Session ONE Get In

OUR PRAYER FOR YOU I ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers. EPHESIANS 1:17-18 MSG Session ONE 05

YOUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH CONSISTS OF FOUR STEPS. 1. GET IN a real relationship with God. [I pray]...that you may know Him better [personally]. EPHESIANS 1:17-18 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. MATTHEW 7: GET HEALTHY and find freedom. [I pray]...that the eyes of your heart be enlightened [focused and clear]. EPHESIANS 1:17-18 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. JAMES 5:16 06 Session ONE

3. GET STRONG by discovering your God-given potential in Christ. [I pray]...that you may know the hope to which He has called you. EPHESIANS 1:17-18 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. ROMANS 12:6 All of you together are Christ s body, and each of you is a part of it. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:27 4., GET GOING and make a difference. [I pray]... that you may grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life He has for his followers [in His holy people]. EPHESIANS 1:17-18 This is to my Father s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. JOHN 15:8, 11 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 PETER 4:10 NLT Session ONE 07

KNOW GOD Sin breaks our close relationship with God. It causes us to fear God and try to live our lives outside of His will. The wages of sin is death, BUT the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. ROMANS 6:23 But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ROMANS 5:8 God is on one side and all people are on the other side, and Christ Jesus is between them to bring them together, by giving His life for all mankind. 1 TIMOTHY 2:5-6 TLB God has already done His part to restore our relationship to Him. He took the initiative, and now He waits for each of us to individually accept what He has done for us. 08 Session ONE

HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN 1. REALIZE that God has not been at the center of your life and confess your sins. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 JOHN 1:9 2. BELIEVE that Jesus died to pay for my sins, and that He rose from the dead and is alive today. If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. ROMANS 10:9-10 NLT Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name [Jesus] under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. ACTS 4:12 We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. 1 THESSALONIANS 4:14 Session ONE 09

RED SHIRT TEAM MEMBER 3. ACCEPT God s free gift of salvation. Don t try to earn it. For it is by grace you are saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. EPHESIANS 2:8-9 Our relationship with God is not restored by anything we do, but on the basis of what Jesus already did for us! 4. INVITE Jesus Christ back into the center of your life. To all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. All they needed to do was to trust Him to save them. All those who believe this are reborn! not a physical rebirth resulting from human passionor plan but from the will of God. JOHN 1:12-13 TLB Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in REVELATION 3:20 HCSB 10 Session ONE

YOU CAN TAKE THESE STEPS BY PRAYING A SIMPLE PRAYER OF COMMITMENT TO GOD: Dear Jesus, thank You for creating me and for loving me, even when I ve gone my own way. I realize now that I need a relationship with You, and I m sorry for my sins. I ask You to forgive me. Thank You for dying on the cross for me. As much as I know how, I want to follow You from now on. Please come into my life, and make me a new person. I accept your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow now as a Christian. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. ROMANS 10:13 Get the on what it means to be a Christian: Check out Faith Basics online. A Discussion of Christian Essentials thechapel.cc/fb Session ONE 11

HOW TO HAVE THE BEST RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD From the very beginning of time, God gave us a choice of how we could be in relationship with Him. It is illustrated in the story of the two trees in the Garden of Eden: Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there He put the man he had formed. The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the treeof the knowledge of good and evil. GENESIS 2:8-9 And the LORD God commanded the man, You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will certainly die. GENESIS 2: Session ONE

WHAT S THE DIFFERENCE? 1. I can DO MORE or I can receive what has. BEEN DONE You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life. JOHN 5: I can try to earn APPROVAL or I can receive. GOD S LOVE FOR ME But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ROMANS 5:8 3. I can obey out of DUTY or I can obey out of. DELIGHT If you love me, you will obey my commands. JOHN 14:15 NCV A life-giving church is about, RELATIONSHIP not. RELIGION Session ONE 13

WATER BAPTISM We practice baptism by immersion in water, which is the way Jesus was baptized and the way the Bible describes. At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, He saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove. MARK 1:9-10 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. MATTHEW 28:19 Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. MATTHEW 10:32-33 By being water baptized, you are: 1. Following the EXAMPLE set by Christ. 2. Showing a CHANGE in your. LIFE 3. Committing PUBLICLY to follow Christ. Water baptism is an outward symbol of an inward change. 14 Session ONE

