Advent 2017

During the Season of Advent we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of the Christ. We celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas, and we remember that in him the Kingdom of God came to earth. Now we wait expectantly for his return, not as the baby that was once worshipped in the manger, but as our Savior that will come again and restore all things unto himself. As Christmas approaches the craziness of our lives traditionally increase as gift buying and parties are added to our daily routines, but not everyone has the comforts that many of us enjoy without giving them a second thought. It is for this reason that we call our devotional, Silver and Gold Have We None. Those whom we serve have not the material possessions that our society prizes, but they have the wonderful gifts of hope and promise. And we, those who find ourselves on the streets this holiday seasons, in the shelters, and securely housed, would like to share of ourselves with you this season. May you find this devotional useful for increasing and deepening faith as you reflect on the Living Word, and on our humble insights. Peace be with you this Advent season and throughout the coming year. Come Lord Jesus. Amen. Pr. Kristy Daniels

Dec. 3 1 st Sunday in Advent/Primer Domingo en Adviento Mark 13: "But in those days, after that suffering, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 Then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in clouds' with great power and glory. 27 Then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. 28 "From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 32 "But about that day or hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Beware, keep alert; for you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his slaves in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. 35 Therefore, keep awake for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or at dawn, 36 or else he may find you asleep when he comes suddenly. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Keep awake." While this group of versus has something of a dark opening, I think it the main message is one of hope, as well as diligence, and a reminder to be faithful. We are reminded to keep awake, and of the promise of Christ s return. I found the first verse, which mentioned after the suffering, one that gives a lot of hope. It reminds us that while we are here, now, on the earth, that we will suffer, that life will have problems. Just because we are Christians, life will not be perfect, we will still get colds, things we do not like will happen, but there is the hope of Christ s return. Much like Christ suffered for us on the Cross, we have to suffer, though not to the extent that He did. The last few verses remind us that there is hope that Christ will come again, that our suffering will end. Certainly it is a reminder that we should keep the faith. The Advent Season is another great reminder to us of the hope of things to come. During Advent, we prepare for the birth of Christ, and the message he brought to us of hope, faith, and love, that indeed our suffering would end. -Geoff Goucher

Monday, December 4/Lunes, 4 de Deciembre 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 1Co 1:3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus, 5 for in every way you have been enriched in him, in speech and knowledge of every kind 6 just as the testimony of Christ has been strengthened among you 7 so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ. 8 He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you may be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful; by him you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Paul tells us that Jesus will give us many spiritual gifts: Love, grace, kindness, strength, faith and eternal life. Free and open access to God. Paul shares that each of us has been dedicated and consecrated to Gob by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We belong to God and to the service of God. Jesus will never give up on us and God will never abandon us. -DeMar Sather

Tuesday, December 5/Martes, 5 de Deciembre Psalm 80:1-7, Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth 2 before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh. Stir up your might, and come to save us! 3 Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved. 4 O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people's prayers? 5 You have fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in full measure. 6 You make us the scorn of our neighbors; our enemies laugh among themselves. 7 Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved. Ps 80:17 But let your hand be upon the one at your right hand, the one whom you made strong for yourself. 18 Then we will never turn back from you; give us life, and we will call on your name. 19 Restore us, O LORD God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved. In layman terms it s a prayer for the deliverance from national enemies. A communal lament on the fall of the yes northern kingdom. God is a face brightened with a smile expressing God s benevolence. The revelation been reveal to me is that as of now and always is that God has purposes for all of our greater goods in all circumstances yes we can trust the Wisdom of our faithful and loving God. The point is even though we have faced and are faced with difficult circumstances we too as of now have only to place our faith and trust in God. He is willing and able in each and ok everything and anything we face. It also shows that we does not have in mind the concerns of our God, but just merely humans concerns. Amen. -Danny Ray Lee

