ASK IF SOMETHING ELSE OR DK (Q.K1=11, 99): SPCHR And is that a Christian religion, or not? 1 Yes 2 No 9 Don t know/refused (VOL.) 1 In mid-june, upon completion of 6,000 interviews, interviewing was halted for a brief period and the data were weighted to allow for a preliminary review of the data. In an experiment, half of respondents up to that point were asked about their spouse s/partner s religion, if any and the other half of respondents were asked about their spouse s/partner s present religion, if any. The former question matches the 2007 Landscape Study. Analysis of this experiment found that the former question produced higher estimates of religious intermarriage than the latter question. This is presumably because of the context in which it was asked. When Q.K1 follows the Q.J series of questions (about the religion in which the respondent was raised), some respondents appear to answer by describing their spouse s/partner s childhood religion when they are not prompted to report specifically on their spouse s/partner s present religion. Beginning June 20 (when data collection resumed following this brief hiatus) and for the remainder of the field period, all respondents were asked the latter question. In total, 92% of all respondents received the present religion, if any version of the question, which minimizes the bias introduced in estimates of intermarriage resulting from having asked some respondents a different version of the question.
