COURSE OUTCOMES: Students successfully completing this course will be able to: 1) To learn and practice the steps and skill of the historical-critical method generally required for the interpretation of a biblical text. 2) To become acquainted with the content and theology of Matthew s gospel. 3) To work in detail on one text and apply the historical-critical method. PREREQUISITES: Introduction to the New Testament TEXTS: Gospel Parallels: A Comparison of the Synoptic Gospels, Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1992 Or Synopsis of the Four Gospels, Greek-English edition of the Synopsis Quattuor Evangeliorum, Stuttgart: German Bible Society, Formatted: Bullets and Numbering The Bible (including apocrypha ) preferably NRSV WRITTEN & ORAL ASSIGNMENTS/TESTS: Two (2) book reviews, a research paper and final colloquium CLASSROOM PROCEDURES: Lecture and discussion GRADING PROCEDURES: Preparation and participation in class 10% PAGE 1 OF 6
