1 A Word from our Community Lay Director: Lagniappe Country Walk to Emmaus Spring 2018 Newsletter I am so excited to participate once again in the Men's and Women's Walks #82 and #83! Whenever a walk is held, great things happen! Remember your own walk and how your eyes were opened to a whole new vision of what life in Christ could bring: renewed marriages and families, renewed churches, even a kinder workplace was made possible by spending 72 hours with the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit on the road to Emmaus. Renewal will be our theme for 2018 in LCWE. Not holding the fall set of walks opens new opportunities to make contact with other churches who may not already be involved with Emmaus. Our Emmaus national board says that in some communities, it gets to where almost everyone in the churches involved has been invited to attend or has actually attended an Emmaus weekend. Now it is time for us to reach out to new churches and new communities. We need fresh momentum to enliven our LCWE community. Please pray for insight into ways to reach out and renew. You can be confident that your board will explore every avenue of growth but without your support and your prayers our efforts will not produce fruit. God's Holy Spirit is not tired or weary. He just needs us to call upon Him so that His fruit may flourish in LCWE. Please contact a board member with your good ideas, your contacts and suggestions to get the Good News out to others who want to love Jesus more dearly. Please serve lovingly on one or both weekends realizing that they are the only ones this year. Please stay active sharing His love at monthly gatherings and weekly reunion groups. In fact, March 22 will be a time to start new reunion groups! Staying connected with Christian friends as presented in the Perseverance talk on Sunday of the walk is essential if we want our fire to burn brightly. Christ is counting on you to renew and restore our community. We want to hold both sets of walks in 2019! In Christ all things are possible! 2 OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE One of the foundations of the Walk to Emmaus experience is servanthood. It is through servanthood that we experience anew, the joy and excitement of the weekend. You don t have to be on conference room team to be a major part of the weekend experience. The support role is the engine that drives the weekend. By contributing your time and talents, the weekend flows smoothly and everyone can experience the presence of God. Not just the pilgrims...everyone! How can I serve?... PRAYER - Pray for the pilgrims. Pray for the team. Visit to sign up for the prayer vigil. Come to the Prayer Room at least 30 minutes before each talk and pray for the speaker (times of the talks are listed on page 5). Pray at home, pray at work,...pray without ceasing! The Prayer Room is also a great place to write you re agape letters. Contact Sandra McLauren for more information. KITCHEN - Why is working in the kitchen during the weekend so much fun? Is it the fellowship, the sense of creating, or just the experience of serving? Whatever it is, it is essential. Your contribution is both needed and appreciated. Contact Marverne Terrell for more information. ALTARS - The altar arrangements throughout the weekend are an inspirational part of each visit to the sanctuary. Help out for one arrangement, a day or the whole weekend! Contact Theresa Sandifer to find out how you can help. FACILITIES - The weekend involves a lot of setting up, taking down, moving, picking up and putting away. Your help is needed! Wednesday evening at 4:00 and again on Thursday Morning starting at 8:30 AM, set up Conference Room, sleeping areas, Prayer and Dining Rooms. Saturday evening - after Candlelight - move Conference Room. Sunday Morning - arrive by 6:15 AM to convert sleeping areas back to Sunday School rooms. Sunday evening - after Closing to restore the Broadmoor Campus to pre-walk condition. Contact John Deaton for more information. AGAPE - Oven agape is a sweet, warm way to spread God's love. Bring homemade oven agape to the kitchen on Thursday of the Walks. - OR - The upcoming walks will need 60 agape items for each weekend. Some articles are tried and true, but new ones are always welcome. God's favorite hobby is creating, so get Him in on the planning! Contact Cyndi Wolfe for more information. TEAM ASSISTANT - Learn how the conference room gets set up, rearranged during breaks, cleaned up and taken down during the weekend. Team Assistant is a vital part of the Walk and is loads of fun too. Won t you help? Contact Lorrie Rogerson for more information. CANDLELIGHT and CLOSING - What experiences they are! An opportunity to worship and to demonstrate community spirit to the pilgrims. REMEMBER, CANDLELIGHT IS AT 8:00 PM ON SATURDAY AND CLOSING IS AT 4:00 PM ON SUNDAY!...Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to the least of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me. Matthew 25:40 Do we have your address? If you have an address, but haven t been receiving communication from us, go to the LCWE web site, click on the Contact Us link, and fill out the form with your information. Or us at LCWEnews@gmail.com with your name, walk number, preferred address. The web site also has pilgrim applications, team service applications (don t forget to fill out annually), links to prayer vigil signup, the community calendar, detailed gathering information, and information on sponsorship and reunion groups. CAMPUS TOURS We will once again be hosting tours of the Broadmoor/Emmaus campus during the walk to familiarize community members with the various service areas and opportunities. The tour will begin after Sponsor s Hour on Thursday night (meet at sanctuary) of each walk. Especially if you ve never experienced the Behind the Scenes activity, you won t want to miss this exciting opportunity. Wear your walking shoes and come find out where all the servants hang out! After the 30 minute tour, you ll be well-equipped to just show up and get to work on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday of any walk.

3 From the Lay Director Lagniappe Country Walk to Emmaus #82 Dear Lagniappe Country Emmaus Community, Through the fifteen years since I attended my Emmaus walk, I have been asked to serve on the conference room team several times. I always responded that I would surely pray about it, and I did, usually for many days, wanting to be sure I made the right decision. When I was asked to pray about serving as the Women s Lay Director, I answered again that I surely would. And I began to pray right away. The next morning during my prayer time, the scripture in my devotional for that day was Luke 24: the story of Jesus on His way to Emmaus. I had my answer. Through these past several months of preparation, I have grown so much spiritually, and God has stretched me by having me step out of my comfort zone, where I have to rely fully on Him. The team the Lord has assembled is made up of precious spirit filled women who love the Lord and accepted His invitation to serve. They are so ready to share His love and grace with the women whom He is calling to attend walk #82, and I am so honored to serve with them. The scripture God led me to for this walk is: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth. ACTS 1:8 In this verse Jesus tells us that once we receive His Spirit, he intends for us to share our knowledge of Him to those people He brings into our lives. Emmaus is a tool He has given us to carry out this mission. I am so very humbled and thankful to God for allowing me the privilege of serving this Community, the conference room team, and the Pilgrims of Walk # 82. DeColores, Paula Cappo A WORD FROM OUR LAY DIRECTORS From the Lay Director Lagniappe Country Walk to Emmaus #83 Dear Lagniappe Country Emmaus Community "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." (Galatians 6: 9-10). "... for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." I think this is a great verse for not only Walk #83, but for our Emmaus Community also. There is much time and preparation needed before, during, and after Walks #82 and #83, and if we're honest with ourselves, there are times when we become weary. But if we all remember the Pilgrims during this time our harvest will be bountiful... a harvest of new Pilgrims filled with God's love and the Holy Sprit! As I've told my Reunion Group several times over the past few weeks my excitement has grown and grown in anticipation of our Team Meetings. (As Lay Director I'm allowed to anticipate, right?) Well we have had our first Team Meeting and as always God is good! He has gathered a great group of men and provided us with five wonderful talks thus far that will be better still during the Walk. The anticipation grows as we continue with our training and we feel the Spirit fill our hearts. And as we feel the prayers lifting us up during our preparation. Thank you all for your prayers and support as we share this journey together... as we reap the harvest of Christian brothers and sisters who have seen and felt the love of Christ and are energized to spread that love to all. The Focus of Emmaus is God as Known in Jesus Christ and how that finds expression in the local church. The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, and places of work. Emmaus lifts up the way for our grace-filled life to be lived and shared with others.
