2 Another Anne Bradstreet This poem expresses the want and need for the attention of the man the speaker loves. Someone is missed dearly and the speaker is not able to get to them. The man is no longer around and the she wants him to come back desperately. She has an absence of love and yearns for it. It's almost as if the poem could be a letter to a lost loved one.

3 To My Dear and Loving This poem describes the compatibility Husband between the speaker and her Anne Bradstreet husband. She explains that she cannot and does not want to live without his love. She knows she can never re-pay him for what he's personally given to her. The speaker uses imagery to show how strong her feelings are for him. She also believes that if the two of them persevere, their love will be able to last forever.

4 Contemplations Anne Bradstreet In this poem, it seems that the speaker has gone through rough times. He sees the reality of spoiled humans and believes that some never see the dark side of life. The speaker explains that some people experience more than others, but they take that for granted. In the last stanza, it seems they feel that real heroes in this world, do not get recognized for their work. God will see these people and reward them for eternity.

5 Before the Birth of One of Her Children The speaker looks at the aspect of Anne Bradstreet death. She seems to be directing everything towards her husband. She is almost preparing for life without him and she hopes he remembers her by her most admirable traits. The poem is very personal. It refers to her likelihood of death in childbirth. This would have been very familiar to others during this time period.

6 Huswifery Edward Taylor Huswifery uses a spinning wheel to show the good qualities of a working house wife with God. This poem follows the Christian/ Puritan beliefs. The speaker wants to have these qualities and follow the Lord. They want to give their soul to the him and become a better person. Huswifery was common in the 17th century. The tasks of a Puritan house wife back then were spinning and weaving, which is where the allegory comes from.

7 Upon a Spider Catching A Fly Edward Taylor This poem by Edward Taylor uses so much allegory. The spider represents Satan trying entangle people into his evil, through sin. The insects that escape the web show that God can easily break Satan's web and save anyone on this lovely earth. With this, the poem lets you infer that by the graciousness of God, man can live with joy and protection.

8 Meditation 150 (Second Series) Edward Taylor This poem compares the Church, to a mother nursing her child and it sort of floats away from typical Puritan writing because of the imagery used. Milk is a source of nourishment which is compared to the glorious Church. Taylor also uses his own opinion on how marriage can unite God and the Church. This poem, is yet another great example of allegory.

9 Meditation Eight (First Series) Edward Taylor The bread of life is looked upon from various angles. It talks about how you could eat physically but it does not help your soul. Not everyone has food, but with the grace of God things will work out. In the poem, God provides the food for the soul. The situation becomes better and it almost seems like a lesson learned. If you believe and trust in God, the right path will be upon you soon enough.

11 Poem 1 Ashley Sutherland The rich become more rich, The poor become more poor. A never ending cycle There seems to be no cure. Some live on the streets, Others in mansions The middle class is struggling The rich do not need room for expansion. Some may help Others ignore, But they seem to see it as a bore. They are our people So let's make sure We help them out And come up with our own cure!

12 Poem 2 Ashley Sutherland Teens are, fighting, bullying, and laughing. Doing drugs and quitting school While they're suppose to be graphing That polynomial function with our new cool tool. The IPads help Though many do complain. What would we do without them now Things in school just wouldn't be the same. So thank your teachers, parents, and that one good influence For helping you bring out your brilliance.

13 Poem 3 Ashley Sutherland Someone cares Deep down you know it's true, So pick your head up child Don't be so darn blue. It may not seem like it now But things will work out. The pain your feeling Is just a temporary cloud.