YOUR NEXT STEPS: 1. Become a believer and follower of Christ. (You can use the prayer on page 11 as a guide.) 2. Learn the essentials of Christianity. (Faith Basics is available at thechapel.cc/fb) 3. Celebrate your new life in Christ through water baptism. (If you missed the opportunity today, check the website for the next date. thechapel.cc/baptism) 4. Complete all four steps of the Growth Track Session ONE - Get In Session TWO - Get Healthy Session THREE - Get Strong Session FOUR - Get Going Session ONE 15

THECHAPEL STORY thechapel was born out of a deep love and passion for the House of God. We believe that the local church is God s plan for the world and that a community should look different when there s a life-giving church in the area. Mark Quattrochi, Lead Pastor at thechapel, was raised in a hard-working Italian family in Brooklyn, New York. He served as an altar boy in their local Parish where he developed a deep love for God s house. After a career in the music industry spanning 20 years, he returned to his first love and began to lead in the church. In 2009, Pastor Q and his wife Trish felt God leading them to plant a church. With support from the Association of Related Churches (ARC) and Grace Family Church in Tampa, some great families pulled together to plant the church. The doors opened on January 17, 2010 to a capacity crowd. thechapel is built to equip and empower people to reach their God-given potential through their relationship with Christ. Every individual represents a piece of thechapel. We each have a part to play in moving God s Kingdom forward. We re here to help you discover yours. Session TWO 17

THECHAPEL PURPOSE We believe God has always had it in His heart to guide people along a four-step spiritual journey. 1. GET IN 2. GET HEALTHY 3. GET STRONG 4. GET GOING THEELEMENT STUDENT GATHERING 18 Session TWO

Get in a relationship with God. WEEKENDS develop our relationship with God. The weekend services are focused on two things: 1. WORSHIP 2. THE WORD Worship determines our relationship to God. The Word determines our relationship with God. Session TWO 19

HOW TO HELP PEOPLE KNOW GOD 1. Accept the personal. RESPONSIBILITY 2. Build a personal. RELATIONSHIP 3. Share your personal. STORY 4. Give a personal. INVITATION We move the Kingdom forward in our community, our nation and the world. You will be my witnesses Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. ACTS 1:8 20 Session TWO

thechapel is not just a place you go to, but a place you go from. 1. In Jerusalem -. OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight. JAMES 1:27 MSG. The primary way we reach our local community is through partnerships with local non-profits. 2. In Judea and Samaria -. OUR NATION Whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with him so that he will let me tell him about Christ and let Christ save him. 1 CORINTHIANS 9:22 TLB The primary way we reach our nation is by starting new churches, and by coaching church leaders. We re part of planting hundreds of new churches every year through the Association of Related Churches (ARC), and we coach leaders through Relate coaching. 3. To the ends of the earth -. OUR WORLD Jesus said to His followers, Go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good News to everyone. MARK 16:15 NCV The primary way we reach our world is through short-term missions trips. Session TWO 21

Sounds great So how do I go from? 1. PRAY Pray for each of these areas, and that God would make our church effective for the Kingdom. Then he said to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. MATTHEW 9: GO Go to these areas, and get involved. Find a need that you re passionate about meeting, and meet it. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me! He said, Go and tell this people ISAIAH 6: GIVE Give your time and your resources to make a difference. Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. MATTHEW 6: Session TWO

We get healthy in. CONNECT GROUPS We believe life changes in the context of authentic relationships, which is why we are a church made up of connect groups. In the Bible, they worshiped in the temple, but personal ministry happened house to house. You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. ACTS 20:20 Connect Groups provide three things: 1. A place to CONNECT with others. Yes, whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with him so he will let me tell him about Christ and let Christ save him. 1 CORINTHIANS 9:22 TLB 2. A place to PROTECT each other. We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 JOHN 3:16 NLT 3. A place to GROW together. As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. PROVERBS 27:17 Session TWO 23

