2 ED 101 ASSURANCE OF SALVATION Jesus Christ said, Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with Me. (Rev. 3:20) Coupled with this wonderful truth in the Gospel of John that, to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12). If you have received Jesus Christ, God s Son, as your Savior, according to the scriptures above, you have become a child of God. If you have not accepted God into your life, this lesson will give you the biblical truths as to how you can enter into the family of God, and have Everlasting life. TO ASSURE IS TO PUT BEYOND ALL DOUBT. This lesson on Assurance of Salvation will help introduce some basic promises God has made to Christians. Begin to memorize, meditate on, study and apply 1 John 5: You will become convinced of the reality of this promise. On the basis of this testimony - god s written Word you can know that you have the Lord Jesus, and with Him, eternal life. I. THE TWO DIAGNOSTIC QUESTIONS A. 6 ED 101 THE SOURCE OF EVANGELISM T he Source of Evangelism is its place of origin; the prime cause of; from whence it springs or stems. God, Himself went in search of the first lost man, Adam. (Genesis 3:8, 9). He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to the world to procure salvation through His own death and resurrection. (John 3:16; Romans 10:9). The Holy Spirit is the dynamics or power of evangelism. It must be understood and accepted that is the source of evangelism. I. EVANGELISM DEFINED: A. The Proclaiming of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, 1) That men should come to put their trust in God through Him, 2) accepting Him as Savior, and 3) serve Him as Lord of their personal lives, and 4) in corporate fellowship of the church. 11 ED 101 THE NECESSITY OF EVANGELISM In considering the necessity of evangelism, let us look at the aims of evangelism and its theological basis. We must not allow the word theology to throw us off. It simply means man s study of: 1) The Existence, 2) Nature, and 3)Laws of God. The First Aim of Evangelism: To confront the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To do this effectively, one must have an intellectual grasp of the Gospel. In other words we must have a working knowledge of the Gospel. The Second Aim of Evangelism: To secure a clear and definite decision to accept Jesus as Saviour and to enlist all converts as effective followers disciples of Christ. This aim is achieved only, through effective confrontation. To accomplish the goal of effective confrontation, theology is a necessity. The proper knowledge and understanding of theology contributes to effective evangelism in two ways: A. It helps keep evangelism simple B. It is an agent in conserving results C. It keeps you on track So, we can see that evangelism and theology are complementary of each other and therefore, depend upon each other. The very heart of the Gospel of the New Testament is theological. We must study to show ourselves approved unto God, workmen that need not be ashamed, dividing the true word of God correctly. (II Timothy 2:15) The great doctrines of God are what make up our theology. We must be found correct in such doctrines as the judgment, sin atonement, repentance, faith, justification, Jesus Christ, the resurrection and many others. ED (2013) Page 1

13 ED 101 MAINTAINING AN ATMOSPHERE OF EVANGELISM Just as Jesus had one main mission on this earth to seek and save the lost the church must also have one main mission, evangelism. The work of evangelism is primarily the task of the church. Unattached and unauthorized, evangelism is generally short lived and unwise. All the work of the Christian faith is centered in the local church. When any phase of the Christian work is ungoverned by the church, it may do little good and great harm. Evangelism is an imperative for the local church. The church which ceases to evangelize neglects one of its primary reasons for existing and begins the process of decline. I.
