1 lorem ipsum DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Arise - Go - Serve 2016 Missions Spring Trip A Spring venture to the DR is still in the works. If you are interested in going to the DR in March or April this year, please inquiry! The DR The Dominican Republic is a nation on the island of Hispaniola, sharing this island with the country of Haiti, in the Caribbean region. Both by area and population, the DR is the second largest Caribbean nation (after Cuba), with an estimated 10 million people. The country's economic progress is exemplified by its advanced telecommunication system. However the country suffers from unemployment, government corruption, and inconsistent electric services leaving growth stagnant in some areas. Lack of educational and employment opportunities among the youth put this group at risk for crime, Summer Trip Our 4th venture to the DR is scheduled August 11th-August 21st. An open door for multiple festivals in Puerto Plata has been granted to us! As well as, discipleship opportunities with our School of Ministry in Gaspar Hernandez. Join us this summer as we step foot on the island once more! lack of family values, and substance addiction. The DR population is 73% multiracial, 16% white, and 11% black. The multiracial population is primarily a mixture of European and Africans. The DR is 68.9% Roman Catholic, 18.2% Evangelical, 10.6% no religion, and 2.3% other. The population of the DR is entirely Spanish-speaking. The DR has become a trans-shipment point for Colombian drugs destined for Europe as well as the US and Canada. Money laundering via the DR is favored by Colombian drug cartels for the ease of illicit financial transactions.
2 What is a Mission's Trip? mission [mish-uh n] 1. the business with which such a group is charged 2. any important task or duty that is assigned, allotted, or self-imposed 3. an important goal or purpose that is accompanied by strong conviction; a calling or vocation 4. a sending or being sent for some duty or purpose. trip [trip] Noun: a journey or voyage Verb: to step lightly or nimbly, skip, dance, tread Why Go? A Mission's Trip is designed to pursue a specific destination, a specific people, for a specific purpose. As we see above, the purpose is driven and set at times by our own volition but we believe that NEO'S purpose and sending is set by God and that He desires us to pursue in love those that are without His son, Jesus Christ and to equip the body of Christ for sustainable ministry in the DR. We do this carefully and with respect, but with boldness and courage. We hope these trips will change the hearts we come across, as well as our own. Let's partner together to step foot on new soil and go forward with the Gospel of Jesus Christ with what may be a short-term mission, but with long-term impact! 2
3 Hospitable Culture Even with the struggles that the DR faces, there remains a people with open arms and smiling faces. It is a culture rich in music, cuisine, and baseball. Some great things the DR is known for include: creation of the musical style called Merengue along with Bachata, a form of music and dance, they have the second-highest number of MLB players including, Manny Ramírez, and Sammy Sosa, world famous fashion designer Oscar de la Renta was born in the DR as well. The Mission As we continue to launch into the Dominican Republic we do so compelled by the words of Paul the Apostle to Titus; Set things in Order that are Lacking, Appoint Elders in every city and by Sound Doctrine exhort, convict and teach. With the lack of education, vision and resources within the country, this lends to an unhealthy Gospel witness and impact from village to village, city to city within the church. Yet, there stands a hungry and youthful generation looking for discipleship, ministry and mission opportunities. It's our mission to penetrate these deficiencies and provide the teaching, training and ministry opportunities for this Next Generation. We believe the strategy and ministry plans that we have in place, as well as, the partnership with people such as yourself will provide a long term sustainable impact throughout the entire country for generations to come. P.O. Box San Diego, CA info@neweraoutreach.com neweraoutreach.com facebook.com/neweraoutreach I'm on board! What do I pack? What will I do? Bible, journal/notebook, pen Spanish Bibles, Books of John Deet Bug Spray Toiletries - basic bath/shower needs (unscented products preferred) Towel Pair of tennis/walking shoes you are willing to get dirty Flip Flops Basic shirts and shorts, again you are willing to get dirty (Athletic material preferred to help battle the heat) Church Attire: Pair of pants and nice collared shirt (men) and long skirt/cap sleeved shirt (women) Beat the Heat! sunglasses, ball cap, sun block, chapstick, large refillable water bottle, modest bathing suit Small $ bills to exchange Your openness and availability to serve are the best things you can bring with you. Working alongside DR leadership to host community festivals, outreach to families and connect the people with local church bodies Building projects Adopt villages, committing our effort & focus to specific areas of the DR Help instruct and support the School of Ministry in Gasper Hernandez Connect with local public schools to minister to their children Minister to the youth by hosting village kid's outreaches Connect people to Christ through the baseball culture by forming a US team, provide equipment and host a youth training camp 3
