2 How many times have you been to WCCC? This will be my first time I ve been to Winter Conference 2-3 times I ve attended Winter Conference more than 10 times

3 Why are you here? I volunteered to be a BSL/CSL for Winter Conference I was asked by my friend/fellowship leader/pastor to come I wasn t doing anything today

6 What s Happening? During the evening message Rev. Mitchell Herring will give an altar call on the last night (12/31) Invite conferees to stand up or come forward

7 What s Happening? Divide into groups New believers Full-time Christian service Language: Cantonese, English, Mandarin

8 What s Happening? Counseling 1:1 (if possible) Same gender: male-male, female-female

9 What s Happening? Ask about his/her decision Pray Return to meeting room for testimony time Guide counseling time with the commitment form

12 Who, me? Counselors All Bible study leaders (BSL) Cabin sharing leaders (CSL), optional Workshop leaders, speakers, pastors, etc. First Priority: Be a counselee, not a counselor Being a Good Counselor

13 Objectives Be an active listener (NOT teacher or preacher) Ask open-ended questions (why, what, how) Listen to conferee and Holy Spirit Identify goals: What do you want to change? How? Give assurance and encouragement (Scripture is best!) Share personal experience, only if appropriate Being a Good Counselor

14 Be Spiritually Ready Have a consistent relationship with God: confess your own sins (I John 1:9) Recognize the Holy Spirit is in control the situation (John 16:8; II Cor. 5:18-20) Be humble and patient: do not rush Be sincere: interested, open, available and sensitive to the sharing of the counselee Being a Good Counselor

15 Be Encouraging Exhibit Positive Body Language Smile Have warm and steady eye contact Use his/her first name Use acknowledging phrases and non-verbal expressions Summarize or paraphrase Being a Good Counselor

20 1 Salvation Emphasize the new life and eternal place in His Kingdom Go through the Four Basic Spiritual Laws Ask him/her to accept Jesus Christ as personal Savior through prayer Encourage him/her to grow in a local church; ask the Counseling Coordinator for help if needed

21 2 Dedication/Re-Dedication Know that God made you and keeps you Admit to yourself and to God that you are a sinner Confess your sins Believe that Christ died on the Cross for your sins so that you can be justified. Jesus also rose on the third day and conquered death and sin. He will return again

22 3 Personal Spiritual Growth Go to God faithfully in prayer daily Read Bible daily and develop relationship with Jesus Obey God by following Christ and His teachings Witness for Christ by your life and words Trust God for every detail of your life Allow the Spirit to control and empower you

23 4 Christian Service Encourage active involvement in serving the Lord Explore his/her Spiritual gifts Discuss service opportunities (school, fellowship, church, community, and outreach ministry)

24 5 Full-Time Ministry Confirm salvation and sanctification ( talk about your walk with God ) Discuss opportunities for church & missions Discuss the next steps with the counselee ( What would you like to do after the conference? Next year, how will you know you re on track with God? ) Resources available through WCCCC AA

25 Completing Form Guide the counseling time with the commitment form Pray Next Steps White copy: turn in to WCCCC Yellow copy: counselee keeps it Return to meeting room for testimony time

27 Roles & Responsibilities Your Role Listen to Holy Spirit Listen to counselee Your Responsibility Confidentiality. Never share personal info with cabin mates, friends, etc. Pray for counselee

28 Summary In the Counseling Room Identify yourself as a counselor Have 1-2 commitment forms Bring Bible and a pen

29 Summary With counselee Ask what decision counselee has made Complete commitment form Ask counselee to pray first, then close in prayer Exchange your contact information (stickers) Encourage counselee to share during testimony time Turn in white form. Counselee keeps yellow copy Total time: 30 minutes (maximum)
