(ESV) Proud Members of HOS REFLECTIONS On March 23, 2016 the Search Team of Rod Ames, Luke Cochran, Aimie Garland, Norma Gregory, Dave Laforce, John Lippmann, and Glenn Saaman met for the first time to begin the process of seeking our new Head of School. Meeting about twice each month they sifted through resumes, spoke with prospective candidates, and prayed for wisdom through it all. We owe them a round of applause for sticking with the ups and downs of the search process; it is never easy. Just as you think you have the right person, you find they have headed elsewhere. Doors closed, but this group of dedicated servants remained convinced that God was already preparing the heart of the right person for leading the school. All along we were reminded this is God s school, and He was already preparing the way. We now have word that Dr. Vincent Montoro has accepted our call to become the next Head of School. During his visit to UCA a few months ago he met with faculty, Board, and many others, including the Pastor Advisory Council. All were impressed with his thoughtfulness, his faith, and his ability to respond to so many. His credentials include speaking, writing, and a variety of other leadership activities in the Christian equation. His broad openness to Protestants and Catholics was an appeal, as this is the fabric of UCA. The evaluation shared by the pastors to the Board speaks to why we believe Dr. Montoro is God s servant for the role of Head of School. The Pastoral Advisory Council overall approves Dr. Montoro specifically regarding his broad theological interests. Given that this is an academic institution, he is more than qualified to lead us We are a Christian academic institution, and even though Dr. Montoro s theological interests are broad, they fall well within the bounds of what is generally considered to be historic orthodox Christianity Finally, given our own theologically diverse culture as a school, [his broad theological diversity] could actually be seen as a positive attribute in fostering unity and helping everyone in the school feel like they have a seat at the table. Of course, while the Board has issued the call, pastors have agreed, and Dr. Montoro has indicated he is coming, there are still details to be worked out regarding a contract. But as discussions have been extensive it is unlikely that this decision will change. The summer will be a time of transition, but most importantly I believe God is leading the school forward to the next era of ministry. We expect Dr. Montoro to be coming mid- July, giving time for both of us to work out a smooth transition. My role will be as much or as little as he requests. My goal is to serve the Lord by paving the way, and passing the baton when he believes it is best to do so. The Leadership Team will be making plans to welcome Dr. Montoro during the beginning of school. It will be an opportunity to meet him, hear his hopes for the coming year, and celebrate God s provision of a new leader for UCA. We will also have a chance to meet the new staff that God is sending; another amazing way in which God opened doors to take over for the Gandys and others almost before they announced they were heading elsewhere. Stay tuned for more information, and a specific date for the events to welcome the Head of School, likely just before or immediately after Labor Day. Throughout the summer you will also be hearing from me periodically as we see God open doors for financial provision that we still need through the end of July. Again, thank you Search Team, for your dedication and persistent prayerful effort for God s guidance in the search. Thank you for a Board of Directors who give tirelessly to see that UCA continues towards a more solid footing. Thank you to our faculty and staff for always going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure our students reach their full God-given potential. These years have been a privilege and a blessing. Praise God! Barton Fair Food Booth in August Sodas are needed for the Barton fair food booth. Mountain Dew and Iced Tea especially. Volunteers are also needed. There is a sign-up sheet on the PPM board. This is a big fundraiser for the PPM, which sponsors many school activities, such as the Jay Peak ski program, Four Winds, and playground equipment. ButterBraids! Thank you for your support of the ButterBraids fundraiser for the Missions Trip. We sold a total of 147 items with three Cinnamon pastries still for sale. Each is $ Please see Mrs. Strepka if you would like to buy one. Jun 9 BOOK FEES DUE The book fee ($300 per student) is due no later than the last day of school. If tuition is not up to date, report cards WILL NOT be issued. Please get payments in as soon as possible and/or contact me with any challenges. Thank you! -- Mrs. Kelly Summer Hours Begin The Administration office will be open on Tuesday - Thursday from 9:00am - 12:00pm following the close of school tomorrow. Additional times may be scheduled if needed. We wish you all a blessed summer! Community Service All Upper School students are required to do 20 hours of community service per year to earn a credit. It is a graduation requirement as well. The total hours are recorded on the child s report card and then carried over to their transcript. Please help to ensure that your child fulfills this requirement. Forms may be picked up to have on hand for students who need to finish this year, or want to get a start on next year's hours. Varsity Soccer Soccer reminder - we've already started scheduling games for the fall so please use the sign up on the sports bulletin board if you plan to play. It's also a good time to think about the necessary paperwork due at the start of the season - releases, medical check forms and UCA Athletics agreement. Please contact me with any questions.