Wednesday, December 6/Miercoles, 6 de Deciembre Isaiah 64:1-9 O that you would tear open the heavens and come down, so that the mountains would quake at your presence 2 " as when fire kindles brushwood and the fire causes water to boil to make your name known to your adversaries, so that the nations might tremble at your presence! 3 When you did awesome deeds that we did not expect, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence. 4 From ages past no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who works for those who wait for him. 5 You meet those who gladly do right, those who remember you in your ways. But you were angry, and we sinned; because you hid yourself we transgressed. 6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy cloth. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. 7 There is no one who calls on your name, or attempts to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have delivered us into the hand of our iniquity. 8 Yet, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. 9 Do not be exceedingly angry, O LORD, and do not remember iniquity forever. Now consider, we are all your people. If only You would rip open the heavens and come down to earth Its heights and depths would quake the moment you appear. Like kindling when it just begins to catch fire, or like water that s about to boil. If only you would come like that so that all who deny You or hate You would know who You are and be terrified of your grandeur. -Von Rodriguez

Thursday, December 7/Jueves, 7 de Diciembre 2 Peter 3:8-15a 8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. 9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed. 11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire? 13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home. 14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish; 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. God does not exist in time This universe will end and a new one created Those who are of god will live in that heavenly universe. Don't wait around for that to happen, live according to Jesus's laws - love god and love thy neighbor as yourselfat your best. Not perfect but your best Then in gods eyes you are begotten of the lord as Jesus is. -Harvey

Friday, December 8/Viernes, 8 de Diciembre Psalm 85:1-2, Lord, you were favorable to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. 2 You forgave the iniquity of your people; you pardoned all their sin. Selah 8 Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts. 9 Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. 10 Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other. 11 Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky. 12 The Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. 13 Righteousness will go before him, and will make a path for his steps. I detected a Jewish theme. He says the iniquities of my people, his chosen people were the Jews. I also think it said that other people are forgiven besides the Jews. My life has been awful but I have experienced favor in, with, and through My grandchildren. I have three, two boys and a girl. I want them to grow up in a smarter world in regards to how we treat each other and care of creation. I pray for their safety and for all my brothers and sisters. I want steadfast love, faithfulness, righteousness, and goodness. -David Small

Saturday, December 9/Sabado, 9 de Diciembre Isaiah 40:1-11 Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid, that she has received from the Lord s hand double for all her sins. 3 A voice cries out: In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. 5 Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. 6 A voice says, Cry out! And I said, What shall I cry? All people are grass, their constancy is like the flower of the field. 7 The grass withers, the flower fades, when the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever. 9 Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings, lift it up, do not fear; say to the cities of Judah, Here is your God! 10 See, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep. Admittadly, I have never read this chapter before. It is a good one. I really like the progression of it. It speaks of speaking to Jerusalem tenderly. And its ok because her penalty is paid from God. So basically give up your sins, and God will take care of it. That the earth will be ready for his return and that we need to be ready for his return as well. How just like grass and flowers die, our bodies die as well, but with faith in the lord our souls will live forever. Just like the word of God. -Braedon Sherman

December 10 2 nd Sunday in Advent/2 Domingo en Adviento Mark 1:1-8 Mk 1:1 The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, "See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; 3 the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,'" 4 John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 He proclaimed, "The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. 8 I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." John the Baptist announces a new baptism, superior to his own: the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The baptism that John announces is an integral conversion that is possible thanks to the inspiration that the Holy Spirit awakens in our being. Baptism is the sacrament that should manifest our firm determination to live "immersed" in the invitation of Christ to live His Divine command: Loving God with all our Heart, soul and mind and our neighbor as ourselves. May God allow us to live according to His will not only this time of Advent but always!to God be given all glory!

-Esaú Cuevas Monday, December 11/Lunes, 11 de Diciembre Isaiah 52: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." 8 Listen! Your sentinels lift up their voices, together they sing for joy; for in plain sight they see the return of the Lord to Zion. 9 Break forth together into singing, you ruins of Jerusalem; for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. 10 The Lord has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. So I wanna say that for people that have been through trials the news of victory and peace and liberation and also that hearing the voice that your God rules or our God rules we are instantly given protection and serenity in that faith. I know for myself that to hear the verse that says, erupt in joyful song just thinking of that when I sing songs they bring joy I know what that feels like. My head is pounding and my heart is full of the songs that praise God that is a natural high, that is the real stuff. -Billy Levins

