2 Funding the Future... Fulfilling the Past T his is the slogan for the 2018 Stewardship Drive. We are kicking off the Stewardship Drive this week. Due to various reasons, the stewardship of treasure for this year was delayed and did not start until after we started the year. However, we would like to get a head start for next year The financial budget is being prepared for the coming year, and this Stewardship Drive will help us to plan and allocate the finances needed for various ministries. You have been very generous with the material resources for which God has blessed you. Your response to the last stewardship of treasure drive Renew, Restore and Rejoice was very encouraging. We were able to do what we planned and more because of your generosity. However, we still have a way to go. Out of 1,672 households, 902 support St. Francis Parish financially (for which we have records.) If you are not one of those 902 households, please consider supporting the parish financially in gratitude for all that God has blessed you with. The Funding the Future... Fulfilling the Past Campaign this year has a two-way approach to our financial needs. The first is to fund the operating expenses of 2018, and the second is to ask your generosity toward debt retirement. At this time, we ask you to keep your support to the operating expenses next year the same as you ve been tithing this year. Over and above your support for the operating expenses, I appeal to your generosity to make a pledge for the next five years toward debt retirement. If 500 households out of 1,672 contribute $1,000 per year toward the debt retirement over and above their regular tithing, we will be debt-free in five years. Having been here for more than a year, I believe there are at least 500 households who are able to make this sacrifice. I know that it is a huge sacrifice for some. But nothing happens and nothing can be achieved without sacrifices. While all may not be able to give $1,000 a year, there are others who may be able to give more. Every sacrifice counts however small that may be. I will be making this sacrifice myself. There are things that I will need to go without in my personal budget to make this happen. However, I am happy to do it, knowing that our efforts will help us to get to where we need to be as a St. Francis Catholic Community. In the coming weeks, you will hear more about it and receive a package in the mail. Please take some time to pray to see how God wants you to share His blessings. Kindly say the Stewardship Prayer every day at home. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have; God is pleased by sacrifices of that kind Hebrew 13:16. Father Jose

5 ST. FRANCIS PARISH LIFE 5th Sunday Rosary Halloween Party There will be a Rosary before all Masses next weekend, October 28th/29th, for the 5th Sunday of October, which is Respect for Life Month. We will be praying for the Blessed Virgin Mary to intercede for the protection of our brothers and sisters in the womb. Please join us one-half hour before Mass to bring our Month of Life to a close. Stewardship 2018 Come to hear Fr. Jose s vision his hopes and dreams for St. Francis Parish, and how our financial support can help make it a reality during his homily on Saturday, October 28th, at the 5 p.m. Mass and on Sunday, October 29th, at the 7:30 and 10 a.m. Masses at the 27th St. Church. Fr. Jose will be announcing specific locations for a financial presentation that will be held after those Masses at the 27th St. Church. Christmas Faire/After Faire Please join us at the next Planning Meeting on Monday, October 30th, at 6:30 p.m., in Seminar Room #1. Can you believe it? Only four more weeks until the Christmas Faire on Saturday, November 18th, and the After Faire on Sunday, November 19th! All proceeds go to our New Church mortgage. Here s how you can help: 1) Bring your new or like-new items to the Office until Tuesday, November 14th; i.e., household items, tools, $1 items for the Kids store please no clothing, used puzzles, books, or wall pictures unless you re the artist. 2) Volunteer to help 2 or more hours before or during the event, or make a donation to help with expenses. 3) Purchase $1 raffle tickets after Masses, October 28/29, November 4/5 and 11/12. All Saints Day and All Souls Day The FEAST OF ALL SAINTS will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 1st. It is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses at the Historic Church will be at 7 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Masses at the New Church will be at 8:15 a.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. (Spanish). Come and celebrate the victory of all the saints in heaven and our hope to share in that same victory! ALL SOULS DAY is Thursday, November 2nd. Masses will be celebrated at the Historic Church at 7 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Bring a picture of a loved one whom you would like to remember, and place it on the table at the front of the church. Fr. Jose will also be holding a Blessing Ceremony at the following cemetery locations and times: Greenwood/Pilot Butte at 1:30 p.m. Meet at the Fr. Luke Sheehan Celtic Cross. The Deschutes Memorial Gardens at 5:30 p.m. Meet by the large crucifix in the Catholic section at the south end of the cemetery, near the back entrance. Alzheimer s Presentation Please join our Health Ministry Team on Saturday, November 4th, from 3 4:30 p.m., in the 27th St. Church Community Center. We welcome Kristina Callahan, former Central Oregon Regional Coordinator for the Alzheimer s Association, who will present on general Alzheimer s information, and Corey Driscoll, Elder Law Attorney, who will discuss financial and legal matters giving direction on how to put your plans in place before complex issues arise. Your memory often changes as you grow older, but memory loss that disrupts daily life is not a typical part of aging. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. 5

Thank You! 3rd & 4th Grades Go to Crater Lake Here's a picture of the third- and fourth-graders on the rim of Crater Lake! We had an amazing time learning about decomposition, succession, compass reading, orienteering, and using watercolors to paint Crater Lake. We are so blessed to have a beautiful National Park so close to home! Thank you to all who attended BINGO! It was a huge success and everyone had a fantastic time! 7 ST. FRANCIS PARISH LIFE Month of Holy Souls Special Plenary Indulgence The month of November will be here soon. It is the month in which we remember, in a special way, our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest. We can assist our deceased loved ones with our prayers especially by offering the Holy Mass during this month of Holy Souls. If you would like to offer Masses for your deceased loved ones, use the flyer located at the back of both churches, and either mail it, drop it off at the Parish Office, or place it in the offertory basket. Masses for these intentions will be said by the priests in India who belong to Fr. Jose s Religious Order, the Salesians of Don Bosco. What you offer by way of a stipend will go to support the education of the seminarians whose formation and training he was responsible for before he came to the United States. They would greatly appreciate your help. Checks should be made out to St. Francis Church with Holy Souls written on the memo line. Welcome Newcomers to Our Parish We would like to welcome newcomers by matching each of them with a host someone who is there to help acclimate them and make them feel welcome to our parish. We encourage each of you to consider being a host for a newcomer, whether you are a couple, a family, or an individual. The time commitment is flexible and minimal, and there is no qualification other than being willing to say hello to someone new. Please host-a-newcomer@stfrancisbend.org to get involved. Stewardship of Giving The current mortgage balance is: $2,605,302. Catholics may obtain a plenary indulgence this year, which marks the 100th Anniversary of the Fatima apparitions under the usual conditions until November 26th. One way to obtain this indulgence is to visit a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church and devoutly participate in a celebration or prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary. You must also pray The Our Father, recite The Apostles Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima. Sacrament Preparation Faith Formation Classes have started! Contact Janet at the Faith Formation Office at (541) , ext. 115, to get registered. Children receive 1st Confession and 1st Communion as early as 2nd Grade if they have attended Faith Formation classes the year before. Youth receive Confirmation as early as 6th Grade if they have attended Faith Formation classes the year before. Attendance of 80% is very important for those who are preparing to receive sacraments either this year or next year.
