1 West Broadway Baptist Church Volume 14 Issue From Our Pastor As we focus on the Year of Inviting, we are creating a new opportunity for you to invite others into your life and spiritual journey called the Family Table. The Family Table is going to be made up of people (singles, couples, entire families) who want to get to know others in their church family better. Participants will be placed into a group with others to share a meal of their choosing. Eat out. Eat in. Eat any meal. You and your group s choice! We will start connecting groups on May 12th. We all know our family in our Sunday school, but who is our family across the aisle? Sharon and I are excited to be a part of this fellowship opportunity, and I hope you will participate as well. Also, we have two upcoming WBBC mission trips. In May, several members from the church will be serving in Eastern Kentucky. In July, Adam Burton and I will be ministering with 20schemes among the urban poor in Scotland. Please be in prayer for much fruit from both of these trips. If you would like to contribute to help support these trips, you may designate gifts to the Missions Fund. 2 From Our Associate Pastor May is here already and the beauty of summer is approaching with newness of life and energy. I'm reminded of the new life God brings to us in Jesus Christ. He takes the darkness of death in our souls and gives us life eternal. He plants in us a seed from which to birth new life. We are then called to nurture that seed and persevere until it becomes completed or perfected. How do we do that? The Bible makes it clear that we must study His word, the Bible. David spent all of Psalm 119 declaring all of the benefits of knowing and meditating on God's word. He called it "a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." We have also been given the wonderful privilege of being able to communicate with God through prayer. Jesus thought prayer with God was so important that He taught His disciples how to do it. We call this teaching the Lord's Prayer. It is only through Bible study and prayer that we can blossom into the beautiful flower that God has intended for us to become. May we commit to bloom and grow that we may bless our community and world with the beautiful message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray specifically for your sister churches, for new church plants, and for the people of our city who need to see the love of Jesus on display. Statistics indicate that upwards of 85-90% of our neighbors in Louisville don t have a personal relationship with Jesus. Let us press into our mission to pray and to give faithfully to multiply the effort. 3 I would first like to start by thanking you, church family, for financially supporting our youth ministry during our Chick-fil-A and Spaghetti Lunch Fundraisers. Combined, we raised about $1,150 with these two fundraisers. This money will greatly offset the cost of our summer mission trip to Chicago. We have another Chick-fil-A fundraiser on June 5, One other way you can support us financially without costing you anything is registering your Kroger Card online with West Broadway Baptist Church. Visit and create an account if you do not already have one. Once your account is created, register your Kroger Card. Then you can support our organization (West Broadway Baptist Church). Our Organization Number is A portion of what you spend will be given to us each quarter. On Wednesday nights this summer, we are splitting up the boys and girl and will study biblical manhood and womanhood. After each study, we are bringing back our Wednesday Night Hangouts. By the time you read this newsletter, I will be starting my fourth year as Youth Minister of West Broadway Baptist Church. These last three years have truly been a blessing to me and my family. I am so grateful for how you have loved all of us. Faithfully, Adam WBBC Kids Treehouse Teach Reach Encourage Excite West Broadway Baptist Church children s ministry exist to teach, reach, encourage and excite our children to glorify God. June 21, 2018 Wood Cross Paint Night 6:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. This will be a fun night to paint a wood cross with your own colors and creativity. You can paint a cross with a child or one of your own. This event is for school age children, teens, and adults only. All materials will be included along with snacks in the fellowship hall. Cost is $20 for a 12 cross and $30 for a 18 cross. Payment is due with registration by June 3 rd at the Welcome Center.

4 BesideU for Life BABY BOTTLE COLLECTION BesideU for Life is committed to presenting the gospel of our Lord in word and deed by educating women facing crisis pregnancies, responding to their needs, and protecting the lives of unborn children. Pick up some baby bottles from the counter outside the church office on Mother s Day, Sunday, May 13 and return them on Father s Day, Sunday, June 17. Fill it with spare change, cash, or a check (made out to A Woman s Choice Resource Center). WBBC s goal is to fill 70 bottles! Parent/Child Dedication On Sunday, May 13th, we will have a Parent/Child Dedication during the morning worship service. If you are interested in participating or have questions, please contact Teresa Cox by May 6th. EASTERN KY MISSION Trip May 25-28, 2018 Our Eastern KY Mission Trip is May 25th-28th at Hardburly Baptist Church in Bulan, Kentucky. We need our church family to (1) pray; (2) donate to help fund the trip; and (3) donate canned and dry goods to restock their food pantry. Please see list in the Welcome Center for suggested food items. Bins for food donations are also located in the Welcome Center and donations are needed by Sunday, May 20th. Oh, snap! You forgot to write your check or you forgot to bring it with you. Sound familiar? Did you know you can set up an auto bill pay through your bank and you ll never have to write that check again? A few of our members are doing this and it s the most economical option of on-line giving. It doesn t cost anything to use the service and there is no service fee for the church. Simply tell the bank how much the check should be and how often you want it sent. The check is regularly sent to the church and you are notified. You will need the church s account number, but we ll gladly share that information with you if you are interested. Just call the church office if you would like that information. Girls will learn about God s ecosystem in Bernheim Forest. They will discover ways to take care of God s earth and how that can be used to share the Good News of Jesus. A missionary will join us for this exploration. Our day begins at 10:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm. Bring a picnic lunch, water bottle, and hiking shoes and join us for this eco-friendly, missions-friendly day! 1st-6th grade girls and their leaders. $12 per person, due May 31st. One Free adult for every 1-7 girls. Fee includes nature class, crafts, and snacks. A $5 parking fee per carload will be accepted at the gate. See Cathy Mattingly if you are interested in this event. Only God Himself fully appreciates the influence of a Christian mother in the molding of character in her children. Billy Graham Jeffersontown Area Ministries Yard Sale June Prayer Corner Loving God, we thank you for the love of the mothers you have given us, whose love is so precious that it can never be measured, whose patience seems to have no end. May we see your loving hand behind them and guiding them. We pray for those mothers who fear they will run out of love, or time, or patience. We ask you to bless them with your own special love. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen Jeffersontown Area Ministries will host a yard sale on June in the basement of Jeffersontown Christian Church. The funds raised are used throughout the year to provide crisis assistance to families with housing, utilities, food, and medical needs. Please see list of needed items in the Welcome Center.
