God May I be like You You are the potter I am the clay Mold me and make me This is what I pray I believe that the change and transformation that Saul went through was first born in his heart. The Word of God states that the issues of life flow out of our hearts. And as we spend more time in the presence of our Father in worship, we will get close enough to feel the cadence of His heart beating. And as we are changed, we will realize that our heartbeat is in perfect sync with His. So much so, that there those around us will no longer hear two separate hearts beating they will only hear one His. EIF (800) EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall 2011

the word of faith Y ou need to have a personal relationship with Jesus and know Him in reality for yourself what He has done for you and what He will do, because He said that we could try Him and test Him and then see Him work. But you won t know that about Jesus unless you first act in faith and believe for Him to move in your life. You have to believe that He is moving in your life even when you don t see it. If you can learn that, you will have victory no matter what you re going through. Then people will look at y o u A lot of Christians will start out using their faith when they are going through the challenge, but then their emotions or the trauma of what they are going through will get them off track and they lose their focus on the Lord. Then they start making all kinds of terrible decisions that will haunt them for months and sometimes years. You have to stay focused on God. You can t look at what you see. If I had looked at what I saw (the cancer, hip surgery, and knee surgery), I don t know if I would still be here today. But I refused to look at what I saw, the sickness and disease. I looked at what I believed, and I believed God s Word. We can start being a witness for the Lord right in our own homes. If you are a married woman, you can serve by putting love into action by following Ephesians 5:22, which says: Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Most people don t like the word, submit. However, submission is an act of love, especially when you do it as unto the Lord. Submission doesn't mean an inferior position or role, it is just that God has placed women in the position to be submissive to their husbands, who are or should be the heads of the households. Somebody has to be the head, By Dr. Betty R. Price and say, How can she be so happy while she is going through all of this? That is when you can be a witness that God is real. When you know you can go through anything because you know Jesus is with you, and He will bring you through no matter what the situation or how long it takes. You have to believe that He is moving in your life even when you don t see it. and somebody has to follow. The rank is: God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, then man, woman, and then the children. I have never understood why some women want to try and be the man of the house, when there is a man in the home capable of fulfilling that role. If the husband is not quite the head of the house he should be, if you will submit like the Word says, God will take care of the husband. So many times we try to figure out how God is going to do things. If we don t wait on Him, we end up doing things our way and then we mess up things. But if we would learn to let God do it, things will work out much better. All of it is by faith first. You have to learn to commit your spouse to the Lord because nobody has the perfect spouse. No woman should expect her husband to be perfect, because she is not perfect. Unfortunately, some of us want our spouses to be right on in everything 22 EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall 2011

the word of faith and in everyway. It is not going to happen. When you get married, you start out just like a baby a baby marriage. You have to give and take. Now this does not mean that you have to put up with or take all kinds of abuse, but you do have to give and take and allow your spouse to grow up. Ephesians 5:33 says: Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his wife as himself, and the wife see that she respects her husband. The part I want to emphasize is that the wife sees that she respects her husband. At a wedding I attended, the minister was reading the marriage vows and when he got to the part where it talked about the wife reverencing her husband, the young woman said, I don t want to say that. Why should I have to do that? Well, you can see that the marriage was not It is our responsibility to train ourselves to be people of integrity, honesty, and character. getting off to a good start. Nevertheless, the wife respecting her husband is a necessary part of marriage at least in a Christian marriage. Like I said, submission doesn t mean that the wife has to do anything the husband tells her to. God doesn t want us to do anything that would violate our conscience or our Christian witness. Colossians 3:23 tells us: And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. If you can t do it as unto the Lord, then don t do it. It is our responsibility to train ourselves to be people of integrity, honesty, and character. 26 straight talk Q&A with Drs. Fred and Betty Price Can I live by faith and postdate a check, or not pay a bill, so I can still have money to give to God? If you tell the person to whom you are writing the check that you would like to postdate the check, and that person says it is all right, then it is fine, because you have made that person aware of the situation. Normally, however, you must have the money in the bank to cover the check. If you give someone a postdated check without telling him anything, you will cut your blessings off. This also holds true if you write a check in the morning, then go to the bank in the afternoon and deposit the money to cover the check. Suppose there is a traffic accident on the way to the bank? The streets may be blocked, and you may not get to the bank in time to beat the check. In other words, you would be caught lying and lying is against the Word of God. As for not paying a bill so you have money to give to God, that is FOOLISH. When you do Unless otherwise indicated, Scripture quotations mentioned above are taken from the New King James Version of the Bible. that, you have lost your witness. You tell the man you are a Christian, make an agreement with him to pay him for services he renders to you, then do not keep your word when the money is due. If you do not have enough money to pay God and pay the light bill, you are already overextended. Tithing is for your benefit, not God s. If you think about it, not a penny of your tithe goes to God. It goes to the local church, and is fed back to you in services through the church. If you have not been tithing before now, you are already a God robber. Do not start tithing until you can afford to do it. If you do not pay a bill, you are robbing the people who sent you the bill. That is even worse than robbing God. God will forgive you, but many times, people will not. Do you have a question on your mind? Write to us at: Ever Increasing Faith Magazine, P.O. 28 from the headlines My family was a struggling African- American, middle-class household. Mom and Dad both worked full time, all the time to provide a private school education and the niceties of life. After I graduated from an all boys private high school, I went to college to avoid military service. It didn t work; I got drafted anyway and spent a year in Vietnam. I came home with nothing more By A. Michael Evans than mosquito bites. I parlayed my unemployed status into a job with the railroad and remained there for 14 years. During this time, I provided an upper-middle class existence for myself and eventually, my new family. I married a preacher s kid and we had children of our own. Like my parents, we sent our children to private school and provided the best we could for them, which by then, was substantial. I now have a wife and all the circumstances that go with it. So, by now, our children are getting older, they can pretty much care for themselves. My wife and I are approaching the time when we ll have an empty nest. She s having PMS issues and I m getting a gut and grey hair. We have a lot of time together now, without the distraction of the children s needs. We re really talking to one another for the first time in years and we ve changed. We re approaching the dreaded mid-life. What traditionally happens is when a couple reaches their 40s and 50s, both the husband and wife are having hormonal issues that they might not realize. The woman is going through the change of life. Her body is no longer in child-bearing mode. She s also having issues with her appearance. Starting with stretch marks from her many pregnancies, added weight she hasn t been able to get off, grey hairs and wrinkles, now she s looking more like his mother-in-law than the woman he married. While the wife is going through her hormonal issues, attitudes, mood swings and hot flashes, her husband is having similar hormonal changes. His testosterone levels have dropped significantly since he isn t catting around as he was when he was single. Now, the train wreck. These two people have words with each other. The words lead to a communication interruption. This leads to even less personal interaction, ok, sex and it goes downhill from there. They re both staying out late; doing heaven knows what while everything they ve worked for over the years is at home. She s out with the girls or heaven forbid a guy, he s out with the guys or heaven forbid a girl and guess who is in the middle of this? Satan who else? The husband catches the eye of another woman who is having life issues of her own. These issues the husband has firsthand knowledge of, and can assist (especially if she s pretty) but it doesn t really matter, she s different. The wife does the same or a variation of the Sex in the City thing and the train is about to crash. He ends up treating the new woman s wounds, she wants his stuff he s accumulated over the years, because she ain t got jack. The wife just wants to be held and talked to by someone understanding. Heaven forbid if it s another male out and about with his own midlife crisis and they meet; but this is what Satan wants. He wants your family, dead, by any means possible. 28 EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall 2011

