2 ABOUT THIS GUIDE In his letter to the Ephesians, the Apostle Paul explains God s blueprint for church ministry. He says that God has given some gifted leaders in the church to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. (Ephesians 4:12). Hope Chapel draws our deep conviction that Members are Ministers that each member of our church family is a minister from this Scripture and others like it. Our heart for our church is that it would be like a busy anthill of ministry activity, where everybody is working together towards a common spiritual objective. This small guide is meant to provide a comprehensive list of various ministries in our church body all the ministries whose central objective is to build up our church family to unity in heart and maturity in faith. Here you will find many different ministries to participate in. Some are led by pastors, some are led by elders, some are led by members. Regardless, we believe that each ministry in these pages represents a vital contribution to the overall health and functioning of our church body. So, we hope and pray that this small guide will help you find where you fit in our family, this family called Hope Chapel.

3 HOPE CHAPEL MINISTRY INSTITUTE (HCMI) Hope Chapel Ministry Institute exists to equip believers and develop them into bold disciples of the Triune God of the universe. We believe the process of theological training and equipping of believers is for everyone. By developing disciples who delight in God s Word we know God is glorified and His truth is preserved for the next generation. We offer a variety of classes throughout the year. We have designated eight classes as core classes which make up our Certificate of Biblical Studies. These classes teach concepts that are fundamental to effective Christian life and ministry. DISCOVERING HOPE HOPE CHAPEL Whether you are new to Hope or have been attending for years, you won t want to miss The Best Class at Hope Chapel! With honesty and sincerity, Senior Pastor Zac Nazarian shares his personal testimony and the events that led him to Hope Chapel and ultimately, into a true saving faith in Jesus Christ. Developed by Pastor Zac, the curriculum for Discovering Hope guides students through the Biblical books of Genesis, Romans, and John to study creation, sin, salvation, and much more. GENESIS (CORE CLASS) HOPE CHAPEL Genesis is the bedrock of our Christianity. It takes us from creation to man s tragic fall into sin and death, and reveals God s gracious unfolding plan of redemption through His covenant with Abraham and his descendents. Make your foundation sure by studying the book of beginnings. GOD CENTERED LIVING (CORE CLASS) HOPE CHAPEL This course works through five foundational topics for defining a life of Biblical, God-Centered, Spirit-empowered ministry. Students examine: how the pursuit of eternal pleasures in God Himself is a necessary part of all worship and virtue; how saving faith in ever-arriving future grace is also sanctifying faith; how to count all suffering joy; how men and women with equally valuable roles should complement one another in their new life and service of the body of Christ; And how God s purpose in the world is to win worshippers for Himself from every tribe, tongue, people and nation. GOSPEL OF JOHN (CORE CLASS) HOPE CHAPEL The Apostle John wrote his Gospel that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20:31) As you study John your faith will be strengthened as you witness Jesus miracles, hear Him proclaim His I am statements, see His crucifixion and death and finally prove His divinity by His resurrection. HOW TO SHARE YOUR FAITH (CORE CLASS) HOPE CHAPEL You will learn how to have a simple 5 minute conversation that will leave people concerned about their eternal destiny using an almost forgotten Biblical key that has the power to unlock the door of the human heart. This class is interactive, exciting, and has the potential to change your life forever by giving you a new zeal for God like you ve never experienced before.

