1 We Care Because We Pray 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time July 10, 2016 Forbes Park, Makati The SSAP Social Services Ministry by Marrot Moreno, Social Services Ministry Head Social Outreach Programs have been in existence in San Antonio for the last 40 years. Today, we call it the Social Services Ministry. Its main function is to implement service and development programs which promote the general well-being and quality of life of the less fortunate. Through its direct assistance in the form of medical, educational, relief and rehabilitation, the Social Service Ministry also provides spiritual and moral values formation to the prisoners of the Taguig and Makati City Jail aside from being involved in the ecological program of the Parish. Below is a brief description of each office under the Social Services Ministry. SCHOLARSHIP (headed by Menchu Bautista & Mariza del Rosario) The Scholarship Ministry assists young men and women with the educational opportunity and assistance to enroll in and finish their courses which will enable them to work with dignity and improve their families livers. This is strengthened by a Formation program managed by the Committee in the parish. The scholars are also asked to devote hours of Parish involvement as their way of paying forward. The Program is funded by the SSAP Foundation, Inc. with an approved Annual Budget. For those scholar applicants interviewed and highly recommended by the Committee whose expenses are outside the Budget parameters, individual or collective sponsorships are solicited from parishioners. The Program grants Tuition (partial or full), Food allowances and Transportation Allowances to help ensure that there are less drop-outs, and that the students are able to get to and from school, and have a hot meal during the day. An important and distinctive facet of the SSAP SCHOlarship Ministry is a Spiritual-Moral Values Formation Program. We stress the importance of Prayer and a strong relationship with the Lord, Time Management, Money/Finance Management, Good Conduct, Good Work Ethic, Honesty, Hope and the Reality of a better Tomorrow, Motivation, Hard Work, Perseverance, Goal and Target Setting, Achievement, Responsibility, Accountability, How to live your best life Today!, How to live daily as a good Kristianong Mamamayan. 2 Parish Bulletin HOSPITAL MINISTRY (headed by Ella Tan) The Hospital Ministry gives our Parishioners the opportunity to have an avenue in performing Corporal Acts of Mercy, either by volunteerism and/or donations of all kinds to meet the pressing needs of the terminally ill coming from the marginalized sector of our society being treated at PGH, mainly children, and Our Lady of Persuncola Hospital. The Hospital Ministry s assistance program is both financial as well as focused on the over-all well- being of the patients and their respective families. With the help of your donations, the Hospital Ministry is able to provide badly needed medicines, medical equipment and supplies to indigent patients, mostly young innocent children. Each and every patient we help have been properly screened by our Social Workers and endorsed by the PGH Medical team to have an acceptable chance of recovery and support with the proper medical prescription/s. With the proper implementation of this program, the Hospital Ministry has managed to be instrumental in providing medicinal assistance for the recovery of some 99 patients, with a minimal fatality of only 6 patients, as of the first 5 months of this year. Currently, the Hospital Ministry is in talks with the PGH Medical Team on how we can further increase our support to ensure that the prevailing fatality rate may be further reduced. the ssap social services ministry 2

3 July 10, 2016 HEALTH CARE MINISTRY (headed by Barbie Lu Young) To bring God s love through a collaborative effort characterized by a Christian spirit of service is the main goal and objective of the Health Care Ministry. Moved by the love of Christ, we, the members, strive to work for the health of all parishioners by promoting programs that focus on the mind, body and spirit. We also undertake outreach programs, particularly a weekly hospital visitation at the Rizal Medical Center s pediatrics ward. The most important activity of our group is the weekly visit to the Rizal Medical Center, done every Thursday. As of mid-year, around 200 indigent patients have benefited from medicines, spiritual advise, natural family planning (Billings method) lessons done wholeheartedly by member volunteers. Our next target program is to have a weekly Mothers class that will delve in more detail: the anatomy of the reproductive system, the sanctity of marriage, the importance of family, and the Billings method complete with charts and illustrations. We hope to instill a better understanding