Welcome in the name of Jesus Christ! We thank God that you have joined us for worship. If you are visiting with us, we thank God you are here and pray our worship together will be a mutual blessing. If you are looking for a church home, we hope Abiding Savior can meet your needs. Please introduce yourself to one of the Pastors. We ask both members and visitors to kindly fill out attendance cards and pass them to the center aisle. The ushers will gather them during the song following the Children s Message. Feel free to add a prayer request for the Pastor to include in the congregational prayer. We love children here at Abiding Savior. Parents are encouraged to sit in the front pews so that young children can see what is happening during worship. If you should want to make use of our cry room or nursery, please ask one of our ushers for directions. Ministers Rev. Dr. Thomas Rogers... Senior Pastor Rev. Glenn Lucas... Associate Pastor Rev. 3 Worshippers are invited to kneel for the Confession and Absolution. Those who desire not to kneel may sit or stand. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Pastor: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, Who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. ABIDING SAVIOR PRESCHOOL STUDENTS SING 5:00 p.m. CHILDREN HILDREN S MESSAGE 5:00 p.m. Jesus Loves Me We Love SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM 5:00 p.m. ORDER OF BAPTISM Invocation Pastor: We celebrate today the blessings God has given us. We remember the grace given through Baptism, and we gather at the Baptismal font for new life and new hope. Amen. Pastor: Brothers and sisters in Christ, we come before the Lord today to welcome a new member into the Kingdom of God. Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. Amen. Come, creating Father. 3

Pastor: Jesus said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Pastor: Jesus also said, I tell you the truth, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. Amen. Come, Holy Spirit. it. Pastor: Christina Kayla Chong, receive the sign of the holy cross both upon your forehead and upon your heart, to mark you as one redeemed by Christ the crucified. Connor James Chong, receive the sign of the holy cross both upon your forehead and upon your heart, to mark you as one redeemed by Christ the crucified. Let us pray. Lord God, Heavenly Father, we present these children of Your own creation, given to us as a blessing to Your church. We know each one of us is born sinful into a sinful world, darkened from Your light. Give to Christina and Connor and to all of us the light of Your presence, now and forever. Amen. Confession of Faith Pastor: It is your task as parents and sponsors to confess before God your intention to see that Christina and Connor are brought up in the Christian faith. As a part of your responsibilities you are to remember Christina and Connor in your prayers, to teach them the 10 Commandments, the Creed, and the Lord s Prayer. As they grow in years you are to put in their hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for their further instruction in the Christian faith that in fellowship with the church they may lead a godly life until the day of Jesus Christ. Do you promise to fulfill these obligations? Parents & Sponsors: I do. Pastor: It is good and right that we should all confess with the church what God works in and through Baptism. So I ask do you renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways? I do renounce them. Pastor: Let us confess the new life of hope Christina and Connor will receive. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. 4

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Baptism Pastor: It is written in Titus, chapter 3, But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Pastor: Into this Christian faith we now baptize Christina Kayla Chong. Christina Kayla Chong, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and in the name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Spirit. Amen! Pastor: Into this Christian faith we now baptize Connor James Chong. Connor James Chong, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and in the name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Spirit. Amen! Blessing Pastor: We offer two symbols of the new life found in Christ, that you, Christina, and you, Connor, children of God, may remember the grace found today in baptism. Receive this white garment, to show that Christ has taken all of your sin and clothed you in perfect righteousness. Receive also this burning light, to remind you to live always by Christ s light in a world darkened by sin. Let this light be a comfort and guide all your days. May the Lord, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you with His grace to life everlasting. May He keep you in your baptismal grace, that you may lead a life that will glorify Him. Peace be with you. Amen. Pastor: Let us pray. Father of all creation, bless these parents and all our parents. Give to them a heart of rejoicing in the gift You have given them. Grant that they may be enabled to carry out Your work, strengthened in their own faith, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. 5

Pastor: Through Baptism God has added Christina and Connor to His own people to declare the wonderful deeds of our Savior, who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. Let us speak these words of blessing and welcome: We welcome you into the Lord s family. We receive you as fellow members of the body of Christ, children of the same heavenly Father, to work with us in His kingdom. Pastor: And you, Christina, and you, Connor, the Lord bless you in all your ways from this time forth and even forever more. Amen! CONGREGATIONAL SONG 5;00 p.m. Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing Come, thou Fount of ev ry blessing, Tune my heart to sing thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. While the hope of endless glory Fills my heart with joy and love, Teach me ever to adore thee; May I still thy goodness prove. OLD TESTAMENT READING ISAIAH 12:1-6 You will say in that day: I will give thanks to you, O LORD, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me. Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day: Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel. Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. CONGREGATIONAL SONG 5:00 p.m. Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing Here I raise my Ebenezer, Hither by thy help I m come; And I hope, by thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wand ring from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed his precious blood. Oh, to grace how great a debtor Daily I m constrained to be; Let that grace now like a fetter Bind my wand ring heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it; Prone to leave the God I love. Here s my heart, oh, take and seal it; Seal it for thy courts above. 6

Here s my heart, oh, take and seal it; Seal it for thy courts above. EPISTLE READING 2 CORINTH ORINTHIANS IANS 5:16-21 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Please stand for the Reading of the Holy Gospel. THE HOLY GOSPEL Luke 15:1-3, Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear [Jesus]. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, This man receives sinners and eats with them. So he told them this parable: And he said, There was a man who had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me. And he divided his property between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything. 7

But when he came to himself, he said, How many of my father s hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants. And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his servants, Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to celebrate. Now his older son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. And he said to him, Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and sound. But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, but he answered his father, Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him! And he said to him, Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found. Reader: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You O Christ. Worshippers are invited to stand and share the peace of the Lord with each other. Children can come down to the chancel steps for the children s message. CHILDREN HILDREN S MESSAGE 9:30 a.m. Prayer and member/guest cards will be collected during the singing of the following song: CONGREGATIONAL SONG Love Like Rain Light and breath come from your hand, In Your presence, who can stand? Even angels veil their sight, High and lifted, glorified. Love outstanding overflows, In our hearts it ever grows, Sent to live and breathe through us, Flow like waters, comes Your love. Refrain: Love like rain fall down, Love like arms surround. Hold the universe in place, Hold my heart in Your embrace. 8

Loving Father, pure and right, Waits, arms open, for the sight, Of the wayward son come home; Celebration waits alone. At first glimpse the Father runs, Dripping tears fall on the son; From his knees the Father lifts, To embrace and kiss his face. Refrain: Love like rain fall down, Love like arms surround. Hold the universe in place, Hold my heart in Your embrace. Blood and sweat have made the way For the sinner gone astray. Come to rest in His embrace, Love has paved the way for grace. Enter in, O wayward child, Born in sin, now reconciled. Live to please the Lord of love, Live and breathe for home above. Refrain Father, God come down. Father, God, surround. Take this wandering heart of mine. Seal it for Your courts divine. Words & Music by Daniel Doss Copyright 2005 worshiptogether.com songs (Admin.