MINING GOD S WORD (CORE CLASS) HOPE CHAPEL In this course students are introduced to inductive Bible study through the steps of observation, interpretation and application. The principles in these steps are applied in weekly assignments to passages in both the Old and New Testaments. The goal of the course is to enable students to make inductive Bible Study a habit so that they may daily experience the joy of discovering the truths of God s Word. ROMANS (CORE CLASS) HOPE CHAPEL R. C. Sproul calls Paul s letter to the Romans, The operation manual for our beliefs and a systematic theology of our salvation. Romans has had a monumental impact on many of the great fathers in the faith from Augustine and Luther to Charles Spurgeon. Study Romans and experience what Paul proclaimed the gospel to be, The power of God for salvation. (Romans 1:16) THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS 1 (CORE CLASS) HOPE CHAPEL This course is an attempt to systematically present what the Apostle Paul called the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27). A strong emphasis is placed on learning what the Bible says as a whole about major doctrines in hopes that we might establish ourselves, families and church in the sound doctrine of the faith. This course is the first of two trimesters and can be taken in any order. THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS 2 (CORE CLASS) HOPE CHAPEL This course is an attempt to systematically present what the Apostle Paul called the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27). A strong emphasis is placed on learning what the Bible says as a whole about major doctrines in hopes that we might establish ourselves, families and church in the sound doctrine of the faith. This course is the second of two trimesters and can be taken in any order. ELECTIVES HCMI also offers a wide range of elective courses. Though some have been offered only once, many of the electives are repeated. The elective classes focus on creation, giving, books of the Bible, America s Christian heritage, guitar lessons and much more.

5 MEN WEDNESDAY MORNING MEN S GROUP HOPE CHAPEL Every Christian man should strive to excel when it comes to his faith. Join Pastor Dale as we learn what it takes to be strong spiritual leaders in our homes, our church, at work and in our communities. EXEMPLARY HUSBAND (PART 1 & 2) HOPE CHAPEL In this book study you will find a Biblical blueprint for the mandate God has given to husbands in the covenant of marriage to love their wives, even as Christ loved the church. FOR MEN ONLY HOPE CHAPEL Periodically, we host a For Men Only a night for men to come together and hear dynamic lectures from seasoned pastors and leaders. MEN S RETREAT Each Spring, we a have Men s Retreat that features worship, a wonderful speaker, fun activities, delicious food and time to relax. The retreats are an excellent time for men of every age to get away and spend time growing spiritually and building relationships with each other. WOMEN We are committed to discipleship through the sound teaching and studying of God s Word. If you are seeking greater spiritual maturity, embarking on a new season of your life, facing trials or lacking Christian fellowship with other like-minded women, come and check out one of the Bible studies. There is worship, prayer, table discussions, testimonies and the study of the Bible using workbooks and/or a thought-provoking DVD series. WOMEN OF THE HEART HOPE CHAPEL Come and join us on Tuesday mornings as we learn and grow together in the Heart of God s Word. You ll be challenged, strengthened and renewed as we go through selected choice topics while at the same time building new relationships with other women in the body of Christ. WOMEN OF THE WORD HOPE CHAPEL We welcome you to be part of learning and growing in your walk with the Lord as you become Women of the Word. Come alongside other women of God as you embark in a featured study on Wednesday mornings. WOMEN OF GRACE HOPE CHAPEL This wonderful Bible study group meets every other Thursday evening. We invite you to learn with us as we go through the Holy Scriptures and a highlighted study topic. The Women of Grace welcome you with open arms.

6 WOMEN (Cont.) KNIT, CROCHET & PRAY HOPE CHAPEL This group involves hooks, needles, yarn, fellowship and fun. Bring your talents to make something to share. Projects will be donated to an appropriate ministry at Hope Chapel. Beginners and learners are welcome. Must provide your own supplies. WOMEN S PRAYER BREAKFASTS HOPE CHAPEL The Women s Prayer Breakfasts are times we gather together for the purpose of praying for our church, our families, our community and nation, healings and other needs. We begin with a short time of fellowship, where coffee and a light breakfast are served. Watch the bulletin for dates. H.E.L.P.S HOPE CHAPEL Help. Encourage. Love. Pray. Serve. The HELPS ministry presents opportunities to serve others in love with your gifts, talents, and abilities. whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. MARKERS HOPE CHAPEL Markers is our summer speaker series 10 weeks, 10 topics, 10 speakers all pointing to the foundational truths of scripture that mark out the path we walk as Christian women. We include worship and fellowship time to grow in our relationships with other women as well as with God. Come and hear from a variety of speakers who live out their faith as they point people to Christ. FOR WOMEN ONLY HOPE CHAPEL Each year we have two For Women Only luncheons each with great speakers, worship, fellowship and food. They are wonderful opportunities to bring your friends and meet new people. Watch the bulletin for dates. WOMEN S RETREAT Each fall, we have a Women s Retreat that features worship, a wonderful speaker, fun activities, delicious food and time to relax. The retreats are an excellent time for moms and daughters, sisters, co-workers, homeschool moms and friends young and old to get away and spend time growing spiritually and building relationships with each other.