from the headlines So, finally, after months of no communication, the couple speaks about their other lives and realizes they re on the verge of destruction. Its decision time, do they keep their new interests or try and repair the one they had? I say you ve spent so much time together, you have so much invested in each other, (Just look at all the photos from before you got married until now, the children, the family time spent together, the trials and tribulations, the good times and bad, look at the photos.) or, do you chuck it all and roll the dice to see if the new person on the rebound is any better or worse than what you had at home? More than likely, you d end up jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. I know a story of a man who was part owner in a business in his pot-bellied, mid-life state. He and his wife were more of roommates than husband and wife. He starts flirting with the 20-something secretary in his business who has nothing and nothing to lose. The guy is part-owner of the company so she entertains his flirts. He s now feeling like he did when he was dating and now he flirts hard and heavy. In the meantime, nothing s going on at home, so this is exciting. He takes up home with the secretary, dumps his wife and she cleans him out in the subsequent divorce. He loses all of his stuff and is living on the only thing he has left, a small boat in the marina and Miss 20- something says, this isn t what I had in mind, I m leaving. Now he has lost his business, his family, his wife, his home, his history, everything and he s stuck on this old boat with nothing and no one. Score one for Satan. The mid-life crisis is real; some survive, unfortunately, many don t. My mother and father divorced after 28 years, guess why? I have a cousin who recently divorced after 42 years, yes, for the same reason. How do you avoid this happening to you? The first step is realizing that if you re in your 60s, you ve probably passed this point, emphasis on probably. If you are in your 40s to 50s and haven t experienced any of what I ve related, be aware. If you re in the middle of a variation of what I talked about, know Fight the good fight of faith. Stand up for your relationship. who s behind it all and get yourself together. If this is all just an interesting story to you and you re under 40 years old, be advised, your trial is coming. The question is, how are your going to handle it when it does? Know your enemy and his tricks. Be prepared and study God s Word. Use the Name of Jesus on your circumstances. I mean use it, literally. In the natural, go see your doctor on a regular basis. Tell him or her the truth, without leaving anything out. They can t help you if you aren t honest. If you need to make some changes in your life, make them. If you need medication, take it. If you and/or your wife need assistance with your hormonal and libido issues, get it. Why go through life with issues when it s possible that a simple doctor s visit can make your relationship whole? Eat a balanced meal. Finally, exercise. I don t mean heavy lifting, I mean something as simple as walking around the block. If cosmetic surgery works for you and you can afford it, go for it. It may help your self-esteem, so why not? Don t give up without a fight. Another good activity for couples is dancing. Not necessarily hip hop dancing, try ballroom dancing or stepping. There are many places around town where you can go and be taught a few steps. Guys, I guarantee you, your wife will love it. You ve got your arms around her, listening to smooth music; it doesn t get any better than this, especially at your age. Do you have trouble hearing? Do you wear glasses? Why not get some assistance? Saying what, what, over and over again is annoying, get some help. If you ve got aches and pains, it s a sign that you ve lasted until middle age and your bones and muscles need a little assistance from time to time. Take your prescribed pain pill and get on about your business. Think of all those who have gone before you and have no pain at all. Bottom line, fight the good fight of faith. Stand up for your relationship. You ve got so much invested in each other it would be asinine to chuck it all and take a chance of starting all over again. EIF EVER INCREASING FAITH MAGAZINE Fall
