4 Adoration Deacon: (+) Blessed be God: creator, redeemer, and sustainer. Congregation: And blessed is God s kin-dom, now and forever. Amen. O God, Beyond All Praising O God beyond all praising we worship you today and sing the love amazing that song cannot repay: for we can only wonder at every gift you send, at blessings without number and mercies without end. We lift our hearts before you and wait upon your word, we honor and adore you our great and mighty Lord. Readings Priest and poet John Banister Tabb wrote: Out of the dusk a shadow, then, a spark. Out of the cloud a silence, then, a lark. Out of the heart a rapture, then, a pain. Out of the dead, cold ashes, Life again. In these human words, God s voice is heard. Thanks be to God. Please rise as you are able. Gradual Now the Green Blade Rises Now the green blade rises from the buried grain; wheat that in dark earth for many days has lain. Love lives again, that with the dead had been: Love is come again like wheat that rises green. When our hearts are wintry, grieving or in pain, Christ s warm touch can call us back to life again. Fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been: Love is come again like wheat that rises green. (+) The Good News as recorded in the Fourth Gospel (John , 18a): Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him. Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed Then the disciples returned to their homes But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? She said to them, They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him. When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? [For] whom are you looking? Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus said to her, Mary! She turned and said to him in Hebrew, Rabbouni! (which means Teacher). Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, I have seen the Lord. In these human words, God s voice is heard. Congregation: I believe in God, the Good, and in the message and mission of God s anointed prophet, Jesus the Wayshower who was born of Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was executed for empowering the powerless and restoring the dignity of the marginalized, and yet he lives in our hearts and ministry. I believe in the omnipresent power of divine Love, in the Blessed Community, in the sacred value of all people, and in life without end. Amen. Intercessions The Prayer of Faith God is my help in every need; God does my ever hunger feed; God walks beside me, guides my way through every moment of the day. Deacon: Let us pray for our loved ones, our neighbors, our leaders, our nation, the community of nations, those who feel poor or unsafe or unwell, for our church, and for all who have been entrusted to the care of our prayers. Congregation: May they be filled with loving-kindness; may they be well. May they be peaceful and at ease; and may they be happy. Deacon: And let us affirm blessings for our lives. Congregation: There is good for us and we ought to have it. Deacon: Let us remember our loved ones who have died (+). Congregation: To God, all are alive. (+) Blessed in the one who comes in the name of our God! Hosanna in the highest! The Lord s Supper Jesus took the bread, daily gift of God, formed of wheat and sweat and toil, sun, rain, and sod. In our hands we take gifts of bread and wine, gathered from the fields of earth, signs of love divine. Jesus blessed the bread, thanked the God of grace, thanked the One who made all worlds, all time, all space. Blessing, honor, praise, all to God belong. Let us lift our hearts to God in a thankful song. Jesus broke the bread; then he poured the wine, broken body, life poured out, God gives as sign. Weak, afraid, and lost: that is when we re healed. In our human brokenness: there God is revealed. Invitation to Communion Jesus gives the bread at our table still, gives the cup to those who seek God s loving will. Let us go in peace; let us freely give, sharing love with all the world daily as we live.
