We believe in the following statements: The verbal, plenary inspiration of the Bible; Fundamental Baptist Church 1170 Sand Cove Road, Saint John, NB E2M 0G3 Statement of Belief The three persons of the God-Head God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; Salvation by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross on our behalf in which salvation we are eternally kept; The personal, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave and His bodily ascension into Heaven The pre-tribulation, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ in the air for His saints The pre-millennial return of Jesus Christ to the earth with His saints to establish His kingdom The necessity of maintaining personal separation from the world, and ecclesiastical separation from compromise, charismatic influence, and ecumenism The local church as God s instrument for service The pillar and ground of the truth. But speaking the Truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the Head, even Christ. The Scriptures We believe: in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Bible that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God, by which we understand the whole Bible that the words of the sacred writings were communicated by the Spirit of God to holy men of old that this divine inspiration extends equally and fully to all parts of these writings historical, poetical, doctrinal, and prophetical as appearing in the original manuscripts and that these scriptures are the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds and opinions should be tried (Isaiah 8:20; Luke 24:44; I Corinthians 2:13, 10:11; II Corinthians 13:5; I Thessalonians 5:21; II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:21; I John 4:1) God We believe: that there is one, and only one, living and true God

that He is an infinite, intelligent Spirit, whose name is JEHOVAH, the Maker and Supreme Rule of Heaven and Earth, inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love and that in the unit of the God-Head there are three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; co-equal and co-eternal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of Redemption (Exodus 15:11; Psalm 145:5; 83:18; Matthew 28:19; Mark 12:30; John 4:24, 10:30, 15:26; II Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 2:18; Revelation 4:11) Jesus Christ We believe: that, as provided and purposed by God, and as pre-announced in the prophecies of the Scriptures, the Eternal Son of God came into the world that He might manifest God to man, fulfill prophecy, and become the Redeemer of a lost world that to this end He was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23), and received a human body, and a sinless nature (John 1:18, 3:16: Luke 1:1,2; Philippians 2:5-8) that He first came to Israel as her Messiah-King, was rejected of that Nation and, according to the eternal councils of God, gave His life a ransom for all (John 11:13; Acts 2:22-24; I Timothy 2:6) that He arose bodily from the dead on the third day, in the same body in which He suffered and died that our Lord ascended in Heaven; that He is now seated at the right hand of the Father, and is our only mediator, High Priest, and Divine Advocate with the Father (Mark 16:9, 10; Luke 24:39; John 20:27; I Corinthians 15:4; Hebrews 7:25, 8:1; I John 2:1,2) that the return of Christ is imminent, personal, physical, and pre-millennial occurring in two phases: 1.) to complete the church age by taking up (rapture) of all believers prior to the Great Tribulation, 2.) and at the end of the Great Tribulation when He shall return with His saints, at which time the nations shall be judged and he Millennial Kingdom, with re-gathered Israel central, and with Christ as King, will be ushered in that at the end of one thousand years the Judgment of the Great White Throne will take place, followed by the eternal peace of the righteous, and the eternal damnation of the wicked, Satan and his Cohorts (Matthew 24:25; Romans 9-11; I Corinthians 15:51-58; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; II Thessalonians 2:1-12; Revelation 20:1-15) The Holy Spirit We believe: that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father, and God the Son, and of the same nature;

that He was active in the Creation; that in His relation to the unbelieving world He restrains the Evil One until God s purpose is fulfilled that He is the agent in the New Birth that He seals, endues, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies, and helps the believer (John 3:5-7; 14:16,17,26; 15:20; John 16:7-15; Ephesians 4:30; I Peter 1:23) The Fall of Man We believe: that man was created in innocence under the law of his Maker, but by voluntary transgression fell from his sinless and happy state that In consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not only by constraint, but by choice, and therefore under just condemnation without defense or excuse (Genesis 1:27,31; 3:6-24; Isaiah 53:6; Ezekiel 18:19,20; Romans 1:18, 20; 3:19-23; Galatians 3:22; 5:12,19; Ephesians 2:1-3) Creation We accept the Genesis account of creation and believe that man came by direct creation of God and not by evolution. Satan We believe: that Satan is a personal being, a fallen angel, prince of demons, the god of this age, the great enticer and deceiver, the dragon, that old serpent, called the devil and Satan that he is a murderer and a liar, the adversary of Christ and His people, the accuser of the brethren, whose end is the lake of fire. (Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:12-19; Matthew 25:41; John 8:44; II Corinthians 4:3,4; I Peter 5:8; Revelation 12:9,10; 20:10) Salvation We believe: that the standing before God of one born again is such, that, upon acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, he, or she, immediately receives eternal life; that he, or she, is a new creation in Christ Jesus that salvation is entirely by Grace, through faith in Jesus Christ and is eternal; that in this life it includes the election and calling of God; union with the Lord Jesus Christ; regeneration (being made right with God), and sanctification (set apart unto God); repentance and conversion on the part of the individual; and in the life to come, glorification. We further believe: that salvation is manifested in a two-fold way a Godly sorrow for sin and a turning from sin to live a Godly life

