3 Representations of the Holy Spirit Scripture gives us some types, emblems, symbols, or illustrations to help us understand the third person of the Trinity. Match the Scriptures in the left column to the symbol, type, or illustration in the right column. Just as the dove symbolizes purity, the Spirit s aim in our lives is to produce the purity of Christ. Just as earnest money is given as a pledged guarantee of a future purchase, the Holy Spirit is our guarantee of God s future blessings in salvation. Just as fire is a purifier of gold and other precious metals, the Spirit is doing a purifying work of sanctification in our lives today. Just as oil was used to bring light into darkness, the Spirit illuminates the truth to help us discern truth from error. Just as the seal indicated ownership and authority, the Spirit in our lives assures us of God s ownership and authority over us. Just as water refreshes and cleanses, the Spirit refreshes our spirit and blesses others through our work. Just as the wind is invisible, yet its effects are visible, the Spirit s work in our lives brings change that is visible.

6 Holy Habits Weekly Devotion This week s memory verse: John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. This week s holy habit: Obedience Obedience is a function of faith. As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, we are to be obedient to the Father, just as He was, with the aid of the Holy Spirit who makes it possible. Not only do we have the power to be obedient, we find power in being obedient. The law is written on a new heart and the delights of God s promises can be experienced now by those who are willing to do His will. DAY 1 Read Luke 11:9-13. Read the Parable of the Good Father. Humble yourself this moment and make your needs known to your Father. DAY 2 Read 1 Samuel 15:22 and Deuteronomy 28:15. Throughout scripture it is illustrated how disobedience to God brought about curses while obedience to God resulted in blessings. Name occasions in your life when this has been true. DAY 3 Read 1 Timothy 4:6-9. False teaching is not always a blatant attack on doctrine. Its subtlety can readily be seen in everyday culture by our friends/family that attribute behavior to an astrological sign, believe in superstitions and karma, consult palm/card readers, etc. How can you be obedient in disciplining yourself for the purpose of godliness when you encounter these situations? DAY 4 Read John 15:13. The Holy Spirit is active in helping us to bear in mind and apply scripture that we have learned. Think of a challenge or concern that you are dealing with right now and find some verses that speak directly to your situation. DAY 5 Read 1 Peter 4: Pray specifically for yourself and others that you know are struggling with obedience.