HOW CONNECT GROUPS WORK A Connect Group is an intentional gathering of people who meet regularly. Since God designed us for relationships, we reserve a portion of our time and energy to connect with others in Connect Groups. People form groups around what matters in their lives. They may share similar interests, or the same stage in life. They may gather around a shared goal or passion, as well as focusing on an area in which they want to grow. Connect Groups are also where we pray for each other and support each other. Connect Groups meet on a regular schedule. As often as possible, we meet in locations all around our city. This helps us to maintain an awareness of what s happening in our community, and keeps us from becoming isolated. With many groups to choose from, we believe there is a Connect Group out there for you. 24 Session TWO

4 things you should know about Connect Groups at thechapel: 1. There are three types of groups. Connect Groups are free-market groups. The group leaders are free to use their gifts and interests to determine when and where their group meets and what they meet about. From soccer groups and lunch groups to Bible studies and hangouts, our groups are as varied as we are. The Go Team is a committed family of people who use their God-given strengths and talents to serve others on a ministry team at thechapel. Connect with others who have similar passions and talents to make a difference right here at thechapel. There are teams who serve food, pray with people, teach kids, clean-up, welcome guests, hold babies, and so much more. If you re looking to be on the Go Team, you re on the right track. Outreach Projects meet the needs of people in the community. There are local projects that help with homelessness, crisis pregnancy, addiction and adoption. There are also global projects that offer the opportunity to be boots on the ground relief for struggling people all over the world. 2. Connect Groups meet in semesters. Life flows in seasons, and we want to make it easy for you to be in the right group for you in each season. This is why we have new Connect Groups that start and stop three times a year in what we refer to as semesters. Our Connect Group semesters are February-May, June-July and August-November. 3. You can join a group. We would love for you to get connected in a Connect Group. To find the right group for you, simply visit thechapel.cc/groups to search our directory of groups or visit a Connect table on at the weekend services. Once you find a few groups that interest you, contact the leaders to learn more and make plans to check it out in person. 4. You can lead a group. We believe everyone has areas of strength and gifting that can benefit others, and leading a Connect Group is a great way to serve others. The first step toward becoming a Connect Group leader is to attend the Connect Group Orientation at Session Four of the Growth Track. Session TWO 25

Get strong and discover your potential.. GROWTH TRACK thechapel Growth Track is designed to help you discover and develop your potential in Christ. Our process is made up of four sessions; guiding you through the steps of establishing a relationship with God, becoming connected with others, discovering your unique design, and empowering you to make a difference. Let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity. HEBREWS 6:1 I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. JOHN 10:10 26 Session TWO

Get going and make a difference. THE GO TEAM All of us were created by God to make a difference in the life of another person. God has reserved a piece of His Kingdom for you where your unique abilities and passions can impact the lives of others. We believe your life will never make sense until you find, develop and reach that potential. For we are God s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. EPHESIANS 2:10 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, my aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me. ACTS 20:24 Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities...there are different kinds of service to God [ministry]...all of you together are the one body of Christ, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-5, 27 NLT 28 Session TWO

THECHAPEL LEADERSHIP Believers who invest their heart, time, family and finances in the local church deserve to have confidence in church leadership. People are looking for leaders to conduct themselves with integrity and respect when making decisions that affect their lives. 30 Session TWO

Our church is governed by three levels of leadership 1. Guided by. PASTORS The Pastoral staff team is led by the Lead Pastor. This team oversees the day-to-day ministry and operations of the church. These staff pastors serve the congregation, and are responsible for the development of the spiritual life of the church. 2. Protected by. A BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Board of Directors are members of the congregation, appointed by the Lead Pastor to oversee the finances and the facilities needed by the church. They provide counsel to the Lead Pastor regarding the major financial commitments of the church. 3. Strengthened by. ELDERS The elders are seasoned, spiritually-mature members of the congregation. They are responsible to pray for thechapel family and leadership, and to provide insight and support when it comes issues of spiritual growth and vision. Session TWO 31

CHURCH FINANCES A tithe of everything...belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord. LEVITICUS 27:30 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. 1 CORINTHIANS 16:2 At thechapel, we practice tithing for the support of Christ s Body, the church, as God commands. We recognize that giving 10% of our income is the Biblical standard for giving. In fact, it s really more about returning than giving. 100% of what we have comes from the Lord, and it s our joy to return just a portion of what God has entrusted to us. The giving of tithes and offerings is an act of worship to God, and an expression of the relationship between the individual giver and the Lord. It s not an issue of income for the church, or a business transaction. It s an expression of gratitude toward God. 32 Session TWO

