2 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today s Reflection: We each carry a personal cross all our own, so we rejoice in these words of comfort: Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. When we seek Jesus, he finds us and gives us rest. This is a joyful mystery hidden from people who are arrogant and powerful, but revealed as God s gift to people who are humble and childlike in faith. Paul proclaims we receive eternal life in our mortal bodies and we enjoy life in the Spirit, which is life in Christ. What burden are you carrying right now that you can give to Jesus with joy? Next Sunday s Readings - July 16, Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Isaiah 55:10-11 Romans 8:18-23 Matthew 13:1-23 Meditation: What is the best and easiest way to help people understand God's kingdom? Like the rabbis of his time, Jesus very frequently used parables - short stories and images taken from everyday life - to convey hidden truths about the kingdom of God. Like a skillful artist, Jesus sketched memorable pictures with short and simple words. A good image can speak more loudly and clearly than many words. Jesus used the ordinary everyday illustrations of life and nature to point to another order of reality - hidden, yet visible to those who had "eyes to see" and "ears to hear". Jesus communicated with vivid illustrations which captured the imaginations of his audience more powerfully than any abstract presentation could. His parables are like buried treasure waiting to be discovered (Matthew 13:44). What can the parable about seeds and roots teach us about the kingdom of God? Any farmer will attest to the importance of good soil for supplying nutrients for growth. And how does a plant get the necessary food and water it needs except by its roots? The Scriptures frequently use the image of fruit-bearing plants or trees to convey the principle of spiritual life and death. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8; see also Psalm 1:3)

IHS - Institute for Human Services We are looking for families or individuals to serve dinner at the Institute for Human Services (IHS) Men s and Women s Shelters. Two crews are needed to work at both shelters. If you'd like to join us, we meet on the 4 th Sunday of every month. The meals are already prepared; we volunteer to serve the food. Christmas Festival 2017 St. Ann Christmas Festival Saturday, December 2, :00 am to 2:00 pm Baked Goods, Country Store, Entertainment, Hey Mr. Postman, International Cuisine, Keikiland, Mrs. Santa (arts and crafts), Plants, Quits, Something Good, Winter Greens, and, of course, MALASSADAS Remember that the success of this event requires volunteers and donations. 4 Early Registration for Religious Education St. Ann offers Religious Education & Youth Ministry classes for children and teens, for grades Pre-K (3-4 yrs.) thru High School Confirmation Class. Registration for the RE/YM school year is now open! Both new and returning families must register to attend classes. Parents/Legal Guardians may stop by the RE Office during regular business hours (June and July: Monday thru Friday, 8am 3:30pm) to fill out a registration form and make payment. We are looking for Volunteer Catechists The St. Ann Religious Education/Youth Ministry Programs are thriving and vibrant due to the dedication and commitment of over 55 volunteer parishioners! For the upcoming year we are looking for a Sacramental Prep I teacher and a YM 7 th Grade teacher. We also are looking for a 5 th grade aide as well as Youth Leaders for our YM Program. Training for these positions will be provided.
