Its entitled A Humble King and reads, Someone once wrote this about Jesus: He who is the Bread of Life began His ministry hungering. He who is the Water of Life ended His ministry thirsting. Jesus hungered as a man, yet fed the hungry as God. He was weary, yet He is our rest. He paid tribute, yet He is the King. He was called a devil, but He cast out demons. He prayed, yet He hears prayer. He wept, and He dries our tears. He was sold for 30 pieces of silver, yet He redeems sinners. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, yet He is the Good Shepherd. He gave His life, and by dying He destroyed death. Throughout His life on earth, Jesus was a man of striking contrasts reflecting both His genuine humanity and His full deity. On that Sunday before He died, one might have expected Jesus the King to enter Jerusalem on a mighty steed. But He chose instead a lowly donkey. Before He could come as a King to reign, He had to come as a Savior to die. We would expect to find such contrasts in the life of One who was fully God and fully man. Jesus, who is sovereign Lord of the universe, became a man to die for us. But one day He will return as King of Kings.
2 Elder s Corner Praise The Lord, He is risen indeed! As you read this we have just finished worshipping and celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ! To me it feels like a time and season of rebirth and new starts. I write this article and want to share the excitement and unity that I see coming from the Elder Board and the other boards and teams as we collaborate together. The Elders have been meeting and prayerfully considering where and how the Lord would use Hs resources here at EGCC. Come and join in. Look around and don't be hesitant to ask where you could use your talents and gifts. You will truly be blessed! Trustee Talk As I look outside and see the whisper of Spring, I think that it has been a long winter. But God is good and we have been very blessed. Spring is a time to see God at work and with that in mind we need to look at the work we need to do annually as a church family. Saturday, May 10 th has been set aside for our Annual Church Work Day. We will begin at 9:00 am and work both inside and outside to give us that spring cleaning look. We will conclude at about noon and enjoy some good fellowship at a pizza lunch. Please consider coming and have a great time with your EGCC family. - Mark Shaver, Trustee Board Chair Ted Feurer for the Elder board March Income Budget 34,638 Parking Lot 1,325 Income 41,286 Total 6,648 YTD Income Budget 103,914 Parking Lot 3,617 Income 97,145 Total (6,769) Men s Breakfast The next Men s Ministry Breakfast will be held Saturday, May 3rd at 8:30am, in Buchanan Hall. 4 Featured Missionary Profiles Active Active profile features Glen Ewart, a long time supported missionary from EGCC who works as a campus staff member for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship in the area of Potsdam and Clarkson Colleges in NYS. Glen's lifework through Intervarsity is targeted in transforming lives through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Recent efforts have included an outreach to students on campus involved in a career day where posters entitled, " Who is this Jesus?" and " What does Easter mean?" were displayed. Glen has been supported by EGCC for many years and has been featured in one of our recent Mission Conferences. The Mission Board is pleased to foster the work of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and partner together in "transforming lives, renewing campuses, and developing world changers" through dedicated workers such as Glen Ewart. God bless you, Glen! Retired Fred and Goldie Stoll Ministry Update (April 3, 2014) Our connection with EGCC began in the early 1980s.We were blessed to live in an apartment in Scotia (arranged by EGCC at the time) for about 6 months during furlough (home assignment). We especially remember the love shown to us by the church during Fred's bout with malaria. Goldie's brother once lived in Ballston Spa and now in Hudson Falls, NY We are so thankful for the fellowship and support we have received from EGCC during the years since then, and especially appreciate the continued financial support in retirement. We would like to receive "The Church Matters" again, so that we can pray for you all more effectively. Fred joined SIM Australia to serve at Radio ELWA in Liberia in1966. Fred met Goldie (who is from NY State) in Nigeria and they married in Liberia in God blessed them with 2 children, Esther and Jonathan, both born in Liberia. Esther married Jim Berry and they live in Florence, SC with 4 children, ranging in age from 8 to18. Jonathan and Jenny serve with SIM in Ethiopia. We enjoyed visiting them in January, and had a great time getting to know our youngest 14 month old granddaughter, Johanna. Ministries in Liberia included mechanical maintenance at Radio Station ELWA, follow -up and counseling of English radio listeners, Bible studies with army chaplains, preaching and holding Sunday services at an army camp, and producing radio programs for outreach to Mandingos, a Muslim people group. Goldie served as a dental hygenist, wife and mother. We continued serving with SIM on Home staff in Charlotte, NC from 1985 until 2002.Goldie served in various capacities in both SIM USA and SIM International offices, and Fred worked in the SIM USA Purchasing Department until his retirement on May 1st,2002. We presently live in the SIM Retirement Village. We stay busy at the village, with our local church and in jail ministry..our address is: Fred and Goldie Stoll, 4232 Africa Drive, Sebring, FL Telephone: address: fredgold69@centurylink.net We can also connect via Skype or Facebook.
5 Summer Mission Trip News We are excited that a team of 12 youth and 6 adults will be traveling to the remote wilderness of Pennsylvania this summer for Wayumi Expedition. Wayumi Expedition is a program hosted by New Tribes Mission for High School Students and their chaperones that combines summer camp and a mission trip into one experience. Participants get to learn about missions and participate in activities that realistically simulate challenges and events in the life of a missionary without leaving the United States. We are preparing for our trip by raising funds, and learning about tribal missions. Each of the participants is reading a book about the subject and we will share from our readings with each other. For this trip to be successful, we need support from our EGCC family. Most importantly, please remember us and our preparations in your prayers. Also, please support our fundraising events if you are able. We have four fundraising opportunities for you to consider. #3 - Hosta Sale - The date for this is to be determined by when the hostas start to return after our long winter. As a team we have offered to do the much needed dividing of the hostas that are in the church landscaping. The divisions that do not go back into the flower beds at church will be available for purchase by the congregation for a donation to the trip. #4 - Rent a missionary (or group of hands). We have youth and adults willing to do yard work, housecleaning, babysitting or any other jobs we can. We come do the work you need done, but instead of paying us, you donate to the trip. We are really looking forward to participating in our fundraising events and going on our trip in July. We couldn't do it without you and we thank you for your support. Your 2014 Short Term Mission Team: #1 - Cheese Steak Dinner. This event will be held on Wednesday, May 7th in place of the usual Wednesday Night Meal. For the 5th year we will offer the sandwiches, chips, salad, dessert and beverage for eat in or take out. Meals will be served from 5-7pm. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. A la carte pricing is available. #2 - Car Wash and Bake Sale. This event will be held on Saturday, June 7th from 9:30 am until noon in the church parking lot. Cars will be washed and baked goods sold for donations from customers. If there are any baked goods left over they will be sold after the Sunday morning Worship Service on June 8th.