YOUR NEXT STEPS: 1. Count me in. (I m excited to make thechapel my home and do the following.) I will: Cultivate a relationship with God. Connect in a Group. Complete the Growth Track. 40 THE PURPOSES OF YOUR HEART ARE LIKE DEEP WATERS, BUT ONE WHO HAS INSIGHT DRAWS THEM OUT. PROVERBS 20:5

CORE MOTIVATIONS 1. WHAT ARE CORE MOTIVATIONS? They are your unique ways of interacting with the world around you. You were born with a set of Motivations--the things that matter the most to you when you interact with your world. We believe God put them in your Core--your human soul when you were born. While no one knows you better than your Creator, the Core Motivations Questionnaire you are going to take in today s session will affirm them for you in a very personal way. 2. YOUR CORE MOTIVATIONAL ROOTS For centuries, man has been scratching his head to understand who he is, why he was created and his unique difference. C.S. Lewis calls this the Numinous awe. All of these questions can be answered in a few ancient, but amazingly relevant scriptures. Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born I made plans for you. JEREMIAH 1:5 3. YOUR CORE MOTIVATIONAL... SKILLS - To all who are wise-hearted I have given the skill and ability to make everything that I have commanded you. EXODUS 31:6 AMP SERVICE TO OTHERS - As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 PETER 4:10 NASB Session THREE 39

GOD GIVEN PLAN God made us to do good works, which he planned in advance for us to live our lives doing. EPHESIANS 2:10 Unique Abilities We all have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is speaking truth speak with the faith you have; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to administrate, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. ROMANS 12:6-8 Server Nurturer Gatherer Teacher Visioner Advocator Giver If you are thinking and acting like everyone else, then you aren t thinking and acting like God made you. Being yourself is more than enough. - Alex E. Anderson 40 Session THREE

CORE MOTIVATED TO SERVE GOD We do not recruit people just to. FILL NEEDS Instead, we help people do what God has PLACED on their hearts. Don t just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ s servants doing what God wants you to do. EPHESIANS 6:6 There is a difference between people who are intrinsically MOTIVATED to do something and those who are. DRIVEN DRIVEN PEOPLE Try to develop needed strengths Serve regardless of interests May get tired of these tasks Get drained by the work Hope to make a difference CORE MOTIVATED PEOPLE Use their natural abilities Pursue their heart interests Don t easily get tired Get energized by their work Are confident God is using them It is amazing what can be accomplished when nobody cares about who gets the credit. - Robert Yates Session THREE 41

CREATED IN GOD S LIKENESS 1. You were created in God s. LIKENESS Let us make man in our image, in our likeness. GENESIS 1:26 (NIV) 2. Like God, you have a, BODY SOUL and. MIND May your whole spirit, soul and body be pure at the coming of Jesus Christ. 1 THESSALONIANS 5:23 (NIV) Your body is what you live in, it s your earth suit and as long as it s working you get to stay on the planet. Your spirit is that part of you that is most like God. It s where His Spirit bugs and encourages you about the important stuff in your life. Your soul has three parts; your mind, your will and your emotions. Your soul is where your Core Motivations, the things that matter the most to you when you interact with your world, exist. 42 Session THREE

YOUR CORE MOTIVATION SOUL MAP Which area of the soul is: (Draw lines to match up.) People oriented Planning oriented Action oriented Mind (teacher, visioner, gatherer, giver) Will (advocator, visioner, server, giver) Emotions (nurterer, gatherer, server, giver) Let s take the test and figure out how God uniquely designed us. Session THREE 43

Your core motivations allow you to stand where very few stand and see opportunities that very few see. - Alex E. Anderson CORE MOTIVATION QUESTIONNAIRE CLOSE SCORES The results of your questionnaire may have close scores, that s because your core motivations can operate interchangeably and take the lead when necessary in a particular role or season in your life. CORE MOTIVATIONS IN GROUPS In most groups you ll find these percentages present: Server 16%, Nurturer 31%, Gatherer 15%, Teacher 6%, Visioner 13%, Advocator 12%, and Giver 7%. 44 Session THREE