Tuesday, December 12/Martes, 12 de Diciembre Isaiah 62:6-12 Upon your walls, O Jerusalem, I have posted sentinels; all day and all night they shall never be silent. You who remind the Lord, take no rest, 7 and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it renowned throughout the earth. 8 The Lord has sworn by his right hand and by his mighty arm: I will not again give your grain to be food for your enemies, and foreigners shall not drink the wine for which you have labored; 9 but those who garner it shall eat it and praise the Lord, and those who gather it shall drink it in my holy courts. 10 Go through, go through the gates, prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway, clear it of stones, lift up an ensign over the peoples. 11 The Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to daughter Zion, See, your salvation comes; his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 12 They shall be called, The Holy People,The Redeemed of the Lord ; and you shall be called, Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken. Though the land shakes and trembles, I shall stand firm, for I have this promise: my Savior comes, and my reward is with Him Though heavy rain and strong wind batter the cities, I will not be moved, for I have this promise: my Savior comes, and my reward is with Him Though madmen threaten with fearful weapons, and there are wars and rumors of wars, and the waters of chaos seem ready to swamp the earth, I will not fear, for I have this promise: my Savior comes, and my reward is with Him. -Mark Mummy

Wednesday, December 13/Miércoles, 13 de Diciembre 1 Thessalonians 5: Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise the words of prophets, 21 but test everything; hold fast to what is good; 22 abstain from every form of evil. 23 May the God of peace himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do this. If ever there was a timely moment to read and reflect on scripture, it would be now. With all the strife, tension, mistrust, and uncertainty that has enveloped the country socially and the horrifying situation in Texas and Louisiana due to the hurricane that struck, seeking refuge and guidance from The Good Book should be a mandatory part of everyone's day. Certain sections spoke to me very powerfully, especially "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances..." Despite the way we may find ourselves as an unfortunate victim of time, place, or circumstance, we must never lose sight of the mission God The Father and His Risen Son have placed before us to follow the example and the path that was opened for us that leads to eternal salvation. "...hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil." The temptations we face every day that might lead us away from adhering to our values serves as a reminder to keep our eyes and our lives focused on the second coming. Whether or not we are destined to be still alive to witness it is not relevant, living as if it could occur in the next hour is our mission. "May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." We are responsible for making sure our spirit and actions reflect the beliefs we have been taught to live our lives with so with the return of the Risen Saviour of humanity our place in heaven is not sacrificed for the temporary pleasures and distractions that are offered by our world. Amen! -David Schexnayder

Thursday, December 14/Jueves, 14 de Diciembre Psalm When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. 2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them." 3 The Lord has done great things for us, and we rejoiced. 4 Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses in the Negeb. 5 May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy. 6 Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves. This chapter is when God changed Zion's circumstances for the better. The bible say, "we were like them that dream. This is really interesting because when God restored our lives is like a dream good to be true. He call us to come home to teach us how to live the dream. God was wonderful to us we are one happy people, and laughing and arm load of blessing. -Enrique Urizar

Friday, December 15/Viernes, 15 de Diciembre Luke 1:46b-55 My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. 52 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever. Even though Mary knew she would be viewed by others as a n outcast, she look past this fact and had great trust and trust and faith in the Lord Jesus and the wonderful thig that were to come, rejoiced because God chose her to be the Mother of our King. -Larry Lee

Saturday, December 16/Sabado, 16 de Diciembre Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11 Isa 61:1 The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, to display his glory. 4 They shall build up the ancient ruins, they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations. Isa 61:8 For I the LORD love justice, I hate robbery and wrongdoing; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 Their descendants shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge that they are a people whom the LORD has blessed. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations. Isaiah was appointed by God to bring comfort and hope to the Hebrew nation returning home after years of disbursement and exile. They were returning to a homeland surrounded by enemies, ruined by years of war, occupation and neglect. They were discouraged that their temple had been destroyed and Jerusalem was in ruins. They were leaving exile to return to desolation. Isaiah's message is one of hope and restoration, a new covenant with a loving God. A resurrection of a nation if you will. Generations later Jesus quotes this passage saying that He is the fulfillment of this prophesy. All nations will see that those who are faithful and seek justice are children of God. -Maggie Smith

