1 ONEIGHT & TOB Confirmation Process The following is a list of certain pieces which make-up the St. Michael/ St. Mary s Parish Confirmation Program. These pieces are intended to help you, the Confirmation candidate and your sponsor, make decisions which best prepare you for the spiritual formation that lays ahead. 1. Confirmation Components a. Attendance on all designated nights b. Weekly attendance of mass c. Attend at 2 Retreats per year d. Confirmation Saint name and Sponsor forms e. Sponsor/Candidate Meeting f. 50 Service Hours-see attached sheet for suggested opportunities 2. What are these programs? a. TOB-Theology of the Body-comprises 129 Wednesday audiences presented by Pope John Paul II exploring and explaining where we come from and where we are headed as God s creation. The curriculum we are using beautifully explains JP II s teaching as it applies to the lives of teens. b. Oneight-Refers to Acts 1:8 and calls us to reflect on it as it the question; what does it mean to witness our Catholic faith. It is a Confirmation program written by Lifeteen. See lifeteen.com for more details 3. ONEIGHT/TOB Nights We will gather on Sunday evenings as a large group community, beginning with speakers and a teaching on various topics. On TOB nights we will be watching a video teaching series. After the teaching, Confirmation Candidates will break into small groups for discussions and activities, then re-gather in prayer to close the night and make final announcements. TOB Nights: 4:30-6:30 pm Oneight Nights: 5-6:30 pm PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME!! See front pages for exact dates and times. Absences Attendance at all Confirmation nights is MANDATORY! If however there is no possible way for you to make a night you MUST call Michael House and let me know that you will not be able to attend and the reason why. If you accumulate 3 absences over the course of the year you will not be allowed to complete the year and you must re-register the next year and repeat the year. Regardless of whether you re in Confirmation 1 or 2.

2 3. Service and Outreach We will again be requiring each Confirmation student to have 50 hours of community service by the time they are confirmed in year two. To prove that you have done the hours; make sure you state what it was that you did, the date, and signed by the person in charge. The essay will be explaining how your experience impacted you and changed you. See below for service opportunities and ideas. It is your responsibility to find different service opportunities. These opportunities must be church related and be a time in which you are asked to give of yourself and get out of your comfort zone. We are called to serve and be Christ to others, and by doing this we are fulfilling this calling. All C-I students will be required to do a service project within their small groups. With the help of your small group leader you will come up with a service project to be approved by October 25 th, and an update session in November. This will contribute to your service hours between of your service hours can be attributed from this project. You will also be required with your group to present your experience to the group on March 7 th from 7-8 pm. 4. Retreats Retreats are such an important part of the Confirmation process; they are even important in life. How many times do we look forward to a vacation from school or from our everyday lives? We go to the beach, or the mountains, Hawaii, Disneyland, just about anywhere to get away and recharge our batteries. Retreats are intended to do the same. They give people the chance to get away from things that prevent them from focusing on our Lord. Retreats allow candidates to go away to have fun, relax, but more importantly, to recharge the spiritual battery. When you return from retreat, if your heart is open, you can be guaranteed that your life will be changed. You will be required to go to two retreats throughout the course of the year. 3 5. Sponsors Sponsors are people whom you can rely on during your faith journey. They should be people with a deep commitment to the Catholic faith and who are active, confirmed members of their parish. They should be willing to listen to you, help you answer questions, and be willing to share their faith and example with you, Sponsors are expected to maintain REGULAR contact with their candidate to not only pray but to socialize a stronger relationship. Confirmation Sponsors will be required to attend a session with their Candidate on 3/28/10; C-II teens only. The one ONEIGHT Sessions will give you a chance to connect spirituality throughout the year along with personal time you schedule together. Please take time to discern your Sponsor and have them complete the Sponsor Information Form in this Registration Packet. All Sponsors must have their Sponsor Information Form signed and sealed by their parish pastor. 6. Forms Due November 8 i. Baptismal Certificate (if not baptized at St. Michael s or St. Mary s) ii. 4 g. March for Life (January 22 nd ) 8. Parent Involvement New this year we are asking all C-I parents to be involved in the service project that they are required to do. Whether it be helping to plan the project or just helping to carpool the teens to and from the project, would be a great way to be involved in helping and be witness to what it means to have a heart of service. We strongly encourage parents should to be involved in the Confirmation Program in some way. This program relies totally on the volunteers to make it possible. With that in mind, we ask that you consider where your talents and time can be used to make the ONEIGHT / TOB Confirmation Program the best! Each Parent Team will be known by their Patron Saint and we hope it will help you on your journey to sainthood. St. Charles Borromeo Team- St. Charles Borromeo is the Patron Saint of Catechists. We are always looking for parents to help facilitate the Small Group Break Outs that take place on the ONEIGHT / TOB Nights. The commitment will involve attending ONEIGHT / TOB Nights, and attending occasional Core Team Meetings to prepare for these nights. Training, Safe Environment Training is mandatory for this ministry. St. Expeditus Team- St. Expeditus is the Patron Saint of Procrastination and Organization. Every time we gather we will need parents to coordinate the Check-In process and nametag distributions. This is a volunteer ministry that will take 1 to 2 hours a month to assist us with and requires that you come 1/2 hour early to the ONEIGHT / TOB Nights to set up sign in tables. St. Joseph Team- St. Joseph is the Patron Saint of Parents. We are looking for parents who will assist the Catechists with the annual Service Projects. Safe Environment Training is mandatory for this ministry. St. Martha Team- St. Martha is the Patron Saint of Cooks. We are looking for parents who are willing to coordinate and provide snacks for the ONEIGHT / TOB Nights. This could be as little as a once a year commitment if we get enough parents help. Guardian Angels- Guardian Angels are our Prayer Warriors. This is a group of parents that will gather for Adoration in the Church from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. The purpose of this group is to pray for the teens of our parish and our Confirmation Program.