that those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour will rejoice forever in God s presence and that those who refuse to accept Him will forever be separated from God in eternal torment forever (John 3:3,7,15-18,36; 5:24; 14:6; 20:30,31; Acts 4:14; 13:38,39; 16:31; Romans 6:23; 10:9-11,13; I John 5:12; Revelation 3:20; 20:10,15) The Local Church We believe: that a local church is a congregation of immersed believers in Jesus Christ, associated by covenant of faith and fellowship of the Gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by His law; and exercising the gifts, rights and privileges invested in them by His word that its officers are pastors and deacons, whose qualifications, claims and duties are clearly defined in the scriptures that the true mission of the Church is a faithful witnessing of Christ to all men as we have opportunity We further believe: that the local Church has the absolute right of self-government free from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations, and that the one and only superintendent is Christ through the Holy Spirit that it is scriptural for true churches to co-operate with each other in contending for the Faith, and for the furtherance of the Gospel that each local Church is the sole judge of the measure and method of its cooperation and that on all matters of membership, of polity, of benevolence, of government, and of discipline, the will of the local Church is final (Matthew 28:20; Mark 16:15; Acts 2:41,42;I Corinthians 1:1-13; 14:12; II Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 4:4, 11-16; Philippians 1:1,27; Titus 1:5) Civil Government We believe: that civil government is a divine appointment for the interests and good order of human society that magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored, and obeyed except in things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ (as revealed in scriptures) who is the only Lord of our conscience, and the coming Prince of the kings of the earth (Exodus 18:21,22; II Samuel 13:3; Daniel 3:17-18; Matthew 22:21; Acts 5:20; 4:19,20; 23:5; Romans 13:1-7) The Ordinances Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them unto you (I Corinthians 11:2).

We believe: that there are two New Testament ordinances that Christians are commanded to observe: 1.) Water Baptism: While recognizing that water baptism has no saving merit, it is our conviction that after one is saved, baptism is the next step in order to portray to the world the believer s union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. It is our conviction that immersion is the scriptural mode of water baptism. We believe that the New Testament order is, first, to believe, second to be baptized, and third, to be added to the local church (Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 2:41,42; 8:36-39; 9:17,18; 16:14,15; Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:9-13). 2.) The Lord s Supper: In this, the members of the local church with the visiting members from churches of like faith and order by the use of unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine, commemorate together the death of Christ til He come. It should be preceded always by solemn self-examination (Matthew 26:26-29; Acts 2:41,42; 20:7; I Corinthians 11:23-34; I John 1:9). The Security of the Saints We believe that all who are truly born again are kept by God the Father for Christ Jesus that the grand mark distinguishing true believers from superficial professors is their persevering attachment to Christ (John 10:27,28; Philippians 1:6; I John 2:19) Separation We believe: that the Scriptures clearly teach non-conformity to the world for every believer that it is clearly commanded of God to all believers to live lives of separation from worldly, sinful and doubtful practices and associations (including lodges, secret orders, and churches in fellowship with apostasy), unto Christ, and to be holy as He is holy that positional sanctification occurs at the moment of regeneration and that practical sanctification is to be progressive through the entire life span of the believer here on earth that God s provision for holy living is in the believer s identification with Christ in His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension; the indwelling power and person of the Holy Spirit and the believer s yieldedness to Him; and by the powerful Word of God (Matthew 28:20; Acts 2:41,42; I Corinthians 1:1-13; 11:2; 14:12; II Corinthians 8:5; Ephesians 4:7; 11-16; Philippians 1:1,27; Titus 1:5) Stewardship Moreover it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful (I Corinthians 4:2). We believe: that the stewardship of the believer consists of time, talent and tithe in personal, voluntary, regular, systematic, and proportionate giving to the support of the local church and the spread of the Gospel to the regions beyond

that this is best accomplished by the tithing of our income and the presenting of an offering (Genesis 14:20; Numbers 18:25-29; Proverbs 3:9; Malachi 3:8,10; Matthew 6:3; 23:23; I Corinthians 16:2; II Corinthians)