7 CHILDREN HOPE KIDS Hope Kids is our children s ministry that meets during weekend worship services. We offer a program for children ages 3 months- 11years old while their parents attend service in the main auditorium. We use a biblically based curriculum to teach the basics of Christianity by caring & trained volunteers & staff. The Bible stories, worship, crafts, puppet shows and fun classroom activities focus on learning the Word of God & developing a growing relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ. AWANA (ages 5-10) HOPE CHAPEL AWANA helps churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus Christ. Our programs offer a proven approach for evangelizing and discipling kids in the church and community. In 2013, churches and local ministries in 100+ countries reached 2 million children through the ministry of AWANA. Carried out by missionaries, churches, ministry partners, advocates, leaders, parents, volunteers and faithful supporters since 1950, together we have been working toward raising up a new generation of Christ followers. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS) HOPE CHAPEL A week-long summer day camp for children ages 4-10 years old focused on diving deeper into the word of God through Bible stories, crafts, games, and many fun, hands-on activities. YOUTH (Jr. High and High School age) HIGH SCHOOL HOPE CHAPEL Tuesday Nights, 7-9 pm A typical night consists of a time of worship and praise led by our youth worship teams, small groups, and a short sermon by one of our youth pastors, leaders or even by a student. Feel free to come early and hang out late. Doors are open from 6-10 pm. Come hang out with friends, play pool, carpet ball, ping pong, basketball, and air hockey. JUNIOR HIGH HOPE CHAPEL Friday Nights, 6-8 pm A typical night consists of a time of worship and praise lead by our youth worship teams, small groups, and a short sermon by one of our youth pastors, leaders or even by a student. Feel free to come early and hang out late. Doors are open from 5-9 pm. Come hang out with friends, play pool, carpet ball, ping pong, basketball, and air hockey.

8 YOUTH (Cont.) HUME LAKE SUMMER CAMP HUME LAKE Join us as we spend a week at Hume Lake Christian Camps located in Sequoia National Park in central California. HLCC has been putting on relevant, fun, transformational Christian camp programs since 1946, and has a reputation of being the premier Christian Camp in the nation. Today they are seeing, on average, 18,000 kids attend their camps each summer. WINTER CAMP Similar to summer camp, we take our youth away for a weekend filled with community, snow, and the Gospel. Located in the heart of Big Bear, we run our own private camp, fueled by a strong, clear Gospel message in hopes to impact our Junior High and High School Ministry students for our Lord Jesus Christ. MISSION TRIPS During Spring Break and Summer vacation, a team of students serve locally and globally as we carry out the Great Commission and share the love of Christ with those in need. Previous mission trips have included local outreach to Venice and Santa Monica, homeless shelters in downtown Los Angeles, and global missions to Puerto Escondido, Mexico. These outreaches are perfect for Christian youth who desire to put their gifts into practice and serve the community. ROBOTICS TEAM HOPE CHAPEL Hope Chapel s high school robotics team (Beach Bots, team #330) competes nationally through the FIRST robotics competition. The team has won over 10 Regional Robotics Competitions and was World Champion in 2005 and TRAIL LIFE USA (Boys, ages 11-18) HOPE CHAPEL Trail Life USA is a Christian adventure, character, and leadership program for young men. The program centers on outdoor experiences that build a young man s skills and allow him to grow on a personal level, and as a role model and leader for his peers. Living the Trail Life is a journey established on timeless values derived from the Bible. AMERICAN HERITAGE GIRLS (ages 11-18) HOPE CHAPEL American Heritage Girls is the premier national character development organization for young women that embraces Christian values and encourages family involvement and is dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country. The organization offers badge programs, service projects, girl leadership opportunities, and outdoor experiences to its members. REACHING THE HEART OF YOUR TEEN HOPE CHAPEL A 10-week course for parents of teens from years old. This core curriculum lays the groundwork for your parenting, no matter where you are in the process. In this group, we will look at the many factors that make living with a teenager a blessing or a curse. It exposes the notions of secular myth and brings to light the proven how-to applications of building and maintaining healthy relationships with your teens. We highly recommend that you take this course with your teenage children as a united family.

