2 FROM FR. JOHN: Afterward I said to them: You see the trouble we are in: how Jerusalem lies in ruins and its gates have been gutted by ire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, so that we may no longer be a reproach! Then I explained to them how God had shown his gracious favor to me, and what the king had said to me. They replied, Let us begin building! And they undertook the work with vigor. When they heard about this, Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite of icial, and Geshem the Arab mocked and ridiculed us. What are you doing? they asked. Are you rebelling against the king? My answer to them was this: It is the God of heaven who will grant us success. We, his servants, shall set about the rebuilding; but you have neither share nor claim nor memorial in Jerusalem. Nehemiah 2:17-20 We of icially launched A Campaign for St. Paul the Apostle Parish last fall. I imagine that you are probably getting a little tired of hearing about it. While I completely understand (in fact, I m getting a little tired of talking about it!), I think it s very important that I give you an update based on the results from our two Amen Weekends. We are now conducting the inal phase of our Campaign and I imagine that you d like to know how things are going and where we re currently at in our Campaign. Our Amen Weekends were very successful. We surpassed our goal of raising $100,000 during the two weekends that would be matched with an additional matching gift $100,000. During these two weekends, we raised $160,831 in new pledges from 82 families, plus $26,800 in increased pledges from 10 families who had previously made a pledge. This means that we raised $187,631 plus the matching gift of $ for total of $287, 631 during our Amen Weekends. Our Campaign has now raised $2,171,635 in gifts and pledges from 370 families! As you know, our Campaign goal is $2,350,000 which means we only need to raise another $178,365 to meet our goal. Our Buildings and Grounds committee met this past Wednesday to begin the detailed planning and design stage of our renovations. Unfortunately, I am writing this article on Monday to meet the bulletin publisher s deadline. I will have more about our detailed plans and design in a future bulletin article but we hope to begin construction on the convent building next year in the late spring or early summer. I want to thank everyone that has made a commitment to our Campaign. I am humbled and thankful for the generosity of St. Paul parishioners. We have had great success so far, we are almost at the inish line and all we need to do is have a strong inish in order to complete our capital campaign. I pray that you will take some time to re lect on the need for this Campaign and make a pledge if you have not already done so. I could not be more enthusiastic about our future, and I would like to humbly thank you for your support of this effort, and invite you to speak with me if you have any questions. St. Thomas Aquinas once wrote that We must not merely will our neighbors good but actually work to bring it about. I want to tell all of you how proud I am of everything that you have accomplished over this past year. Many, many members of our parish have worked incredibly hard bring about the good work that our Parish Campaign has been for our community. I want to thank the many volunteers for all their efforts. They have spent hours calling and visiting with families and I would like to thank them all for their very, very generous commitment of time. To paraphrase St. Thomas, the people of this parish have done the actual work to bring about the success that we have had.

7 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time 03 July 2016 Be sensuous. Be bold. Be sent. Two great stories are heard today. Isaiah invites us to look around and notice how a mother comforts her child. God says to Israel: That s exactly how I comfort you. And God says it to us today! So let us be bold and be like God. Give comfort. Luke invites us to go ahead of the Lord, just like the 72 sent out to the nations. Say Peace. Then take care of the sick. Can we be bold just like them? Who needs comfort today? What will I do? Who is sick? What peace and comfort will I bring? How will I be bold? Sunday, July 3rd, 2016 In today s Gospel Jesus sends the 72 out to tell the people the good news. We are each called by Christ to go out to all the world and tell the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Do we reflect the love of Christ in our relationships, especially our marriage relationship? Sign up today to attend one of the upcoming Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends on August 12-14, 2016 or October 7-9, 2016 or December 9-11, 2016, all at Elk Grove Village, IL.
