There is no Religious Studies Coursework or Controlled Assessment since The grade will be determined by the examination. At the close of Year 11, students will sit two examinations. Students will study one unit in Year 9, a further unit in Year 10 and have the option in Year 11 of studying a further unit (from which they choose two) or revision. This choice will be made in discussion with the teacher and made in the best interests of the student s grade. In Year 9, the course explores contemporary and current issues such as crime, war, poverty, sexual ethics, marriage, divorce, homosexuality, the environment, drugs, abortion, euthanasia and reproductive technologies. As my former Religious Studies teacher used to say, Religious Studies is one subject where what is in the newspapers on the morning of the exam could be used in the exam itself. Students will be expected to build a knowledge and understanding of the nature of these moral

2 issues and give their views, having considered both sides of the argument, on the issues concerned. In Year 9, the course explores the contrasting views of Christians and examines set texts from the Bible. A key skill is the understanding that not all Christians, nor all people, will agree on these complex issues. The examination paper in GCSE Christian Ethics lasts 90 minutes. It features short answer questions which ask to define a moral issue or give an opinion. Crucially, there are six mark questions, which act as preparation for Advanced Level, where students have to give two points of view before reaching a conclusion. Resources are on the School Share Point Virtual Learning Environment System and resources are regularly ed. Students can purchase this text Christianity/dp/ /ref=sr_1_1/ ?ie=UTF8&qid= &sr=8-1&keywords=aqa+christian+ethics+gcse if they wish though the Staff provide appropriate notes for all students. Please see below for Homework. Students choose one question per week. Staff initials are in the third column. All past paper questions are included here. Thank you.