9 YOUNG ADULTS HOPE CHAPEL TUESDAY NIGHT HOPE CHAPEL This is a service targeting a new generation of young adults who want to follow Jesus. Come participate in authentic, energetic worship and be encouraged through passionate and dynamic teaching! SENIORS KOINONIA HOPE CHAPEL This group is for those 45 years and older. On the first Sunday of the month, we feature a Christian movie. On the third Sunday, the meetings include worship, Bible-study, prayer, refreshments and fellowship. We also have periodic outings. MARRIAGE THE ART OF MARRIAGE VIDEO SERIES TORRANCE Unlike traditional marriage conferences that may feature only one speaker, The Art of Marriage brings together some of the most respected and influential pastors and experts on marriage and family all in one setting. It also brings a fresh approach to a video event by weaving together engaging, real-life stories, testimonies, man-on-the street interviews and humorous vignettes to help couples fully experience God s design for marriage. LOVE & RESPECT REDONDO BEACH Introducing the much-anticipated workbook to the groundbreaking book by the same title, Love & Respect. Based upon Ephesians 5:33 and extensive Biblical research, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs reveals the power of unconditional love and unconditional respect and how husbands and wives can reap the benefits of marriage that God intended. DEAF FELLOWSHIP HOPE CHAPEL DEAF FELLOWSHIP We are a family of people who love God and are actively committed to loving and caring for one another. We ve committed ourselves to learning more about our Savior and becoming life-long followers of Jesus Christ. It is our desire to bridge the gap between the hearing and the deaf community as we realize His plan for our lives through Bible study, prayer, worship, fellowship, serving and sharing our faith. 10 TECHNICAL MINISTRIES The below technical ministries utilize digital and visual technology to deliver stories that bring people to know the Gospel, to know God and what it means to serve Him and His kingdom. Some of what the Media Arts department does is coordinate Hope Chapel s sound system and create videos using a variety of media. Volunteers involved in this ministry have previous experience with digital photography and have knowledge of editing material. AUDIO MINISTRY HOPE CHAPEL Audio Ministry provides audio and recording support for the worship services and other ministry events. This ministry is for those who are technically gifted and have a passion for sound technology. VIDEO MINISTRY HOPE CHAPEL Video Ministry provides video recording support for the worship services and other ministry events. Service videos are made available for viewing by DVD or online. This ministry is for those who are technically gifted and have a passion for video technology. Some ministry responsibilities include camera set up, operating, and tear down, as well as video editing and archiving. MEDIA MINISTRY HOPE CHAPEL Media Ministry provides video projection support for the worship services and other ministry events. This ministry is for those who are technically gifted and have a passion for the preparation and operation of projection screen graphics. Graphics include coordinating song lyrics, sermon notes, and other projection screen functions. PHOTOGRAPHY MINISTRY HOPE CHAPEL Photography Ministry captures church life in still pictures and provides images to support graphic needs in the church. This ministry is for those who are gifted in photography and have a desire to serve. MEDIA ARTS MINISTRY HOPE CHAPEL Media Arts Ministry utilizes digital and visual technology to deliver stories intended to instruct, uplift and encourage, as well as present the Gospel and reveal aspects of God and His Kingdom. This ministry is for those who are gifted in photography, videography, producing, and directing. WORSHIP ARTS MINISTRY Worship Arts Ministry exists to provide opportunities for the church to worship and sing praises to God. This ministry is for those who are musically gifted and have a passion to serve.