December 17 3 rd Sunday in Advent/3 Domingo en Adviento John 1:6-8, There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. 19 This is the testimony given by John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" 20 He confessed and did not deny it, but confessed, "I am not the Messiah." 21 And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" He answered, "No." 22 Then they said to him, "Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" 23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,'" as the prophet Isaiah said. 24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. 25 They asked him, "Why then are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" 26 John answered them, "I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, 27 the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal." 28 This took place in Bethany across the Jordan where John was baptizing. In my past life when I wasn t always doing what I should I didn t see the light and truth but I see it now. I m in AA that is a good thing. I don t do the things I used to. I have peace of mind and happiness. I have a good apartment. I was on the Street, now I have a good apartment and I m happy. The truth for me is don t drink and it keeps me in line and from doing bad things. I m happy about being part of the church community. From the community I get piece of mind, I feel supported, that I have friends. I do a lot for the church basically because it is a church and I feel I need to do that because God did a lot for me so I m going to do a lot for God. I think He is an alien. No one disappears like that and reappears. I believe Jesus is an alien. -Ken Nelson

December 18/Lunes, 18 de Diciembre Isaiah 9:2-7 1 Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. 3 He is the reflection of God's glory and the exact imprint of God's very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"? 6 And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him." 7 Of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, and his servants flames of fire." 8 But of the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of your kingdom. 9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions." 10 And, "In the beginning, Lord, you founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands; 11 they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like clothing; 12 like a cloak you will roll them up, and like clothing they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will never end." Isaiah 9:2-7 is pivotal to our doctrinal beliefs that we, as Christians hold true. This wonderful scripture is a direct prophecy of the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. It shows that He would be born of a woman and that this lovely child would bring great joy to them in the darkness and degradation of this world. It signifies that He would be given showing us all that He is indeed, a gift from God to us. This child s name is Mighty God and Everlasting Father displaying the fact that Jesus Christ is equal with God, should be worshipped as God because He is God. Thanks be to God for His unspeakable Gift. -Jerry Welch

Tuesday, December 19/Martes, 19 de Diciembre John 1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4 in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. 9 The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. 12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth. Here, John exhorts us to "know Him". So - how do we know Him? Well, notice that he tells us to "walk in the Light". He does not say, 'walk "with" the Light, as if to merely follow it. We must, by obeying His commands, walk IN it, fully immersed by it. Yet, being the fallible creatures we are, He has given us His Only Begotten Son, fully human, fully God. Christ our advocate to the Father, turns us, repenting and being purified from all sin. John tells us we are to love our brothers, and to shed all hatred, yet not denying our sinful nature. My walk with the Father and Christ has been a hard and tasking one these past 10 years, suffering through many losses. But not once, not even in my bleakest hour, have I accused or forsaken Him. His perfect faithfulness to me always lifts me up in His perfect time. The summation of John's message to us is expressed crystal clear in Luke 10:27. -Christopher Hoyt

Wednesday, December 20/Miercoles, 20 de Diciembre Isaiah 61:10-62:3 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my whole being shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations. 1 For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. 2 The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. 3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. Isaiah 61:10 refers to the robe and the turban which are part of the priest s wardrobe. Commonly referred to as sacerdotal. (Sacerdotal related to priests or priesthood). The Messiah brings salvation; he does not receive it. This rejoicing is emphatically expressed through the infinitive absolute and the finite verb, Rejoicing I will rejoice. My soul points out the inwardness of the joy. The source of the rejoicing is the Lord and My God; and these words express the heartfelt devotion of the covenant-conscious person, who realizes what the great God of the covenant has done for him in clothing Him in the garments of salvation. Salvation is righteousness, in the salvation of man the righteousness of God is revealed: Salvation is state of being right with God. Beauty means beautiful crown, and the royal diadem means royal turban. Those seen on priests today. These designations are intended to set forth the greatest beauty on earth, and so the Church is displayed as the masterwork of the Lord, place in the hand of the Lord that all the world may behold in wonder and amazement of the work of God! -Dean McBee

Thursday, December 21/Jueves, 21 de Diciembre Romans 16:25-27 (The Message) All of our praise rises to the One who is strong enough to make you strong, exactly as preached in Jesus Christ, precisely as revealed in the mystery kept secret for so long but now an open book through the prophetic Scriptures. All the nations of the world can now know the truth and be brought into obedient belief, carrying out the orders of God, who got all this started, down to the very last letter. 27 All our praise is focused through Jesus on this incomparably wise God! Yes! Glory, Glory Hallelujah. I trust in God and read and healing his words in daily. I pray to God daily believe, my daily hope, and love. I believe we are not living as just food and daily bread But also God s words thru Pastor who speaks messages within Bible. I tried to continue study Bible and messages to read and understand. Amen! -S.J.P. (Sung June Pak speaks Korean as his first language, English as his 3 rd or 4 th.)

