Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen. Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Palestine Oh Mary Immaculate, Queen of Heaven and Earth, we have gathered here to honour you as our heavenly mother. Confident of your motherly love, and power to help, we ask you to aid and protect your people of the Holy Land. That Land is in a special way your very own. It was there you were born, grew up and gave birth to your Divine Son you saw Him pay the price of our redemption on the Cross. As you stood by that Cross, you were given to us as our own mother. We, your sons and daughters, now ask you to protect the people of your native land. Drive from their midst all error, bring peace to them all, unite them all in love, so there will be but one fold and one Shepherd. Grant that during our own lives we may live in true peace and charity. May our lives on earth be ever pleasing to your Divine Son. Through your motherly care, may we all one day enjoy the reward promised by Him to all who live and serve Him. Amen. 1

Free our hearts and souls From sin, partiality, egoism, and cowardice So that we can be worthy of Your sacrifice. Send Your Holy Spirit upon all of us Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre, So that He may make us convinced And sincere ambassadors of Peace and Love Among our brothers and sisters and, especially, Among all those who do not believe in You. Give us Faith To face all the problems of everyday life And to merit one day to approach Your presence humbly but without fear. Amen. Daily Prayer Lord Jesus, who has wiled to call me to the Ranks of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, I humbly ask You, by the intercession of the most Blessed Virgin Mary of Saint Joseph, Saint Peter, Saint Paul and all the Saints, to help me to remain faithful to the traditions of our Order, in practicing and defending the Catholic, Apostolic and Roman Religion against impiety and in exercising charity to my neighbour, and above all to the poor and the sick in the Holy Land. Grant to me and my confreres the grace to support by prayer and sacrifice the maintenance of the Holy Places and the work of His Beatitude the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. Give me the strength to be able to execute these desires with a truly Christian spirit, for the Glory of God, the peace of the world and the good of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. 35 PROTOCOL AND DRESS CODE AT VIGIL AND INVESTITURE (excerpted and adapted from the Principles of Conduct to be Observed by the Members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem) Protocol As far as the places to be taken and the various roles are concerned, the instructions given by the competent Ecclesiastical Master of Ceremonies shall be followed. It is the duty of the lay Master of Ceremonies to ensure strict observance of such instructions. One should remember that usually, in Diocesan ceremonies, the position assumed by the Order s representatives in the Procession is one immediately preceding that of the Clergy, due to the Order s dignity as an institution of Canon Law of the Vatican City State and one of the Catholic Church s Central Bodies. When the cloak is worn, the distinctions of the rank may be seen on the beret, where they are placed as badges on the stiff band. The beret shall be worn with the badge on the right side of the head. There is currently no distinction of rank to be applied to the cloak of the Ladies. The beret must be worn during the procession. 34

36 Decorations of the rank may not be pinned on the cloak, which may bear only: - the Pilgrim s Shell (in the middle of the Jerusalem Cross) as a testimony of the bearer s pilgrimage to the Holy Land; - the pin indicating Attending the Jubilee Pilgrimage of the Year 2000 in the middle of the Jerusalem Cross in absence of the Pilgrim s Shell or, when the last one is present, on top of the vertical arm of the Cross) that may be worn by concession of H.E. the Cardinal Grand Master. The neck insignia for Knight or Knight Commander is worn under the bowtie. The neck insignia for Lady or Lady Commander is worn under the cloak. Dress Code The regalia of the Order consists of white cloak with black beret, white gloves and neck insignia for the Knight, and black cloak with black veil, white gloves and neck insignia for the Lady. The Knight may wear a dark business suit at the Vigil, but is required to wear a black tie at the Investiture. The Lady should wear a one or 2 piece long black dress (short or long sleeves) with a modest neckline and black dress shoes at the Vigil and at the Investiture. 35