MORNING PRAYER HOPE CHAPEL All are welcome to join us any day, Tuesday-Friday from 7:00-8:00 am as we meet together to pray for our church, community and nation. HOPE CHAPEL PRAYER CHAIN Our Prayer Chain is a small group of selected individuals who intercede for the needs of others through prayer. If you have a prayer request you can call and leave a confidential message for the prayer chain at , ext 318. OUTREACH HOPE IN ACTION HOPE CHAPEL Hope in Action reaches out to the poor, hungry, homeless, abused, addicted and broken hearted in our community. We listen, pray, make referrals when necessary and most importantly, we tell them about the hope that Jesus offers. We encourage members to rely on the Lord s forgiveness, love, mercy and grace to sustain them in the midst of difficult times. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. EVANGELISM ADVENTURES FRIDAYS (Hour of Power) HOPE CHAPEL Join us for a one-hour excursion as we share our faith at the Redondo Beach Pier or LAX every Friday. EVANGELISM ADVENTURES SATURDAYS HOPE CHAPEL Put your faith into action by joining the Evangelism Team for various adventures in the L.A. area. Meet at the top of the stairs at Hope Chapel. Some special events are scheduled on other days besides Saturdays. Pick up a monthly schedule in the Fellowship Hallway. FIESTA HERMOSA HOPE CHAPEL Please join us the months of May (Memorial Day) and September (Labor Day) as we evangelize at the Fiesta Hermosa in Hermosa Beach. We have a booth where we pass out tracts and give the intelligence test which is a tool we use to spread the Word of God.

12 OUTREACH (Cont.) EASTER EGG HUNT HERMOSA VALLEY PARK A free community outreach for the entire family held at the Hermosa Valley Park. This special fun event features a 35,000 Easter egg hunt, bounce houses, game booths, face painting, bubble show, family photos and more! Free parking and shuttle service offered from Hope Capel to the park. There are multiple ways to serve from donating plastic Easter eggs and candy, stuffing the Easter eggs, event set-up and break-down, to parking and operating a game booth. We need 100 volunteers to host this event each year. We hope you will consider partnering with us in serving our local community. HARVEST PARTY HOPE CHAPEL A free community outreach for the entire family held on the evening of October 31st at Hope Chapel. This special event is a fun, safe alternative to Halloween; game booths, bounce houses, puppet shows, rides, and free candy are just a few of the attractions. A festive carnival type atmosphere where everyone is invited. HOPE ON THE STREETS GARDENA Join us as we live out what Jesus said in Luke 4:18 when He says He came to proclaim the good news to the poor and liberty to the prisoners. This is accomplished through preaching the Word, feeding the hungry and ministering to the hurting. BEACH CLEAN-UP Come join us as we clean our South Bay beaches and surrounding areas. Let s be a light in our community! We meet at Hope Chapel at 8:45am to carpool. Watch the bulletin for dates. HOSPITALITY USHERS/GREETERS MINISTRY Each service needs men and women who make a pledge to serve as an usher or greeter (1 Timothy 3:8-13). No previous experience required; training will be provided. HE-BREWS COFFEE BAR MINISTRY Become a barista and serve in our coffee bar ministry. Each service is in need of men and women willing to serve fresh brewed coffee with a smile. No previous barista experience necessary; training will be provided.

