2 NOTES FOR YOUR DIARY MISSION MONTH: Today Sun 1st October begins the first day of the Mission Month of October. World Missions Ireland is the Holy Father s official charity for overseas mission and is responsible for co-ordinating Mission Sunday in Ireland. A calendar of events has been put in place by World Missions Ireland throughout the month of October, details of which can be found on website: WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES: In anticipation of the World Meeting of Families 2018, the icon of the Holy Family will arrive in Holy Family Church, Belfast on the afternoon of Mon 2 Oct until Wed 4 Oct. There will be a petition box in front of the icon, into which visitors are invited to put their intentions. Petitions will be distributed amongst contemplative orders in Ireland, to pray for them. The Church will be open from 8.30 am until 9 pm. There will also be a short prayer service on Monday and Tuesday nights at 7.30 pm, and refreshments will be served afterwards. All are most welcome. FAREWELL COLLECTION FOR FR DOMINIC McGRATTAN: A number of parishioners have asked for the opportunity to mark Fr Dominic s departure with a gift. During his three years in the parish Fr Dominic made a considerable contribution to it s life and stands in that long line of Priests who have served here in the last two centuries. Brown envelopes are available at the back of the Church for those who wish to take them and can be dropped into the collection plate next week 7 and 8 October where they will be separated and any proceeds conveyed to Fr Dominic. MARY & MERCY TOUR COMES TO BELFAST: Experience the time of mercy! Bestselling Catholic author Fr Michael Gaitley MIC is visiting Ireland in October to talk on Mary & Mercy. Fr Gaitley has sold over 2 million copies of his book 33 Days to Morning Glory on personal consecration to Mary, and he s also written on Divine Mercy and St Therese. He ll be appearing at St Patrick s, Donegall St, Belfast at 7.30 pm on Friday 6th October giving his own personal testimony and speaking about Our Lady and mercy. Everyone is welcome to attend this uplifting evening. ROMANIAN TRIP FUNDRAISING CAKE SALE: Fundraising cake sale will take place after Masses on Sat 7 October and Sun 8 October in St Patrick s Church. Proceeds are for the New Lodge Youth Centre group who will be travelling to Romanian in February to work in orphanages, disability centres and helping poor families. Any donations will go towards the group journey to Romania. ANNUAL LEGION OF MARY ROSARY PROCESSION Takes place on Sunday 8 October. Procession leaves St John s Church, Falls Road at 3 pm and will process to St Michael the Archangel Church where there will be a short service of Benediction. Refreshments will be available afterwards. Rosary beads and leaflets provided. All are welcome. Please gather at St John s Church t 2.45 pm. ST PATRICK S GIRL GUIDES: Are currently looking for new member s aged 6+. We meet in The Recy North Queen Street Community Centre, 46a Victoria Parade every Monday night from pm. Why not come along and make new friends and participate in games, crafts, badgework, trips and much more. ST JOHN S WINTER CRAFT FAIR: Takes place in St John s Hall on Sat 25th November from 10 am 4 pm. Table Hire 15. Habitat for Humanity N.I./Living Youth Ethiopia Team: End of July/Start of August 2018 (*12 days dates to be finalised) Be part of this exciting ongoing partnership between Living Youth and Habitat's Global Village programme in Ethiopia! Twelve years ago, a volunteer team from Ulster University was the catalyst for our Ethiopia Partnership. Since then, thousands of lives have been transformed through small changes which make a world of difference; simple homes, clean water, proper toilets. Global Village is the name given to Habitat for Humanity s international volunteering programme. Its aims are to raise homes, funds and awareness about the need for decent housing and water sanitation. The programme is a unique short-term opportunity where you will join a team which has the privilege of working alongside families in need. Equally important is the personal development aspect of these trips with perspectives broadened, skills enhanced and lives changed. This will be Living Youth's fifth team to Ethiopia. At the start of the Summer a number of MPs at Westminster took advantage of the political situation here and brought forward legislation to introduce free abortions in GB for women from Northern Ireland. Why does this matter? Well, that provision not only undermines the process of devolution, it is also being used in an attempt to destabilise abortion law and policy here. We firmly believe that women in Northern Ireland deserve better than abortion. If our political representatives really want to show their support for women in crisis we are asking them to stand for and with women in NI by providing them with much needed increased state provision for pregnancy crisis care, including perinatal palliative care and maternal mental health care services here in Northern Ireland.

5 That s why BLM has launched a petition. You can find it on our website, and when you sign it a copy is automatically sent to your local MP and MLAs. There is also a PDF copy to print and use, along with all the information on how to do that. Please join us in upholding the value, dignity and worth of mothers and unborn children in our society.
