1 WANTAGH UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT Department of Social Studies Wantagh High School 3297 Beltagh Avenue Wantagh, NY (516) John McNamara Superintendent of Schools Christopher J. Widmann Supervisor July 1, 2017 AP European History Summer Assignment Dear Wantagh Advanced Placement European History Student: Congratulations! You have been recommended and selected to take part in this year s Advanced Placement European History challenge. This is quite an honor for you as this is a very prestigious course as well as a very rigorous program that requires a great deal of dedication, time, responsibility, and self-motivation. Ms. Jones European History class is an accelerated and demanding introduction to European History and culture from 1450-present. Because this class is similar to a college freshmen-level course, students should expect, for example, that the reading and writing load will be heavier than most high school history classes. With that in mind, it requires seriously committed students who are willing to work far above the level required in a regular high school history class. With that in mind, there is a mandatory summer assignment for this course. The assignment requires you to use the school issued textbook to complete. To that end I have prepared a summer assignment that will ensure that you are adequately prepared for the rigors of this course from day one. It is your responsibility to work on this assignment over the summer and come to school in September 2016 with the assignment 100% completed. Failure to do so may result in you being dropped from the class, more than likely it will result in an extremely low grade on the first quiz and exam. You have the requirements and the assignment; go to it, and DON'T GET BEHIND! YOU WILL BE TESTED THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL. The AP European History Exam that you will be taking in early May of 2017 is a three hour exam that costs $92.00 and will determine if you get college credit. A good grade on the exam is worth 6 college credits! Feel free to me at anytime over the summer if you have any questions or concerns regarding the assignment. Sincerely, Ms. H. Jones Ms. H. Jones Jonesh@wantaghschools.org