in the Patients of the meaning of suffering, a deeper realization of a person s dignity and worth, the importance of faith in the loving God, and to cultivate a deeper relationship with God. the ssap social services ministry Santuario de San Antonio Pastoral Team Fr. 4 Parish Bulletin the ssap social services ministry PRISON MINISTRY (headed by RJ Limpo) If there is one word to describe the Prison Ministry, it would be chances. This is where the ministry draws its energy to execute its programs. From the many instances in the Bible that Jesus gave which showed a countless number of chances for people to change. There s the story of the adulteress, where Jesus asked that he who is without sin to cast the first stone. Jesus is clearly extending a change for change. All he asked from her is to repent and change her ways and in turn she would be saved. Also in the story of the penitent thief who asked Jesus to save him at the last hour during the crucifixion, he too was given a change and was saved. These are just two clear examples of the changes that Jesus extends to us. Jesus tirelessly gives us changes to change. Instead of looking at our sinfulness, He sees the potential greatness in us as we learn from our mistakes. This is what drives the Prison Ministry to fulfill its mission to bring Christ to the inmates. To make them feel that there is a world out there that is giving them a chance at life despite the sins they have committed. All our efforts are guided by the principle of showing the face of Christ through the various activities we have set up for them. We highly encourage all the parishioners to join us in the many enriching activities mapped out through the year! 4

5 July 10, 2016 the ssap social services ministry ECOLOGY (headed by Renato Apacible & Mariza del Rosario) The ECOlogy Ministry s thrust is The Integrity of Creation Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation. Santuario de San Antonio is blessed with expansive grounds! The ECOlogy Ministry is empowered to help manage the care of our parish s environs to maintain the church grounds so that God s Beauty of Creation is accentuated, preserved and promoted. We also seek to raise the consciousness of our parishioners and churchgoers in being more environmentally responsible and good Stewards of God s Creation, as Pope Francis urges us in his Laudato Si Encyclical. More focus has been on maintaining and beautifying the church grounds and also reviving and actively maintaining the Compost Bin in order to reduce and recycle the leaves, which after shredding and decomposition are utilized as much and top soil instead of having to purchase soil. The Ministry supervises ECOlogy gardeners who work in partnership with parish staff who are in charge of watering, trash disposal to keep the gardens beautiful. ST. FRANCIS FRIENDSHIP HOME & SPIRITUAL CENTER (headed by Tina Teehankee) The Friendship Ministry in the Friendship Home Livelihood & Spirituality Center teaches a way of life founded on building right relationships based on gospel values and spiritual truths. It aims to develop faithful, loyal, humble, loving, honest and responsible servants with healthy spiritual life and skillful hands to become good stewards. It is a place where household helps, fathers, mothers, adults, youth, children are given the opportunity to know Jesus more, following the footsteps of St. Francis in fraternal community life that support and give opportunities to one another to grow and earn more than enough to be generous to help others. It is a working proactive center where time, talent and resources are shared, to move from a state of having enough, to having enough applied skills and values and ultimately to have more than enough to share blessings with others to become more purposeful and productive. The Friendship Home Livelihood & Spirituality Center s main value is its accessibility to the surrounding communities and its ability to be a venue for classes/outreach activities. We establish a network of servants and stewards with integrity of heart and skillful hands, quality products, livelihood and job placement opportunities and services, charging a fee in support of the Center to earn more than enough to give to God s missionary work. I want to congratulate the members of our Social Services Ministry Family. They are all doing a great job in promoting the quality of life of individuals especially of the marginalized and the poor of society. Through our ministry we have realized that we are not meant to be long distance observers of life. We are meant to be committed to life and be immersed in shaping it and giving ourselves the change to co-create it by the grace of God! Our strength is our energy and dynamism which we dedicate to God through unselfish service in the Social Service Ministry. To God be the Glory!