Friday, December 22 /Viernes, 22 de Diciembre Psalm 89:1-4, I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. 2 I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. 3 You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: 4 'I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.'" Selah 19 Then you spoke in a vision to your faithful one, and said: "I have set the crown on one who is mighty, I have exalted one chosen from the people. 20 I have found my servant David; with my holy oil I have anointed him; 21 my hand shall always remain with him; my arm also shall strengthen him. 22 The enemy shall not outwit him, the wicked shall not humble him. 23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him. 24 My faithfulness and steadfast love shall be with him; and in my name his horn shall be exalted. 25 I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. 26 He shall cry to me, 'You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation!' David is spoken of as the chosen one and his descendents, including Jesus, will be blessed for generations to come, because God is forever faithful and loving. The Psalm continues giving specific examples of how future generations will continue to be blessed to extend beyond the oceans with the power blessed to extend beyond the oceans with the power to control rivers. This psalm is spoken as if it were God himself talking. And his chosen warrior will cry out to God. You are my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. Such a strong statements parallels David alongside Jesus, also from the house of Benjamin. And it was this heritage that was so important to the Jewish people that they sought their savior as a fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. -James Denman

Saturday, December 23/Sábado, 23 de Diciembre 2 Samuel 7:1-11, 16 1 Now when the king was settled in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, 2 the king said to the prophet Nathan, "See now, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of God stays in a tent." 3 Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that you have in mind; for the Lord is with you." 4 But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan: 5 Go and tell my servant David: Thus says the Lord: Are you the one to build me a house to live in? 6 I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent and a tabernacle. 7 Wherever I have moved about among all the people of Israel, did I ever speak a word with any of the tribal leaders of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?" 8 Now therefore thus you shall say to my servant David: Thus says the Lord of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep to be prince over my people Israel; 9 and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. 10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may live in their own place, and be disturbed no more; and evildoers shall afflict them no more, as formerly, 11 from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house. 16 Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me; your throne shall be established forever. David thought that since he was living in a house God should have a house! God told Nathan I have not asked for a house and I m happy with the tent until my people have a place of their own. So don t get a swelled head because I took you form the sheep and made you ruler of my people! When I need a house I ll let you know. 1 st Zila con s David to get what he wants. Not a good thought then Shimei cursed at David and Abishai wanted to cut off his head. David said if God told him to curse me let him be. Maybe some of my misery we be taken away I know how he feels. Anithophel was a spy for David and Absalom being you and dumb did what anithople said. But sleeping with his concubines was a big no no but he thougt Davids enemys would side with him and he had the nerve to do it own the roof no one in the city went to sleep that night. -James Fuller

December 24 4 th Sunday in Advent/24 Domingo en Adviento Lucas/Luke 1: In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin s name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you. 29 But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. 30 The angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. 34 Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I am a virgin? 35 The angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. 36 And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God. 38 Then Mary said, Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word. Then the angel departed from her. When we first start to come into contact with what God's Will is for us we may be confused or unable to see the right path. The point is to have faith like Mary had faith. It was by her faith that Christ came into the world, and it is through that act that the world is set free of destruction. It is good to keep in mind the great acts that faith can achieve, and to always trust in God's Will. -Charles

Monday, December 25/Lunes, 25 de Diciembre Luke 2: In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 All went to their own towns to be registered. 4 Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. 5 He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for see I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: 11 to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors! 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us. 16 So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. 17 When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child; 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. To Children of God To Children of God Christmas is a time of love and joy, winter lights and singing carols, having fun in the winter snow, thankful for God of hope, many reflected his trust in God s love and inner peace from Jesus gift of salvation. -Willie Heard