13 HOPE CHAPEL MISSIONS OUTREACHES One world one country one person at a time won over for Christ Our missions outreach trips allow the opportunity to experience short-term, crosscultural ministry and become educated about world missions. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19. MEXICO The Jones family has been ministering to the people in Puerto Escondido, Mexico since The Refuge is their base of operations where they gather to worship, fellowship, where outreach teams stay while working in the community, serves as a home for travelers who want to grow closer to God and a learning facility for young and old alike. It is also the home of their Dolphin Soccer Academy their local community outreach that draws non-churched, Christ-needy youth to the feet of Jesus. NICARAGUA Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America with over 6 million people of which half are under the age of 15. It is also the 2nd poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere (next only to Haitti). For the last 8 years we have partnered with CICRIN orphanage on the island of Ometepe where we have built a school for more than 80 students from CICRIN and the surrounding community of Los Angeles! In a country with an authoritarian government and much residual Communist ideals, we are impacting the next generation with an education based on the Word of God. Our main focus is discipleship, construction and the implementation of self-sustaining programs for long term impact. Nicaragua annual missions trips are taken in the late part of summer each year. ECUADOR An orphanage on the coast of Ayampe is under construction to help provide housing to the over 200,000 orphans living on the streets of Ecuador. Jenica Brigham s vision is to take children that are neglected or abandoned by their families into a safe, nurturing and loving environment where they can learn about the hope and love of Jesus. A small bed and breakfast is also under construction to support funding of the orphanage. ISRAEL Founded by Moran Rosenblit, this outreach aims to bring the hope of the Messiah back to Israel. Since the year 2000, God has built this ministry to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Israel and the body of believers in the Land. They are continually blessed to grow in the number of people they are able to serve through their humanitarian projects and investments in the local Jewish and Arab believers.

14 HOPE CHAPEL MISSIONS OUTREACHES (Cont.) CHINA Perry and Hannah Ching have moved to Hainan Island in the South China Sea at the southern end of the country, and are busy planting a new ministry to reach the Chinese people in that area. They offer both short and extended mission-participation opportunities. Hope Chapel members Brian and Winnie Sato will continue to shepherd the existing church in Beijing through their missions trips from Hope Chapel. Hope for China exists to teach, train and share our lives with this generation of our brothers and sisters in China. VIETNAM Hope for Vietnam exists to help the poor, sick, and needy in Vietnam for over twenty years. Their goal is to share the Good News of the Gospel in different villages and the elderly center (70+). They also assist Pastors, students, lepers, orphans and provide child sponsorship by building water wells and supporting house churches. UGANDA The Hope For Uganda Missions Outreach is a short-term missions trip that takes place about every two or three years during the summer. We partner with local ministries/churches on the ground in Uganda to provide pastoral training, music training as well as sharing the Gospel. SWAZILAND The Hope For Swaziland Missions Outreach is a short-term missions trip to the country of Swaziland where we participate with a local orphanage bringing the hope of Christ to the orphaned children in a third-world nation. RECREATION CAMPING MINISTRY Come learn to relax with a group of other Christian believers all seeking the quiet comforts of the great outdoors. Each month from April through October, we plan exciting adventures to one of Southern California s beautiful camp sites. Whether you sleep in tents, under the stars, or in a recreation vehicle, allow yourself to spend time with God, your family and your friends in His domain. SURF MINISTRY Attention all surfing enthusiast! Come join us as we surf and grow together in Christ! We meet at the Manhattan Beach Pier in front of the Lifeguard Operations Tower. 15 CYCLING CLUB Are you passionate about prayer, nutrition and sharing the Gospel through road cycling? If so, join Mark Jacobs as he leads a weekly group in preparing to share the Gospel on the road! Watch the bulletin for dates. WOMEN S WALKING GROUP HERMOSA BEACH Ladies, please join us as we take time together to fellowship and stretch our legs while exercising. We meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Watch the bulletin for dates. CHRISTIAN MOVIES TORRANCE (North) Let s have fun watching Christian movies together. Both men & women are welcome to join. CHURCHWIDE FAMILY PICNIC Join us for a day in the sun as we fellowship with our family and friends at our annual Church Family Picnic. SUMMER BEACH VOLLEYBALL FELLOWSHIP MANHATTAN BEACH Join us as we celebrate God s glory by playing volleyball on the beach. We will have a time of prayer and devotion followed by as many volleyball games as we can play. Come out and enjoy the fellowship in the sun.
